Strategy:
DECK THEM OUT!
Start with absol, baleful winding to slow their setup and hopefully discard their night maintenances or other crucial trainers. Get a Claydol up, and with this mostly trainer engine, speed through your deck, playing as many rhyperior as possible (using scoop ups and rare candies). Usual games, i pull 5-7 total rhyperiors.

If all goes well, your opponent will have nothing late game. My usual games end up with me stalling with an absol and baleful winding their hand away while i continualy Earth Fissure them.

Drawing prizes isnt neccessary (as you want to deck them) but knocking out your opponents sometimes is (i.e. powered up pokemon) so 4 scrambles are a given (hopefully they will take the first prize by killing your absol). Switch and Super Scoop up also help you avoid unneccessary KOs to prolong the game further (scooping up a statused 130 damage rhyperior is price less).

Notes:

I played this exact list at CA states and went 5-2, losing to a ho oh (couldnt help it, T3 or so Ho oh with 7 energies is too much) and a blissey deck (darn you rock wrecker not applying weakness). I succeessfully decked 2 Gardelades, 1 Magmortor, 1 Blissey, and one other rogue deck.

I plan to play this at regionals too, so any help is appreciated

Skittles woo!

ok I really liked that someone actually made Rhyperior good without Briney in the format!!
I think you should add a TSD(if you have) or another night maintenance, maybe take out a switch??? and maybe in Battle Frontier if you could to stop colorless stuff(but then again low deck might stop them from using it)

Im going to make this and try out some things to see how it can work out.. I'll report on here what I find

we dont have TSD XD

this deck is low on space but it pwned our friends deck

against my deck, rhyperior dies to piplup swarm :p

*wishes i had a TSD*
but i think night maintenence works fine here. Im usually left with like ac ouple quickballs at the end...

which reminds me...
getting rhydons wiht quickball was really annoying. Made me consider taking one out... but im afraid itll lose consistency.

and i also thought about the BF, as it counters crystal beach too... just couldnt find space xD i was just gonna hope i discard a couple things with absol... and if not...yay for manually powering up a rhyperior!

*if briney was legal... volbeat illumise anyone? o_O*

So yeah im basically wondering what i can take out for this other stuff... as space is very limited

GL with building the deck =]

Play Nidoqueen d here. Also you dont need that much energy, when you want to discard your opponents cards. Just hit em with a scramble when they kill your active rhyperior, otherwise put a circle or something in. With More Night Maintenance you can put a new line of Rhyp even in one turn: When your Rhyp is dead, use Night Maintenance, and use nidoqueen&claydol+Supporters to get rhyp line back to your hand ASAP. Of Course you can also scoop them back to ur hand but they fail sometimes so..

Also Roseanne is better than Mentor because you can search that early energy for absol if you dont have it in ur hand. Im not even sure to play starter here.. but absol looks like ok.

I dont see those swicth/warps nesessary at all..

I am a little skeptical as I cant imagine how you can possibly discard enough cards with Rhyperior for it to matter. I will test it out though, to see how it works. But I am suprised that you do not run Holon Circle though. Seems like a perfect as a counter stadium and a help in your stalling strategy.

my 2cents worth, try to fit in a 1-0-1 Swampert Line, may seem unconventional, but it makes for a decent attacked since it also discards top card of opponent's deck, AND it can let you cycle energy after a warp point/switch. and absol is nice since w/ claydol, they end up drawing more when u discard their hand.

I have a great addition to the deck.... a 2-2 or 3-3 water weavile with 4 spechle dark energy. the second attach, chip off allows you to discard your opponints hand down to 5 cards. it powers itself with shadow charg. it make itself dark with the power and it has free retrete. with the dark energys the attach isnt so bad ether. 60 or 80 and discard there hand is great. that ott to help deck them quicker:thumb::thumb:

ooo i really like the swampert idea, with the switchs and stuff, i can move scrambles and energy of absols... hehhe ill try that out. helps kill some magmortors too.

about the holon circle thing.
i would much rather attack with an absol then try to stall out.

i guess my deck is a more aggressive rhyperior set. With the switches and warps, i can almost guarantee an absol start and i can attack with rock wrecker every turn (if i needed to go aggressive). I find that not many things can kill a rhyperior in one hit, so i try to avoid unneccessary prizes being taken by switching them out and then waiting for a scoop up.

@nidoqueen suggestion.
getting setup isnt usually the problem. and i need my bench space. =/

@energy suggestion.
Maybe i can cut one or two, but not too many, as getting 2 manually charged rhyperiors while absoling has not been a rare incident.

@night maintenance.
Yeah i should prolly add more of these in...

