The Burlington Center Mall is going to feature our Battle Road that we're holding in June.
We're going to be promoted by them and have it out in the main mall space.

With the extra publicity, I'm expecting a big turnout, and also a lot of non card-players.
I figure kids will see "Pokemon event" and will come with their DSs.

As such, I'd like to run a DS tournament at the event. Either after or during the Battle Road.

Any ideas on how to do it or anyone in the area that can volunteer to help me run it, please let me know, either by posting or by PM.

Also, is there an easy way to do "featured matches" using a Wii or something on a TV screen?

Hey PokePop. If I'm lucky, I might be able to go there. I can help out, as I know how to set everything up. PM me for details, or if you have AIM, hit me at Serebii1997.

Hey PokePop.
I as well am a Jersey player, although i'm sorry that i probably won't be able to make it down there. But i cna give oyu some tips.
First off, you have two choices. Get someone with a nintendo wii and a copy of battle rev. to come down to play with. Or two, just play regular ds. If you have player the pokemon diamond or pearl, and you have wi-fi, then i suggest going to another forum (marriland forums being my # 1 choice), and trade something to get a rare pokemon as a prize. Also, if there is a toys-r-us in your area, stop by May 31st-June 1st to get a darkrai. If none of these appeal to you, just give away a couple of booster packs. Set this up in an orderly fashion, like no legendary pokemon, no pokemon that haven't been allowed to the us eyt, etc.
These are just a few tips. I will post more later.

I would make sure that no-one is using hacked Pokemon. Since I'm a mod on Serebii's DP section, one of the things I do is to check if people's Pokemon are legit or not. Appart from the obvius things, here are some more advansed ways to tell if a Pokemon is hacked:

Check a Pokemon's IVs. If they have a Pokemon with over 3-4 31 IVs then it's probably hacked. 6 31s garantees that it is.
Check the Pokemon's EVs. 510 is the max of coarse. Some cheaters give them more than that.
If a Pokemon has a Clasic Ribbon, it should read: "A commemorative Ribbon obtained at a mystery location". If it says something about "The love of Pokemon" then they have had a hacked Pokemon in there game. (Note that this one is very bad, can cause problems with game saves and can infect other games)

If you want to know any other info on checking hacked Pokemon then be sure to PM me.

i dont think he has time for this. its SIDE event. i am thinking at most maybe 8-12 players will want to play. keep it simple. why should checking a pokemons stats take longer than the event itself?

i would check the pokemons max stats by looking up the pokemon via serebii http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/321.shtml just check the bottom of the page. then check the attacks. ctrl-f on the pokemons page for the attack.

as for the format of play, a popular one is "Battle tower" rules.
You can't have the same three Pokémon in your line up.
Each of your Pokémon may not hold the same item.
Certain Pokémon are not acceptable to enter.
- Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi, Kyorge, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giritina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus.

hope this helps,

I'm hoping to get someone local who can run the DS side event. I'll be running the Battle Road.

You may want to set up a "New player training area" for the pokemon TCG, where players coming by could come and learn to play with "Training" decks (read starter decks) and if they wanted to play in the main event, they could get a badge, and an admission into the main event.

I like using old year's badges for just this type of event. It gets the kids "into it" and gives them a prize for coming and playing in the main event.

Their badge is a reward for graduating from the "Training Zone" and stepping up into the main event.

Stuff for new players is a BIG HIT!!

Have a few blow up Pokeballs, or some GIANT cards, or something that just SCREAMS Pokemon.

Nothing cooler than having kids walk around with Pokemon stuff!

Then, pay for the flight for Meganium45 to come up and run the new player area for you. Steak and Shrimp for dinner, then pay for his flight home. Give him a rare cool shirt too.

The only reason I posted that is because two of my good friends traded for a hacked Pokemon from someone and it ended up wrecking there games. They had to start over to fix the games. (This happened about three weeks ago) Loosing a 400+ hour game save is not fun. I have yet to see it battling a badly hacked Pokemon can wreck games but I would hate for someone to ruin the whole side event with a badly hacked Pokemon.

And I agree with the Battle Tower rules. Appart from that I would ban Wobbuffet. It's banned from almost all tournaments for a reason.

I plan on going to this BR. If you need me I can help, if not I am going to play. It really depends on if you need me or not.
I also have a Wii, 4 Wiimotes, 4 Nunchucks, and a copy of PBR (Pokemon Battle Revolution) if you want to use them.

Drew

Don't forget a ticket for your faithful side kick Mikey!!!!

Well, here in Oregon, we've been having Pokemon Video Game tourneys during every TCG tournament for the past four years. It's usually single-elimination, and they play in between the TCG rounds.

You could PM CyberManectricEX or [R] Visitor about it if you want to know more. They usually run the DS tourneys while BDS runs the main event.

BTW, they usually get around 20 people to participate.
