I believe you can buy a wiimote, and they sell wireless sensor bars for $20 in places, but maybe you still need the wii for it anyway.

I'm going to try the one where you can use the wiimote as a mouse or w/e, just as soon as I find the bluetooth thing to see if it can pick up the wiimote...

...you can MAKE a wireless sensor bar. get a few infared LEDs, sauder them and hook up to a battery.
a trip to radio shack will make you a wireless sensor bar for around $7-$10

Last semester, my team used the Wii Remote to control a car. It was pretty awesome even though we didn't get the serial data to read properly.
