I've thought this over many times now. Psychic Lock should be an effect that can be removed by either warp point or something else. There is a major difference from Disconnect which actually put the effect on your opponent, to Psychic Lock which puts it on the Pokemon themselves. So being an effect on the Pokemon warp point, Unown G or Water + Holon Energy WP should be able to prevent it or get out of it.

This another attempt at making out format a little bit better since we are all sick and tired of facing G/Gs every tournament we go to. It's really affecting the game.

It's gotten to the point where I wish I would have enough money to buy all the Gardevoirs and burn them up. It's ridiculous how we have the one set that could have changed it all, taken out. Any chance at making up for in POP set go to waste, and then remove the better cards from a set that would have finally made this game fun again.

I'm debating whether I want to go to Regionals and face G/G in 6/8 games I play.
 
Its something you gotta deal with. Like last season, Flygon d Ex got really big,you would see that deck everywhere. At nats,it was so many Ape decks it was dumb.

If you play that many G&G decks,just play Banette or Magmortar and go 6-2 7-1 or 8-0

After worlds,Gardy probaby wont be that strong since DRE and scramble are rotating out. Then Magmortar will be the play,then Kingdra will take out Magmortar and then and then and then. Its just something u gotta get over.

Q. If I attack with Gardevoir's "Psychic Lock", can my opponent use any Poké-POWERs if they evolve their Pokémon on the following turn?
A. The effect of Psychic Lock is on your opponent, not on their Pokémon. So no matter what happens to their Pokemon, the opponent cannot use any of their Poké-Powers. That also means there is no way to clear the effect. (Dec 6, 2007 PUI Rules Team)

Get rid of that rating invites next season an use Gym/Stadium challenges, and people will try other decks at States or Regionals.

There are decks that can compete with Gardy and Magmortar, but there are no players who use them.
I played Garchomp and got 2nd at a state full of Gardy (1st was Magmortar) and 1st at a state full of Magmortar. I'm not more lucky than you and I'm just a normal player, but I tried decks that are not considered top tier or meta or anything like that.

Gardevoir is a powerful card as well as Gallade is, but the problems are not any rulings or limits, the problems are the players themselves. You are the metagame, and you decide whether you want to play boring decks and boring matches just to have a good winning chance without testing new strategies.

I think the OP was suggesting that PUI change the ruling to ALLOW such cards to remove the effect of Psychic Lock.
 
why jirachi does the same thing it's just not as good of a pokemon itself, so noone would have found the need to complain about jirachi last year

pui would never change the meaning of psychic lock IMO look at all the stuff people complain about on these forums, they won't do anything about most of them, japan uses it too, they're not going to change japan's card and a card that has a clear and reasonable meaning because of complaints from players in america about how unfair it is because we don't have the right cards to beat it yet, i suggest we all be patient,

gg isn't unbeatable, i've played it for a long time and if it were unbeatable i would be going to worlds, even decks that are fighting weak or rely on powers can beat it it's hard and it may be "unfair" that such a broken yet simple combo exists in pokemon, but hey it just earns you that much more respect to beat gg with a rogue or whatnot
 
yeah but it was a basic and had no weakness whereas gardy is a stage 2 with 110 hp (only 20 more than jirachi) and is weak to itself ( one of the most played decks out there LOL)

look at the standard of cards that were out up to cg then compare them to dp pokemon, gardy is definatley a couple steps up from jirachi but almost every card from dp on that's been used in a successful deck are like 12 steps up from ex series cards

look at our next set and dp5 if you want to argue that dp cards are in general more rediculous than even the most rediculous ex cards heck dp series has a pokemon that lets you take 2 prizes from ANY pokemon, of course not everything can be taken down by cresselia, except maybe gardy LLLOOOOOOOLLLOOOOOOOOLOOLOLOLOl

The point of what i'm saying is that jirachi had the same attack, it was interpretted the same way. Gardy is definately on a different level but gardy has it's downsides too. My point is that i don't think gardy is so much better than jirachi that the same attack should be interpretted differently on gardy. It's not an unfair card at all.

Try applying what you said to things in the past:

- Both Scizor ex and the new Skarmory have an attack called "Steel Wing," but which one did the Japanese pick up?
- UF Jynx actually had a more powerful "Pure Power" attack than EM Medicham ex, but which one claimed a win at a World Championship?
- Finally -- this one's my favorite -- PK Omastar's "Pull Down" attack could be found in the form of a beastly trainer card I like to call ATM [Rock]. [Rock] found its way into many decks and even became the focal point for one in particular (Rock Lock). As for Omastar... I bet many people don't even realize it's a legal card.

The thing is, an attack may be the same by name and effect, but it's a different thing entirely when combined with the Pokemon card it goes with. Jirachi might have had the same attack, but like someone already said, it was a Pokemon that gave up two prize cards upon KO... not to mention the fact that the attack did half as much damage as Gardevoir's does. Or that Gardevoir has a game-breaking power, can level up, has more HP, has an alternate evolutionary line, can abuse DRE's and Scramble's... on and on.

Just to stay on topic, I know what the OP was getting at, so I respect him for that. But I don't think any such change will happen... or that Gardevoir/Magmortar will be banned... or restricted...
 
I don't like this whole effect residing on player business. My problem is in the card design, not the rulings which are the most effective and logical for the text.

I find it intruiging as to what actually happens when a poké-power is activated. Do I tell my pokémon to do it, or does the pokémon just do it? For Gardy's text implies my pokémon are like pawns on a chessboard I'm not allowed to touch. Which is really weird, because as far as I can remember everything else of a disabling nature is about my pokémon not being able to, not that they could I just can't tell them to.

Cessation stops my pokémon from performing their powers, but psychic lock stops me from using those powers.

I don't understand the difference. Surely you either get to use powers or not? It's unfortunate the text is phrased in such a weird way and therefore must receive the correct weird ruling.
 
i'm just saying that gardy is a stage 2 that has weakness to the BDIF, requires 3 energy to attack and only has 110 hp, other stage 2s that level up have 130 like empoleon,

jirachi gives away 2 prizes, and does less damage, but it's a basic, has no weakness and can attack 60 for 1 energy against gardy specifically if you want to directly compare them, gardy only does 50 to jirachi with dre

i see all the advantages of gardy but IMHO it doesn't justify completely changing a card

i understand how people feel about gg, beleive me i'm just saying i don't agree that it should be changed
 
Guys, before this goes on much longer, plz take a good look at the dp4, and dp5 cards.

The only reason that Gardy is sooooooooooo good right now, is because the other legal cards can't compare to it. There are LOTS of cards in up coming sets that can rival Gardevoir in power, so just wait a few months and stop complaining.

alright, well how about instead of acting like you know everything, how about you prove it and tell us what how you stop something that is an effect on YOUR PERSON?
the only thing i can think of is get them in the gardylock before they can do it to you.

i lost top 8 at utah states cause of gardvior.
but it was to a utah player, so it was ok. lol
