Now that the Ontario Provincials are done and over with, time to do a modified copy-pasta and post information about the upcoming Eastern Canadian Regional Championship:

Date & Location

Saturday, April 12, 2008
Toronto, Ontario

Location: Best Western Primrose Hotel - 111 Carlton Street, Toronto (same location as last year)
Registration: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Start Time: 11:00 PM

Here is the location of the hotel. While it is not in the middle of nowhere, arriving early is still recommended as extra time can be allocated as there will be many people attending the event. While the hotel supposed to have parking, but it is quite expensive ($23 instead of $15 compared to last year). So if you don't want to pay so much for parking, walking will be necessary as you will have to find parking lots and such. Check Toronto Parking Authority for some of the parking spaces near the hotel.

Here's the prize structure for all three divisions

1st Place
- A Pokémon TCG Regional Championships 1st Place Trophy
- A Travel Award for the winner (including a parent or legal guardian for players considered a minor, Canadian residents only, to the 2008 Canadian National Championships)
- A scholarship award worth $1500
- 36 booster packs of Great Encounters
- Other cool Pokémon merchandise (Probably a bag and a hat?)

2nd Place
- A Pokémon TCG Regional Championships 2nd Place Trophy
- A scholarship award worth $1000
- 36 booster packs of Great Encounters

3rd
- A Pokémon TCG Regional Championships 3rd Place trophy
- 36 booster packs of Great Encounters

4th
- 36 booster packs of Great Encounters

5th - 8th
- 18 booster packs of Great Encounters

9th - 16th
- 9 booster packs of Great Encounters

Also, please try to lay off with the trash talking in this thread, you know who I am referring to

EDIT: Thanks Sean ... I failed in modifiying copy pastas

Location: Best Western Primrose Hotel - 111 Carlton Street, Toronto (same location as last year)

The Best Western isn't in Georgetown

Not for those who come outside of Toronto, they should either drive or carpool  Even I (who lives in the city) would rather drive to the Regionals since I don't like to ride the TTC while carrying so many items ...

I always drive to within say maybe 5 or 6 stops from Barrie an hour and a bit away. Someplace where you can still park easily and cheaply, Jump on the Subway and boom your there. 15 minutes on the train is better than 20 mins finding parking getting ripped off by the lot attendant etc. I carry lots of stuff too and my 2 girls are with me. Works for me but to each his own I guess. Too bad I can't make regionals this year. This is one tourney that I really wanted to be there for.

Regionals is going to be the best and I guess this sort of declares who is going to be in the Top 4 at nats too:(

wow, don't you think thats slightly obnoxious? let alone not being baised on any facts. after all, since when have nats t4 ever been just from ontario? arguably the 2 best players in the country are from western canada.

I am only assuming that the player who wins our Regionals who goes to Nats will do their best to represent Ontario (therefore making the top cut). I didn't mean anything else by it. Hopefully I am the one to go to Vancouver because it would be really fun:)

Hey, maybe it's worth playing in after all. I might show up, but since I'm a few years out of the groove of playing, I doubt I'll do very well. I've definitely said I wouldn't judge this one. Good luck to all participants.

Isn't Regionals Top 16 (with a big enough croud) [*goes and checks on the OP website*] Here is what is said:

The tournament is run using the Modified Format and Swiss pairings. See the Tournament Rules for additional information about the Modified and Swiss formats. The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on the total attendance of the event.

After Swiss rounds are complete, there will be a cut to single-elimination finals. The number of players to qualify for the finals will depend on the total attendance in each age bracket, with a maximum of 16 players playing off in any one division.

So how many people need to show up for MA and/or SR to get a top 16 cut???

How many people? Well since top cuts are aprox. 1/4 the total players base of that age group, I would figure you'd have to have more than 32 in each age group to have a top 16

ok, I'll find out for sure later on today. I'm probably wrong, but I'll check it out with TOM when i get home from work.
