If you're not angry...

You're not paying attention.

Exxonmobil has posted a $40.6 BILLION profit last year.

That's equal to $110 Million PER DAY.

That's not total assets or income. That's pure PROFIT.

And gas prices are still on the rise.

I am Mad as Well! I had a hot Stock tip on them a couple of years ago but did not want to be a sell out. I could have made big money. The rest of the family did. At least I still have my soul.

Of course I am mad. And we can do... what?
Boycott gas? GL with that, its the only realistic fuel source we can use to travel long distances.
Attack gas stations? The employees there don't make the prices, they simply rely on them for income. And interestingly enough, the income of you average gas station attendee has not risen at all, despite higher prices.
Protest? Its been done quite a bit, the government and gas companies (who for all intents and purposes are basically one and the same) say "we can't do anything about it" and call the riot police to arrest them.
Find an alternative fuel? Doing that, it doesn't help with our current situation at all though.

Find us a good solution and I will be happy to assist. But for now, I really so no viable solution that will work.

Of course I'm angry.

Everybody's angry about this.

Here's the question:

What can we do about it?

Write to our congressmen? Yeah, right. They're all already sooooooooooo deep into big oil's pockets that nothing will ever get through to them.

Sue them? Sure. Let's see that get backed up in the crazy judicial system this country has. Plus, it'll probably get thrown out immediately, even using antitrust as the backdrop, because none of them truly has a monopoly. It's pretty much an oligopoly with collaboration, which can never be proven in court.

Boycott? Yep, that's gonna do absolutely nothing except drive down demand, and thus, quantity supplied. Plus, they don't really care cuz they're STILL gonna make bundles off the airlines and the auto racing industries, not to mention trucking and rail.

There are only two things that will bring these ridiculous gas prices back down.

(1) Finding a new source of oil. This is a short-term solution, as our oil needs and wants are increasing almost by the second, and any oil source that we find to add to the supply of oil will only drive prices down slightly.

(2) Finding a new source of fuel. We're working on this right now. The Hydrogen engine is still in development, and it's not projected to be ready for at least another 5-10 years. At least, not with the sort of power and efficiency seen in current engines. E-85 is not a new source of fuel. It takes over 100 gallons of oil to produce 100 gallons of E-85, and the rate of consumption is higher with E-85 that it is even with 87 octane gasoline.

Oh, and about the soul business? We all lost that eons ago, cemented when Microsoft became the preferred computer format.

Its like I told others already, the Oil Companies is gouging, our stupid president wont do anything.

Theirs no Oil or Gas Shortage, its purely a plot by oil companies to get more money because no one is stopping them.

What is so silly about our oil use is that oil is absolutly NEEDED to produce plastic and rubber. We'll have more than a feul crisis when we run out.

There isn't really an avaliable clean fuel to use. (Although we can do things like make hydrogen, but that's the same as storing energy). I guess the only major options we've got are wind, hydro and solar.

Although they are messing with the situation, we actualy have used 50% of all the oil we have.

What our government has and whats been invented is is beyond comprehension to most people, oil companies is paying people off to keep alternatives flat on its back.

Theirs little boxes that contain energy that could power your home for a life time.

Theirs cars that run off of a little power cell.

theirs cars that run off many alternatives, theirs so many energy sources they dont want you to know about.

I havent exactly seen Ethanol being supplies too much along with more cars using Ethanol, and I havent exactly seen many battery powered cars either they been hyping about for years.

Because Oil companies pay money to keep this off the market.

Oil companies is whats running this country now.

Bullet is exactly right. I'm so tired of these stupid gas companies.

Theres this commercial thats been playing on the big network tv channels recently about how "in this energy crisis and these tough times and all that, we may be a gas company, but were also people, and together we can solve the growing energy crisis and blah blah bla...".

They don't care! The consumption of the Earth's oil resource isn't THAT MUCH. And on top of that there are plenty of energy and fuel solutions being developed and thought of all the time. Or atleast thats what they say.

Why don't the big wigs of these gas companies drain their money filled hottubs JUST ONCE and let everyone else come up for air?! Whats next? Are the gas companies going to BUY OUT congress?!

I wouldnt be too surprised if these oil companies have already bought out congress.

No one seems to be standing in their way and they continue to lie about everything.

I will say this though, I dont want to be in the U.S. in the next 4 years.

I've been mad and will continue to be mad. Our gov't can do things to ease the pinch at the pump, but when your Prez and Veep are bog oil boys from waaaaay back, no freaking way will we get relief!

And the Dems control congress. They wont' do anything because they want a democrat elected in November. My point is already proven with your post.

Electric cars are nice. I worked at an electric power producing utility company for nearly a decade. Several of the company engineers built their own electric cars and the company provided free parking with “recharge” outlets in the parking deck for them. Still those 10 “recharge” spaces were NEVER more than 1/4 full. At this point, unless you can build and maintain your electric car yourself it’s simply not practical ... and even a company full of talented folks only had a small handful that actually had the know-how and gumption to actually do it.

It’s not about oil companies buying up the tech, it’s the support infrastructure, or lack thereof. There aren’t mechanics shops for electric cars scattered throughout cities and across the countryside. There are hardly any houses really wired properly to charge these bad boys. There isn’t much in the way of fallbacks for trips beyond battery range ... i.e. no gas stations for a quick recharge or battery change-out. Conspiracy theories are fun, but it’s not always a matter of shady dealings that stand in the way of new tech. In this case it’s money. It will take a massive effort in terms of money, time, and education (mechanics) to really be able to support a country of electric cars.

The other hidden factor is that plenty of electric utilities have GAS power plants that essentially burn fuel to produce electricity. To this point it’s been a cheap way to do things. Even if we magically changed all the cars we would still have to change the back end power producing infrastructure to be less gas reliant as well.

Actually, the Democrat-controlled Congress is attempting to suspend the federal gas tax to provide some relief.

The dems tried to repeal the tax breaks the oil companies are getting.
The GOP blocked them.

The real cause of the current run up are speculators.
Same thing with food prices.

There is no shortage. This is just like when Enron manipulated electricity prices a few years ago.
But since our govt. is asleep at the switch, no one is even investigating speculators.