@ weavile
errrr... i think id rather stick with absol. Cuz many times i found my opponent to have a relatively small hand (be it because of my absol or claydol-ing). Yeah, claydol cuts the effectiveness of a chip off too

thanks for all the suggestions =]
ill test some stuff out and update later

I'm not 100% sure how the deck worked, but here in KY a Rhyperior/Gardy deck got 3rd place at states. Gardy I'm thinking was probably just a form of deck acceleration? I think Claydol is better though, it'll help conserve your rare candies.

A quick fix:

-1 Roseanne's
-1 Switch
+2 Celio's Network
You want Claydol out as fast as possible, and Mentor is better in here because you want a full bench to encourage Steven's for 6, and lots of Rhyhorns to play evo cards down on as soon as you draw them with Claydol.

You have a lot of trainers that need to be saved for the right situation, like switch, warp, scoop, and windstorm. I could see this potentially getting in the way of your Cosmic Power. Maybe find some room for some ER2/Pokenav/Pokedex/more Steven's?

did that other deck run absol too? just wonderin.

im going to try the more celios, it should work...thanks for the fix

i tried the swampert thing, i think its more of a hassle then a help, as it wastes a rare candy and takes up valuable bench space.

i also added one more NM and steven

still unsure whether to add stadiums or not, maybeh speed stadium? <3 i know its sorta gimmicky, but it would help me setup as well.

also, i was thinking about adding in a sableye CG to disble stall or to excavate away dead draws.

ill update list as i test it out

thanks ^^

If you were to add stadiums, BF is an obvious choice. You can easily discard Mag's Windstorms so they can never get set up.

I really <3 the deck. Did you have any problems with time? Like, say, G&G never gets set up because you just Baleful everything useful they draw. Is that a problem?

Time as in the time limit for the game?

nope, but most of the people i played were like the respectable ones that know that they are going to deck. Like 2 matches vs GG, i basically kept them to nothing on the field and had an absol destroying their hand, but my opponents never tried to stall out.

although, i wont be as naive to say that time will never be a problem. like for states, my friends warned me to play fast just in case i face the random jerk that tries to stall out.

This list is looking pretty cool. However, the stall tactics of this deck is what i think really makes it the deck, decking your opponent and all. I would fine a way to add in the following

Holon Circle (Stall for another turn!)
Entei SW (If you knock the defeding pokemon out, they discard more cards!)
Fire Energy (For Entei!)
of course,if you play the Entei, you may not want to play Holon Circle

Anyway, JMO

i updated my list with the slightly modified trainer line and 1 less rhydon, still need to find room for NM.

i actually find that the deck is best as is (pokemon wise)
adding techs i think reduced the overall effectiveness, which is mass discarding in general.

i tried swampert and sableye, just took up bench space =/ entei as well i think will just be a waste of space with the entei and fires (they might get discarded) and most likely i wont be killing anything with it...

Wow, this is a solid build for this format. Few pieces of advice:

I know from playing against this deck and a friends record with it that it is very easy to stall out with time. The way GG is it is very hard to discard those last cards, especially when they Wager you.

GG can use Psylock to wreck your strategy, what is your answer to that?

You only have 9 T1 Energy, and no Rosanne or Castaway to pull that T1 Energy in case you whiff, let alone need the Basic Dark. I think Rosanne > Mentor here.

I'd really like to play this deck, but the stalling and Psylock issues are keeping me from it. What have you seen in the matchup?

I only have a little experience against GG/Furret, so this is somewhat limited knowledge.

Your basic strategy is to just spam them with Absol. You want to use Baleful Wind all the time. Using multiple Rhyperiors can wait...the most important thing is that you are sacrificing about 2 or 3 Absol and using 2 or 3 Baleful Wind with each one of them. After that, you Scramble a Rhyperior or 2 (depending on your set up) and go to town. Gallade can't one hit Rhyperior after they take 2 or 3 prizes, so they have to Sonic Blade, which helps you if you just used Rock Wrecker because you can just get another Scramble and KO the Gallade. By this point they're struggling to get set up again, and then they just deck themselves by Telepassing your Mentors, Roseanne's and Steven's.

Most of the time I got at least one Rhyperior off before they started Ploxing me.

The stalling seems like it will be a problem, but if you play fast enough you should be able to call a judge over for them stalling. And late game it is pretty easy to go up in prizes because they have very little left in their deck to fight back. You just have to be really conscious about your energy drops when it gets to that point because you can't SSU-juggle them as easily as you can with Scrambles.

thats exactly how all my matchups vs GG went. i even got so lucky one game to discard their gardes/rare candies so they couldnt even setup a gardevoir properly. so far im 4-0 vs GG, but the furret GG didnt cause me as much trouble as GG with absol. My hand was relatively full of trainers. But luckily, i got a claydol up fast, and i just killed the stupid absol with another baltoy o_O

mrdraz07 and yellowlob: Wow, I feel like a noob- I read all the posts EXCEPT the two about the GG matchup before I posted XD.
