US Nationals attendance capped at 1024!

PUI has put the Nationals FAQ up on their website for the US and Canada. To get the information straight from the source follow the links below:

US Nationals 2008 FAQ

Canadian Nationals 2008 FAQ

Here are a couple of the more interesting bits of information about the US Nationals.

  • Registration will be limited to the first 256 Junior Division players, 256 Senior Division players, and 512 Masters Division players.
  • You MUST register for an event ticket in your division through the Origins Game Fair website or on site at Origins to be eligible to play.
  • Players without an event ticket will not be admitted into the event.

Imagine if we hit the cap ... 1024 players would be an event to remember!!!

It would take BDS.

BDS is the Chuck Norris of Judges.

You run a 1024 player event, you have BDS as judge...BDS beats the event.

I'm planning on preregistering my Origins junk next month, and I will definitely be there to register. How early do people generally start to show? I hate standing in lines!

Move over yu-gi-oh, Pokemons in the building! Ready and about to get more attendance then your nationals for 3 straight years in a row.

According to the POP website, there were 735 registered for the event, breakdown was 149/168/418.

I think that, for now, just be happy if we hit 900. There was a 199 person bump from 06 to 07. Unfortunately, no information from years previous on POP site. I don't think we'll get more than the 200 person bump from last year. However, that still might mean that Sr could hit that 256 mark.....

I would not be surprised one bit if seniors hit the 256 limit.

So there is a hard cap on each section and not limits...meaning if Jr and Sr had 100 each and Masters had 700, Masters would still be capped at 512. I think that is a shame but it makes sense because the swiss would be sooo long.

Yes, each age division has its own cap. That is because each age division is run as its own tournament. The caps are strategically set at break points where the number of swiss rounds would increase if one more player was added.

This could be a challenge for Origins because, if I remember correctly, the event tickets were not age-based (i.e. my two Junior players had the same event ticket as my husband and I). I'm sure that PUI thought of this though but if you didn't add division-based event ticket to your to-do list.

More than likely, they set up 3 Nationals events through Origins, and make sure that it is PAINFULLY CLEAR which one is for which age division.

i remember last year at nationals they announced there was a total of exactly 734 players, the only reason i remember it though was because thats how much money i had in my pocket at the time ROFLz

I know POP probably doesn't have the numbers for this, but I'm pretty sure the Super Trainer Showdown had more participants with over 300 in the middle age group, and similar numbers in the other two divisions.
