Lets Bring Empoleon Back!

Status
Not open for further replies.
i decided to change the name to fit Magic Umbreon's newly posted empoleon thread.

pokemon: 23
4-3-3/1 empoleon/lv x
2-2 palkia lv x
2-2 mantine
2-2 claydol

trainers:20
3 Steven's
2 TGW
2 POV
3 roseanne
4 celios
3 Candy
1 night maintenance
2 switch
1 primeir ball

energy:17
8 water
2 holon wp (help against sonic blade and the like.)
3 scramble
3 DRE

STRATEGY!
i use the basic empoleon strategy.
with the help of palkia's disruption and mantines free retreat.
spread damage on big things, then bring it up with palkia to kill it off, while free retreating their choice to bring empoleon back up.

my ideas for some changes:

posible techs
shiftry ex- punish powers and help spread damage. may need multi energy for this.
ampharos sw spread more damage via pokebody.
swampert ge- help move energy around, could attack with it if need be, then move the energy off it when it goes back to the bench. 4 for 80 and discard isnt bad.
absol ex- with mag around this seems like a deffinate no.
sharpedo sw- everything should have 20 on it so i could do 80 for 3, then they take damage for attacking me.
or just 2 more trainers to help set up or something.

maybe 2 stadiums of some sort so as to not waste a palkia start if it happens.
choices would be- speed, battle fronteir, and/or glacias (doubt there will be ANY electric though).

plus power so i can OHKO magmortar and break the 80 hp line which a fair few of things have.

i was also wondering if this would need a starter of some sort.
pachirisu and lapras could both work well.

a big thank you to anyone and everyone that helps!

maybe for the extra spot you could add in a premier ball to help keep palkia lv x alive, although you have 2 of them
i dont know if that really helps, but, yeah

K. I added the empoleon to take the extra spot i had.
i considered premier ball, but i figured that i didnt need it that much.
now if i were to play the emp lv x then i would prolly put it in.

thanks for the advice, love to hear more.

I would still use at least 2 Premier Ball to keep Palkia Lv.X alive, and if you use Palkia Lv.X and have it in play it wouldnt be a bad idea to play 1 Empoleon Lv.X

My son and I have been testing a similar deck (see the thread a GE version of Swift Empoleon)--the problems I have hit have been twofold: Mantine is great for free retreat but has an awful attack in that you can't use it two turns in a row and Palkia takes a long time to power up given that Spatial Rend is a pretty lousy attack and the other attacks for Palkia and Palkia Level X take 3 energies.

Love that Palkia Level X Poke-Power, however.

Anxiously awaiting more feedback on this deck to help with my one.

BTW, one of my favorite techs is Suicune with Disable depending upon how much Blissey there is in your area.

Good luck.

pokepockets- ill consider it. again, it largely depends on if i play the lv x or not. anyone have an opinion on that?
Justin T- thanks, it seemed like a good idea, i think ill still try it for myself come league, but now i have an idea on it will work.
jconti2818- i dont really plan on attacking with my palkia or mantine, just using their power/body. i'll be sure to tell you how it does when i can test it. thanks for the good luck, you too!
fchangus2- ill keep that in mind, i think thats where i am leaning the most right now with the tech situation.

thanks.

Take out the added space for the TecH's and add in a second Claydol line...Talk about speed.

Also with the added Claydol line, you would be able to use TGW with amazing efficiency.

alright, i changed the list and added the 2nd claydol line.
what should i take out for the TGW?
i wanted to put them in but didnt know how to make enough space for 2-3.

What about something like this?:

trainers:20
3 Steven's
2 TGW
2 POV
3 roseanne
4 celios
3 Candy
1 night maintenance
2 warp point/switch

energy:17
8 water
3 holon wp (help against sonic blade and the like.)
3 scramble
3 DRE

Ive actually played wih only 3 Candies and the deck seems to do ok, and especially with a Consistancy "Crutch" like Claydol in their.

I also added a bit more stability to your NRG line, though having a 4th DRE in their would do wonders for this deck. Giving you some NRG acceleration. If you wanted you could try -1 WP, +1 DRE? Or even -1 Scramble, +1 DRE, if you dont want to take out the WP.

thanks, i'll make those changes.

i wasnt sure about even playing the DRE cause itll take my already kind of low 70 and maybe 20 and turn it into a 60 and maybe 10, does it really help that much?
i figured that empoleon would be out there long enough to get another empoleon powered up to bring up the rear.
maybe not?

Well, remember, over the course of the game and especially with Palki X, your going to be able to spread damage around really effectively...So the lower damage output wont hurt that much..Since you can determine what comes out, etc. Also the fact that you can get 3-5 Empoleons out a game (assumming you dont have to sacrfice something). THerefor adding to your damag spread.

Empoleon isnt about massive damage output, but more of a spreading type damage...Which IMO is more devastating than OHKOs, becuase then you can control your opponents bench (on what they can bring active) more often than not.

So my point is, yes DREs can make a HUGE impact becuase 1) you can potentially have one out T2 either attcking with his firts attack to spread damage, or his secondtaking possible KOs. 2) It gives you that needed speed to build up multiple Empoleons.

Depends on the deck you will be playing..If your playing against GaG, your going to need the speed of the DREs. Possible against Magmortar as well (though less likely, unless the version you happen to play against has Holon FF).

hmm yes very true.
well im sold on the 3 dre's, ill see how that works and maybe up it to 4.
thanks, i really appreciate the help!

and i wold be happy to recive more from anybody who is willing!

How about Lapras as a starter and cessation crystal instead of the Palkias and Mantines for increased consistency and disruption. Palkia's power is somewhat unnecessary considering you can bench snipe anyway. If the build is more Empoleon-centred, possibly try Lake Boundary to do even more damage against Magmortar.

Yeah, dats da way to go.
Cessation+Empoleon=TANK (Cept I don't like Pachi doin 70 for 1 and discarding it.)
2x Lapras as a starter replaces 2x Corsola and it searches out those.
And you basically have a fast trainer layout and arytings good.

thanks for the advice.
if this build doesnt work out, then i will definatly try that build out, but i really do want to give this build a chance.
the reason im playing it with palkia is becuase i can spread damage on their bench, then bring it up with palkia and most likely finish it off with empoleons second attack.
now assumeing that i had spread some damage with prinplup earlier, stuff like gallade should be about 70 damage away because of aqua shower, brine, and ice blade.
but if it doesnt work quite the way i would like, i will put in the lapras/cess crystals/lake boudry and stuff like that.

thanks for everyones help, more will always be appreciated.

here's one problem with the Palkia idea.... the power is essentially a double-gust. If I were your opponent, I would actually gust up your Claydol, which has a 2 retreat cost... and now you're stuck.

....
touche'
i completely forgot that the mantine doesnt help the claydol! lol!
well i might have to up the switch/warp point count huh?
i think that the claydol will help consistancy enough to be worth that risk.

so anyone think i should up the switch/warp point count for this situation?
