Empoleon Making a Comeback?

It's just good. What else is there to say? It spreads damage and has magmortar's weakness. It can be paired with almost ANY sniping pokemon and has really good attacks. I think that it's good enough to play in regionals. What do you think?

It might be able to beat Magmortar, but the GG and Gatr matchups are shaky at best. I wouldn't put much faith behind it. Even Banette could be a potential headache, depending on the build.

Holon WP takes care of sonic blade and bring down, which isn't really a problem anyway because I spread damage on THEIR pokemon. Empoleon doesn't really rely on powers, so psy lock isn't that big of a problem. The only attack from GG that hurts is psy cut, and after they OHKO 1 Empoleon, they can't do more than 100 damage. I don't see how the gardy matchup is THAT big of a problem.

As for banette, Empoleon can just snipe the shuppets for 2 Energy which eases the matchup a great deal.

Gatr has a simple solution- Snipe the claydols/delcattys and magnetons and their deck falls apart.

BUt Banette will outspeed you either way,so that matchup isnt in your favor since good builds of Banette disrupt you early game and do 70/80 T2.

Empoleon is nice, but I mean play it with Xatu and hope for a easy matchup.I would rather play Banette or Magmortar/Blaziken which snipes way better.

Im think it looks good and if its built right i can see it doing pretty good at regionals if theres alot of Magmortar decks which seems to be losing play nowdays.

G&G wins this matchup hands down, every time.

As for Hurricane, you take 2 hits to KO a Catty/Claydol/Magneton, and there pulling OHKOs on your Empoleons. Oh don't forget that since your attacking their bench, your leaving an active Gatr to do as it pleases, not to mention that Gatr can and should run a Gatr d tech.

I ran EMPO as MY ROGUE for BOTH States!!! With Sableye as a Starter and the use of Cesslock, he is a pretty good threat!!! I just had some WEIRD situations with him when I loss! I ran WPs and Lake Boundrys to help with The Arche Matchups! Yeah, I went 3-3 with him at BOTH States, but he is STILL very Effective, and still one of my Favorites to use, I am NOW testing him with a FEW Psychic pokemon and DREs, it works!!! You just have to find the right build and the right COMBO to get him to work just right!!!

I don't see how either of your examples are realistic. Emp should get up t2/3 and can ko your catties/magnetons as fast as you can get an effective gatr going. Oh, and lets not forget the lv x. GaG doesn't have a great matchup against anything that spreads damage. Emp isn't a great spreader so he will have some problems but its definately in thier favor.

Just because it has mags weakness does NOT means it beats it. Gatr has mags weakness too but still loses to it.

I found that with the use of Sableye CG as a Starter in my deck, it really helped against matchups with G/G!!! I just kept DISABLING Psychic Cut, and with a Water and WP attached, he could NOT do anything to me! It helped to get a few Empos going with a Scramble on 1 and a WP on the other! With the use of CESSLOCK, helped to keep Gardy X from appearing very often! So G/G doesnt HAVE TO have the favor with Empo and the Right Strat of course!!!

Yeah it happens like that, BUT what I am saying IS that the FAVOR doesnt have to be with G/G!!! Empo can beat G/G consistantly, if BUILT correctly!!!

There are some ways so play Empoleon...

a) with Mantine and Palkia
this is the version I tested a lot, it brings great disruption, exspecially to any Claydol decks. But even with Lapras as starter, its damage output and speed are not high enough to beat G/G in more than 30-40% of the games.

b) with Claydol or any similar support
fastest version, but has no disruption except for Wager + Suppreme Command, which doesn't hurt the current metagame that much, and it also makes far too less damage.

c) straight with Cessation Crystal
hurts most of the decks, but is extremely slow and has no special tricks like the other versions.

But with the new Empoleon that will most likely release in Majestic Dawn, the deck may get a comeback, but unfortunaly, not in time for your Regionals. Empoleon is the absolutely strongest card in the Entry Pack 2008, if the translation is like I think. With damage up to 100, its strong enough to do enough KOs, in addition to that, it can do 30 to 2 Pokémon for 2 energy. So get it out T2/T3, damage their Gardevoir and Gallade for 30, next turn finish them with 100.

I think Empoleon should be taken serious at nationals, maybe it can even be one of the big newcomer decks along with Garchomp variants and Eeveelutions decks.

THANKS ShadowGuard!!! I am glad you said that to me, I LOVE Empoleon, I am glad they are making another version, to Help fit this Current Format!

Cant wait for the release of him, I apprecitate it, YOU know I will be the FIRST to Play the NEW Empoleon!!!

Not really, I hate Empoleon match-ups as they just snipe my poor little Shuppets for OHKOs :frown:

Empoleoan is BEAST, I told you!!! lol Seriously, He is NOT dead by NO means, I will continue to run him as many ways as possible!!! I have and still am finding NEW ways to use his abilitys, DONT overlook him, no matter the Match up!!!

P.S. Except for Electric, or Maybe Grass!!

don't count on playing to a decks weakness, Banette is a tougher matchup than most think. Yes Empoleon is or should be okay for regionals depending on your local metagame
