Just picked up the deluxe edition of Lil' Wayne's new CD, and I am listening to it right now and I gotta say

It's OFF DA CHAIN!

Definitely one of the best rap/hip-hop albums in a LONG time.
What do yall thank bout it?

don't listen to Rap/Hip-Hop, i could tell a good joke but... that would be bashing the thread so... goodbye. Actually, no, i have heard that this guy is pretty good so... there is my 2 cents (i'm gonna get hammered with something saying i'm spamming arent i...?)

lol
at least you've heard of him

lil wayne is ridiculously overrated. mainly by kids from the suburbs who have no idea about how bad life is where people like us grow up and who think its cool... but that's another story. Anyway:
the album is trash. if I thought it was good/great (becuz i DO like some of his work, small amount, but still do) id def say so... but its garbage and because of that, ill continue to say he's overrated. probably the most overrated rapper of all time! just look at the fact that he took, what, like 10 years to get any attention? he was with cash money and the hotboys and never was special. Basically just wak! He got better, yes, but probably needs that syrup to keep the tone of his voice (which alot of people like about him and his material). and well um that picture just puts the icing on the cake >_<

also people swear like hes so lyrical when most of what he does is word things backwards and use metaphors. Put someone like nas next to him and he is a nobody.

Part of what makes an artist truly great is the artist's ability to market him or herself.

If you put Nas next to Wayne, Wayne would make him look like a nobody just as easily as Nas's lyrical talent would shame most others.

He knows exactly what to do to sell a record, and hey, that's what pop is all about anyways.

It's weird with him. His name is out there so much, but the biggest complaint about Lil Wayne isn't that he's overexposed or anything, it's that out of every say, 50 verses you hear him on, 45 of them are weak or sub-par at best. Selling records is what pop is all about, but a respected hip-hop artist must bring consistency, among other things. He has his moments of brilliance, but in my opinion a lot of what I hear from him is really stale and it seems like he's saying things just to say them, I dunno. I'll judge after listening to this album.

Idk what lil wayne tracks u be listenin to but every track lil wayne hes made has been amazing. I love all his verses, hooks, and even mixtapes. He made more money on mixtapes then any rapper out there ta date. He has consistantly made hott tracks with no bad ones. Out of every lil wayne song the only one I didnt like was me & my drink. I cant name another artist where I hated more then 1 track. Lil waynes Fire. Lil Wayne is a beast! Lil wayne is Hip Hop! Call em overrated, but then hes underestimated! Best rapper alive!!!

I agree.
Lil Wayne is talked about A WHOLE LOT LATELY.
But, it's not cause he's over rated by any means. All his music is hot. His swagger, style, lyrics. Basically everything about him is in some way impressive.

There will ALWAYS be haters for ANY great rap artist, so it's not like it surprises me when people say he's overrated etc. cause he really is probably the best rapper of our time, and arguably the best rapper of all time.

There's a few rappers I'd place higher than him. I'M better than him. I give him respect for making this much of a name for himself, can't take away from that, but there's better rap out there. I'll post examples when I get some time of why I think so.

alright, so basically I was glad to see this thread because I was wondering what people thought of the album.
MY personal opinion was that the songs from the mixtapes between tha carter II and III completely outshined the actual album. Obviously, some of the tracks from the album were on those mixtapes, but the songs like "La La La" that wasnt on the album (it's not the same song as "La La" with Brisco and Busta), "I Need Somebody/Help" that sampled the beatles, and sooooo many others were just too good to not put on his album IMO. I actually think he couldn't get the rights to sample the Beatles, but still...you get the point. I think that there were only a couple tracks on the album that he went really hard like Dr. and Mr. Carter. Most of the other songs were less lyrically driven and more beat/hook driven.

I really like the album, and wayne has some songs that were too good for me to ever say he's not a good rapper, but it wasn't nearly as good as I expected. I hoped he would prove he was the best rapper alive.

Now I'm definitely saying that Lupe and Yeezy are the 2 best rappers alive

PS-GinoLombardi-How could you not love me and my drank?

see, that is whats wrong wit you wayne fans. just cuz we dont say "OMGSS hes so great, best rapper everr ooooooo" we are labeled "haters". bolt said it perfectly in his first post, MOST of his lines are WEAK, he has his moments but again, most lines are weak. Its one thing to say hes the best rapper today, but "of all time"? big HA!
Put him to battle someone like Jay-Z or Nas or whoever else that has called themselves "the best" and hed be slaughtered. And swagger, what swagger? He's like 5'5 and kisses his "daddy" birdman lol... the only street cred he has now is from guys in prison lol
