Where are the biggest concentrations of Players?

Guys,

I'd like to know where abouts the big concentrations of players are.

I know some States, TX, Cali, FL, Washington, Maryland, PA, have big player bases, but where are the big cities? Are players from Austin or Dallas? North or South Cali? Philly or Pittsburgh? etc etc. Which Cities have 100+ players, which States break 200? Who has the biggest leagues in the country?

I'll be looking at the threads for Cities attendance etc but I'd like input from players/PTOs too.

I would say we have the SoCal group (NorCal too), always hitting top number

Houston TX Can't ignore that juggernaut

Chicago area/Rockford has a really nice base The regionals last year proved that.

Florida

St. Louis area has a very nice base. Not just stating that because I am biased, we were definitely one of the top locations for States last year.

Oregon.

Washington State

Virginia

I will have to look back at the States Number to see where everyone stood.

This year's States number will be more accurate, at least for the eastern states. The last few years, it was fairly easy to get to 3-4 states and more than 1 regional. With restrictions on dates, this years numbers will show better the concentrations. Many States had bleed over (travelers) from other states, maybe not as many this year.

I'd say that Vince hit most of the hot spots though.

Houston has Great Numbers and Team Cook has worked hard on that, but DFW I think pulls more as you would need to combine all the Numbers from the Metroplex!

Vince hit the heavy ones for sure and Keith is right as you won't get as many travelers do to the Dual Date situation... however this will be State Numbers and not City Numbers which is what I think your trying to get!

Vince hit pretty much everywhere I was about to list. Chicago/Rockford/Milwaukee, Houston, SoCal, NoCal, Florida, Middle Tennessee (from what I've heard, at least), St Louis, Oregon, and the entire NorthEast.

As for the future, Chicago is probably going to come into its own catagory over the next 2 years as one of the top (and most popular) players (Jimmy B) has become a TO. His first big tournament, Cities, drew 60-something people, and bumped the City in Niles (about 45 mins away) to 76. I can see Jimmy getting triple digits for Cities by next year, as he's grown his own player base very well in little more than 2 months, going from no players at all to a steady 15. I wouldn't be surprised to see Chicago drawing Houston levels in the next 2 years, just based on Jimmy's contributions.
 
The New England area, where I reside, has quite a few folks. At Premier Events, we regularly see folks from MA, ME, NH, RI, CT, NY, and NJ. (Curiously, no VT)

Battle Roads in the 50-60s and CCs in the 50-90s.

FWIW, States and Regionals are going to be huge events.
 
You guys are forgetting Ohio, there's a large amount of players in the NE, and another large group around the Columbus area. The last CC In NE Ohio had 77 players in attendance. The most impressive part of that number was that the Junoirs outnumbered the masters for the first time that I can remember.

These are just the ones over 50, and tournament results do not factor in other potential conflicts, but as far as concentrated area, it looks to be the New England States, with a good showing in Florida.

Oh, and as far as PA is concerned, the concentration is in the Philly side of PA. Pittsburgh is squeezed in with NE Ohio (Cleveland/Akron) because OP isn't so big over there.
 
For California, it's basically Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area, and then Los Angeles and San Diego. There's some other leagues/player areas thrown in around with decent numbers like Bakersfield, Modesto, and I guess you could say Fontana is outside of LA. Concentrated area in California easily means a 3 hour radius. I believe the league in Santa Clara is one of the largest in the United States, as well.
 
Let's see....

The biggest concentration of Pokemon players...like vince and others said..>Wash State has several leagues, well attended cities/BR.....States this year will hopefully be BIG...and oh yea....not to forget three past world champions and a 2nd place World player.....

Now to give credit where credit is due for this huge success..

I was just skimming off of the top of my head...I am sure I missed others.

Would also be interesting to see where the National Champs and World Champs come from each year...I can only do the Junior Division (anyone REALLY surprised by that?)

Florida has 3/15 for the fall BRs. Not bad at ALL considering how many players are sitting out for a lot of pre-states.

It's such an awkward state to travel in, just like California. You have people 8 hours away from each other in the same state lol.
 
I missed the Seattle City Tournament held at Blue Highway games, but I got this message from a player who was there:

"Blue Highway had the 2nd biggest turnout in the state for cities. 58 players total. First Cities in Washington that had enough junior players to have a top 4 cut instead of just top 2. Bragging rights abound!"

I didn't think to ask him which city had the biggest turnout.

At that time, probably. The weekend in Chicago had two tournaments that both dwarfed that total. Saturday had 76, Sunday had in the 60s.
