Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Dusknoir at Nationals

With Nationals being so huge, its difficult to look around and see who will playing Dusknoir. So I'm just curious, will anyone play down 4/5 basics in a game? And under what circumstances will you lay down more than 3 basics??

Well, against Garny Gallade or Stage 2 decks, I won't feel comfortable laying down until I know that they don't run Dusknoir. The realistic thing if I see a Garny Gallade, with 1-0-1 Empoleon, with two other techs, I might believe that they don't have the room to fit in a Dusknoir. Against a Stage 1 deck, it would be hard to imagine Dusknoir in it.

Dusknoir "check" is always the first thing a player will do.

Dusknoir in Top 32, you can assume any Dusknoir in your deck is public knowledge. Dusknoir can surprize during Swiss, but never during Tops, too much scouting.

Dont forget Craudent ex in a stage one deck it may not be as powerful but it stills gets the job done with a well timed wager.

Generally, I go into every game assuming Dusknoir is in the opposing deck. Depending on what the deck is I can usually guess if it's in there or not. I'll try and avoid playing a 4th pokemon on the bench unless I have powers locked down beyond a doubt, or I know that I will lose a pokemon before Dusknoir can take effect. Finally, the last point I will feel comfortable in filling my bench is when the 4th Rare Candy is played by my opponent.

Dusknoir hurting Empoleon is a huge misconception. You literally use Surf Together MAYBE 2-3 times a game. Sure, it hurts you if you walk into it, but you shouldn't. Dusknoir is good and certainly is disruptive, but it shouldn't LOSE anyone the game if they don't play into it.

funny how my empoleon deck never uses surf together, and it still wins lol
dual splash is pro

so dusknoir wont hurt people that much if empoleon players know how to play it out

There is one card that completely shuts down Empoleon, and I hope I don't run into it at Nats. :(

Dusknoir is still a big threat. I think you can work around it, though.

False? There's no single tech that takes out empoleon altogether.

I'd have to agree with this statement. I really feel Dusknoir is overrated. It is easily counter by just playing smart. If you play smart your fine, if you don't, then you deserved to have problems with it.
