Showtime's Dexter: Discussion Thread

Disclaimer: this is NOT about Dexter's Laboratory. As much as I loved that show, this one is so much better (and so much less E-rated), because it's about a serial killer.

Disclaimer: Spoilers ahoy! Be prepared for the television series or even the books to be discussed in FULL on this thread...If it survives.

Disclaimer: as with my South Park topic, stay E-rated, and don't link to sites that aren't E-rated.

Uhhh, so anyways...To all the fans of this great show who caught the season finale: what did you think?

"Dexter" is about a serial killer (of the same name) who kills other serial killers. However, he isn't a vigilante; merely, he's a sociopath who has had his violent urges kept in check by a code laid down by his foster father, Harry.

Both the show and the book heavily rely on Dexter's narration to give us an idea as to what kind of a person he is.

We'll I look at it like even though Dexter kills people he's a Hero in alot of ways. How can you be a hero if you kill people you ask? By killing only killers he is saving lives from those killers killing more people later on. In my oppinion hes a hero more then a pyschopath, and killer. The last episode was a good way to end the series. Ive loved the 1st and 2nd season and im looking forward to the 3rd. After the 2nd season I thought that the series would be over. Because in the books there was only 2 aka 2 series. But thats what my buddy told me and I could be wrong. Dexter is an amazing show and its one of my favorite series since entourage, sopranos, or the brotherhood.

There have been three books so far: Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, and Dexter in the Dark.

I guess socially he could be considered a hero, but from his personal psychopathic standpoint, he's neither. That's actually what he struggles with through most of the second season..."I am evil? I am good? I'm done asking those questions." [/end season]

In the world of cable dramas, I see there being two mainstream "standards": the Soprano-esque shows, or the Six Feet Under shows. This is much like Six Feet Under, but also quite unlike anything else on TV.

Nah...That was believable, seeing as how part of his own vigilante work against Dexter was due to their rivalry/shared demons. What I found "less" believable was how Doakes hotheadedly dismantled his cell phone. :/
