I haven't played for 2 years, and I'm just starting again. This is an idea for a modified deck so suggestions must be within the current modified format. I want some feedback on better structures and better alternatives to the cards I list. Here's the list:

Pokemon; total: 21
3 Infernape (Diamond and Pearl #5)
4 Monferno (Diamon and Pearl #56)
4 Chimchar (Diamond and Pearl #76)
2 Infernape LV.X (Diamond and Pearl #121)
4 Stantler (D&P Secret Wonders #113)
4 Heracross (Dragon Frontiers #3)

Trainers; total: 20
4 Energy Restore (Diamond and Pearl #106)
4 Energy Switch (Diamond and Pearl #107)
4 PlusPower (Diamond and Pearl #109)
4 Pokedex Handy910is (Diamond and Pearl #111)
4 Energy Search (Diamond and Pearl #117)

I figured this would give me room for:
19 Fire Energy

Grand total: 60 (obviously)

Strategy is: This deck revolves around the Infernape LV.X as well as the normal Infernape. I added the energy search to quickly get my energy out and on Infernape, who does a lot of discarding of energy, which is where energy restore comes in. I added Energy Switches to quickly reuse the energy of my starters (Stantler and Heracross) on Infernape (and its earlier evolutions). The special thing about the Heracross is that it's a Delta version making it of the fire type, making it good to prepare the Infernape. I like the Heracross' Poke-body (for when it's the only pokemon out) and it's Dig Deep attack to get energy out of the discard pile. I also like Infernape LV.X's Poke-Power to 8 energies out (if there is any) so I can re-equip it and do 150 damage at the same time. The PlusPowers (which I'm surprised they remade it) will add extra punch to particular attacks so I can get clean KOs with some of the weaker pokemon. The Pokedex Handy910is will give me a little boost in draw power.

Is there any suggestions for better choices?

Thanks,
Ben

this deck won't work, the heracross are just not that good, i can see that any shining horn pokemon would be usefull in a format filled with absol, but i think inferncatty is a better combo, obvously you don't need stantler with no supporters

your energies need work, cut them to like 16 max, including 4 double rainbow energies,

your trainers are off too, take pretty much all of them out

try 4 celio's, 3 roseannes or mentor (mentor let's you discard fires)

you will also need at least 5-6 forms of draw, preferably tv reporter, but the new draw card that will be coming out will be easy to get, although if your an old player you might have some tv reporters, you want 4 tvr, then like 2 copycat, or steven's advice ( another reprint you might have)

no energy restore, the lvl x needs 8 fires in the discard to pwn

Thanks for the ideas. I will make a new list and post it in this thread when I have time.
You don't need to repost it! Just edit your original post! :thumb:

You'll really want to add 4 Double Rainbow Energy to take advantage of Infernape's attack.

Another question, before I update the decklist. Has Bill's Maintenance been reprinted? If so, do any of you think it will it work as some (not all) of the draw power in this deck? It's probably the draw card that I have the most of still.

Okay, I'll do that instead.

Bill's Maintenance was reprinted in both Crystal Guardians and POP5, so you should be fine. I don't really see them as a draw card though, Professor Oak's Visit is actually superior to it (because you can play POV with no hand left while BM needs at least one card); but that might just be me.

And Bill's Maintanence doesn't discard, which you will want to do.

The Pokémon should go something like this:
4 Chimchar
2 Monferno
3 Infernape
1 Infernape Lv.X
4 Skitty
3 Delcatty
2 Delcatty EX
4 Starter (Stantler, Pachirisu)

If you search through this forum, there is a really good version with lots of discussion. The trainers are probably all that need updating.

In this deck i think that absol sw is better. you don't need a setup help with delcatty pk who draws with a energy, so an opponent's setup block is a better choice in my opinion

Okay, this looks like a good start. However, only two Monfernos? Does that mean I might need rare candies? Or will I be able to get by with two monfernos, and end up with 1 infernape and 1 infernape Lv. X on the field?

I might be able to get by with choosing the trainers myself, but if anyone has anymore suggestions about good trainer choices, it would be appreciated if someone could tell me.
