Wishing Engine (currently undergoing testing)

A lot of people seem to doubt Phione as a 4-of starter, including myself. However, that's just because there hasn't been much publicized thought about making a starter engine based on having 4 Phione.

The big problem I see--and others as well--is that you usually won't have a bench for Phione to have any effect...so why not fix that by running a bunch of basic-grabbers?

Here's the way I see this working:

4 Phione
2-2 Claydol

4 Great Ball
4 Roseanne's
2 Holon Mentor
4 Celio's/Bebe's

Basically what you want to do is get a Phione start, then use your 1 of 10 basic-grabbers (14 if you count Celio's/Bebe's) to get Baltoy (and others if you're lucky) so you get t1 Claydol. Roseanne's is best for this because you can grab Baltoy and the energy you need to use Make a Wish. After that, Claydol helps you whiz through the rest of the deck and get more Great Ball/Mentor/Roseanne's to get more giddy-up out of Phione.

This engine should usually just be used for stage 2 set-up decks that would normally use Pachi. It could also work for 4 Corners-style EVlution decks that need to get to their Lv. X's ASAP

This is untested, but I think it could be quite interesting. LMK what you think!

@SPARTA: 5 or 6 starters? *shudder*

You shudder at the thought of sacrificing 6 card slots for a few basics and almost always getting a good setup, but not at the thought of wasting 4 slots on Phione and 10 slots for cards to grab basics.
I see.

^Not only are you wasting 6 basic spots, you're also wasting 2 bench spots for Bring Down bait/Hard Feelings enabler. All of the trainers in this engine can be used late game without an attack to re-set your board after using a NM.

^ and 2 energy attachments. That's 1 energy to CFF, understandable. Another to Make a Wish.... hmmm...

You could just take what mrdraz has said into consideration. T1 Claydol, and start cranking out evolutions.

Wasting one bench space, you attack with Phione until it dies and setup. If they Bring it down later, thats fine, it was useless and they wasted their attack. In the mean time, I saved 8 deck spots over you, and have alot more room than you do.

8 deck spots...ok, I didn't know Pachi decks don't run Roseanne's for energy, which is exactly what Roseanne's does in this deck after you start setting up with Phione. And using 2 energy attachments in the first 2 turns instead of 1 hurts as well. Claydol compensates for the lack of space by ripping through your deck and finding the reduced count of cards you normally would need 3 or 4 of to be consistent.

I honestly don't want to start yet another argument, so I'll test this and let everyone know how it works out. It just seems much more efficient to use trainers instead of attacks to fill up the bench, that's JMO. I'm not claiming that it's better than anything, and I'm not saying 4 Pachi 2 Phione is "BEYOND N00BISH" either.

And I'm certainly not saying that this can easily slide into any existing deck. I think that's the biggest issue some of you are having with this idea...this is something you build the deck around, not take out random stuff from your deck to make room for it. Hence why it's called an "engine" and not a "starter."

^ stop complaining of starters my deck for br is all starters besides 4 lol

but to pachi phione its not bad in some decks..... *name them and i reward you* like draz said u waste energy attachment ive thought about this engine for a bit and its pretty unstable since there is no energy accel or just bait to GG/dusknior/ and crawdaunt ex

Fair enough, I will simply drop the subject so this doesn't turn into another spamthread.
How about the Wish Engine instead of the Phione Engine? Not trying to be nitpicky, just trying to help out with a catchy name.

My 2 cents worth.....

3 Phione
1 pachi
2-2 Claydol/delcaty/Bronzong

3 Great Ball
2 Roseanne's
2 Holon Mentor
4 Celio's/Bebe's
X TV reporter

This trainer count should allow a first turn going second to setup quite well.

The Bronzong was an option due to you can discard any card, so the increase of setup cards could be used later to trade for a card from the deck. Claydol does the same with those cards but if you shuffle draw or search cards those cards are put back into the fray of cards you could draw, with Bronzong that doesn't happen.

Tv reporter increase the chances that the unwanted startup cards later in game are out of the deck too.

IMO, I see Pnione used very easily in water based decks. Not so much others.

why doesnt much people like phione,i mean when md come out im definetly going to get 4 rh phione to use and then the rest of the set ,also phione will work for bedrill and some other decks but not just water.

Phoine is a starter for a deck that needs evo speed, this engine is fine, but pachi would be better since u cff then phoine.I like that since with only phoine, ure only "wishing"for a good start

omg look, call energy is so that if you go first, this is how you deal with it. what do you do if you go first? draw attach and maybe attack, well the feffect of call energy is just like an attack, going first and using cal energy looses nothing
