Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What's the deal with the tins?

I'm a Pokemon noob, comparatively speaking, so there's an awful lot I don't understand about the TCG.

For example, those weird tins.

What's the deal with them anyway?

First of all they are almost completely empty. Just a can full air, with a few cards under the lid.

So, I thought, maybe these tins are supposed to be for storing your cards.

But that octagonal shape! (Or nowadays are we supposed to say "form factor"?) How are you supposed to fit your cards into that strange shape? Is there a diagram somewhere on the web showing how to pack the cards into an octagonal tin leaving no wasted space? Is this some kind of puzzle that we are supposed to solve like a Rubik cube?

I can fit two deck boxes in there on their sides (with lots of wasted space leftover) but the width of deck boxes is just slightly greater than the depth of the tin. So when I put the lid on, it doesn't quite go on all the way, and presses on and compresses the deck boxes. So that can't be what the tin is for, can it?

So what's the deal with these tins, anyway?

How do you experienced players use your Pokemon tins?

pass on the shape. I was going to make a quip about POP cutting corners but some might actually think that this is the case. I have no idea about the OP budget other than it is HUGE.

I see lots of casual players keeping cards, deck (in a deckbox) and damage counters in the tins. Hardcore types have much more stuff to carry about and use carry cases - backpacks - trolleys - car boots (trunks). I wonder if anyone uses a truck?

I totally get what you are saying. I usually carry around 2 decks and my dice box in a tin, and the lid doesn't go on there all the way. But, it goes on there pretty well, so I am happy with it. Tins are "decent" for holding cards, but again, the cut corners do make it weird.

I will take the cards in the tins being mint before I worry about all the air. For the 4 tin set in a row, I recieved half of my Tin Cards with the bumps on them. It is a huge number that is annoying since I have to send them in to get replaced which can be very annoying.

That's true enough... my Palkia was ok, but my Dialga was ravaged by those stupid bumps x_X

There's a good way to store loose cards in those tins with *little* wasted space.

The cards stand upright fairly well in the tins, and if you put them in lengthwise, they take up not-so-much space.

Pop literally cuts corners with these tins. XD I do like them though, even if I can't stick a whole lot in them!

I give my empty tins away to little kids at League. :thumb:

I was going to do that, but I gave them to the store instead. This way, if someone comes in that has nothing pokemon-wise and buys a theme deck, they can get a nice shiny tin too!

Same here, again. It works well to give them to new players to store all of the common.uncommon cards that i clear out of my collection and give to them. It makes a great first impression on them

I also have one tin full of only damage counters (I provide them for the entire league), and one tin full of POP promo packs (the packs go in on their side, like books, which utilizes the extra space well).

I've not had bad luck with any of the tin cards being in poor shape, and I've purchased a lot of them (though I only purchased one of each of the new ones, as I did not like the pack spread), especially the Lucario X tins.

And oh how loveable and sweet the irony is of pulling a Darkrai Lv.X from one of the packs when you bought a tin... (happened oever here)

I get what you're saying. I also agree that the cut corners do make it a little more difficult to fit cards in. I always try to find uses for my tins when I get one. I have 4 of em' in my closet steffed w/ cards such as energy and basics from older sets. The tins back from, I think SS, were actually square. The octogons looke better though.

I am going to make my statement into why I dont like the tins at all. I buy the tins, and when I open them and 65%+ are damaged it doesnt make any sense. I think PUI needs to take a look into what other games do to prevent this problem. Sorry to say they need to go out buy a Yugioh Tin and look how they do it. They use a full piece of plastic (or 2 pieces depending on how you look at it) to hold down the cards, not 4 bumps that damage the card enough that it isnt what collectors would like.

Just more of my opinion on this,

Drew

Exactly, the kids love them! I know I make it a little more challenging though as I make a deal who ever beats me gets one.:thumb: I try to make it a little more fair though and give the kids who don't have one yet win......That can even be challenging at times......hand of 20 cards but you tell them you have nothing! XD It makes it fun for them though.

And yes it is depressing on how many of the promos are actually damaged.....

I also got the damaged Palkia Lv X and then the Darckrai's are mis-cut, it should be that complicated of a process, hopefully they will fix it, in the near future....

Right, because the times we have complained for the previous 3 sets of tins plus this 1 (for 4 total) they really did. :nonono:

Yeah, I must have given away 30 tins by now, mostly to younger players. Like Mikey says they love 'em. However, my wife has a novel idea for them as well. She uses a couple for costume jewelry! Hey, no one would think to look in there for anything valuable, so I imagine even the good jewelry would be safe in there!
