Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Communication to new TOs - UK Pokémon OP

Hi there,

Today there was a slight confusion Re: CC Prizes. Can we have confirmation of the prizes that the winners of Ciy Championships in the UK should receive? Also can I request that some sort of confirmation is emailed, written and/or telephoned to all TOs in the UK to confirm the prize structure? As some winners left the Leicester CC with only 3 Booster packs until the situation could be clarified.

Thanks.

PS Thanks to Ben Ward for bailing out Leicester CC today when we didn't know how to resolve the winners... obviously I could only advise as a player and not a Professor at the event... cheers for that Ben! :thumb:

Prize support is a box per age group split as per normal -

1st place - 18 boosters
2nd Place - 10 boosters
3rd & 4th - 4 boosters each

Making 36 boosters or 1 box :D

It is up to a TO to spread prizes; or not, where there are not enough players in an age group to give out all the prizes - I would hope the players today had the prizes spread from jnrs and snrs so that everyone went away with something??

I am sure venomex will clarify if I missed anything..

As it's the first CC ever run for many venues I strongly suggest to have this clarified by Venomex a.s.a.p. directly to the TOs of all CCs so we can start to chase players up and reward them with the correct level of prizing. It's unfair for CC players to be staring at three boxes and to be left wondering how many boosters they should really be getting for their achievements.

Must say, communication with Pokemon UK at the moment, for us at least, has been very disappointing. We've spoken to Venomax directly, sent emails, PM's - and we'v just been given minimal information about Cities, Regionals/States, Prereleases etc. We were promised some more info so we can get our region back on track with some premier events, this was well over a month ago now. So much for that.

Alas it's now probably too late to do anything about cities now; the time has been and gone. Were just hoping we don't get forgotten again with future premier events. :nonono:

Any explanation please?

In fairness I should state that we received plenty of time for our event to be advertised once sanctioned, plus the prize structure came as promised. My point focuses on what was given out in the boxes previous to the new takeover of OP by DNA. They may not be aware that a letter stating how the prize structure should be broken down did go out with every CC box with TPFG. I didn't really think about it much until we couldn't confirm on the day what player should get what. In a long run of successes by DNA games and UK OP so far this year as far as Leicester League is concerned from a player's point of view, my point is a suggestion and feedback and not negative criticism. I hope it's not seen that way either as it's not my intention.

Other than that the CC was fantastic. Ace - can you list what you needed more of and to what timescale?

Equally we should be encouraging our TO's to visit the official website and check the details there too:

Go-Pokemon.com City Championship FAQs

I am constantly amazed by players and TO's who wail for an answer whilst they fail to take a look at the official website..

True. But.

They could raise the point that the 2007-2008 website on Premier Events

http://www.go-pokemon.com/op/premierevents/

no longer lists City Championships as they have been completed in NA. Yes, I know, and realise that by clicking on Past Events TOs can get to the City Championships (your link)...

Details subject to change. Last update: October 30, 2007

What are Pokémon TCG City Championship Tournaments?

The Pokémon TCG City Championships are title events where players in each of the three POP-recognized age categories can earn the title of City Champion! Results of the City Championships count toward your Premier Rating!
City Championship events are operated by independent Tournament Organizers across North America.
For details regarding City Championship events outside of North America, please click here.
So clicking on the last link as we are outside the USA... all you get are a list of these...

Upcoming City Championships 07/08

International City Championships 07/08
and these

Past City Championships 07/08

International City Championships 07/08
Obviously then at this point you think right the prize structure should be the same then for all of them... clicking back...

What is the tournament structure?

The tournament is run using the Modified Constructed Format and Age Modified Swiss pairings. See the Pokémon Tournament Rules for information about the Modified Format and Swiss. The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on total attendance at the event. Age groups with at least six, and less than twelve players will have a top two single elimination final. Age groups with twelve or more players will have a top four single elimination final.
The sets legal in the Modified format have recently been updated. Please make sure you’re ready with a legal deck by reviewing the legal sets for the Modified Format here.
The City Championships series will have a K-Value of 16. For more information on how the K-Value affects your Premier Rating, please see the Ratings and Rankings FAQ.
What are the prizes?

Prizes are awarded to the top 4 players in each age group.
Our age groups are:

Junior Division: Born 1997 or later

Senior Division: Born in 1993, 1994, 1995, or 1996

Masters Division: Born in 1992 or earlier

Participants will receive an exclusive City Championships promo card and a commemorative pin, while supplies last..
Top 4 finishers in each of the three age categories receive the following prizes:
1st Place
  • 18 Pokémon TCG booster packs
  • A City Champion medal
  • Prize kit containing cool Pokémon merchandise!
2nd Place
  • 10 Pokémon booster packs
3rd & 4th Place
  • 4 Pokémon TCG booster packs
So perhaps three things could be improved:

1. Simple confirmation on website that Prize Structure is same for CCs across the world.
2. Retention of CC link on go-pokemon Premier page
3. Confirmatory letter sent in CC Prize box spelling out the above facts

Bearing in mind a lot of the leagues up and down the country are new this year to running Premier Events mistakes are bound to be made (the Professors and TOs have only just qualified). Hopefully DNA Games can, like you've recommended, reiterate the documents and websites above to ensure new TOs are brought up to speed before the events as soon as possible.

Can't help but agree with you Freddy. Given that booster prize support has ALWAYS been at the discretion of the LD iIt isn't much to expect details of how to award prizes to be sent out to organisers. To make it simpler the information should be sent out to both new and old. An email would suffice, every organiser has to have an email address.

Agreed

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Just saw this point again and have to implore the new LD to continue to work ever so closely with the Professors and TOs who have helped sustain Pokémon over the past decade in the UK - points such as the one raised above are gained through hard-earned experience as long term Tournament Organising and playing. Frequent communication will not just help raise awareness of current events but improve and help take them forward to the next level in future years.

1 box of product per age group, split between the top X Players....seems simple enough..

I will speak to each of the remaining CC TO's to make sure they understand this again.

Again, trial and error - we will be working with Esdevium to make sure the correct information is sent out with the kits.
