Leaps and bounds over the DP version BTW. I'm skeptical though...is this a popular archetype in Japan? They've had this for a while now and I've only heard about GG, Fairies, Mag and Kingdra lately...

Kinda. fliping tails would suck plus dusknoir kinda slows this thing down. Alos there are cards that can stop his first attack. And there are cards that not to many people are talking about that destroy this thing.

empoleon is too slow. this one is just as slow.

The biggest problem with Empoleon wasnt it's attacks. It was the lack of a partner and Energy Acceleration. This version is far better than the DP one, however it ends up having the same problems.
