Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Getting a friend involved in POP

I've got a 10 year old friend who is really into Pokemon. He loves the TCG and is a pretty good stratagist for a beginner. But, his parents don't let him play. They are very overprotective, and he's only ever gone to league once, and they always arange something else when he wants to go to an event. They aren't against Pokemon; they just don't want him "with those people" (they think everyone, including kids who play TCGs are kindof wierdos. The definition seems to gloss over their son though ).
They are justified in the fact that the only League in Victoria is pretty lousy. It's in a loud small room, the league leader doesn't stop the kids from ripping and stealing, and the league gets randomly canceled every now and then.

What do you guys think I could do to get him involved, and get his parents to losen up? He so wants to get involved, but know one listens to 10-year-olds, and he in't the most persistant. We've been trying for a while, but he's still young enough for the "Why don't we have a playdate this weekend?" or "We might let you get a (insert the name of a toy or stuffy collectable here)" phrases to make him completly forget.

Any ideas?

Well one thing is if he cannot go to a league, get him involved in Redshark. And the fact is, some leagues just aren't very good. The other option is to make a new league of course, but I don't know how doable that is, or if it would even change this kid's parents' minds.

Good idea, but...
1- When I said over protective, I mean OVER-PROTECTIVE, and ridiculously so. Apparently, his Wii is checked for spam, to give you an example. I wish RedShark was the answer.

2- Who would start a new league? I don't know a single cantidate, I'm only 14 (going on 15), and my mom or his parents would laugh us off if we asked them to do it. But the current league is lowsy, so a new one would work.

How about taking a few decks over to his house and play some games with him when his parents are around. If you can show them that it is a good, strategic game, you may convince them to loosen up about league. Ask the parents to play a game with you, and show them the way to play. If they enjoy it, they will let him do more.

I've done that ages ago, but they don't like the league, and they're that sort of parents.

Just convince the parents that Pokemon is good for your brain. It includes math and makes you think and makes your mind active and smarter. And tell them that it's just a fun hobby.

Point out the scholarships maybe? I've been in similar situations, but with very different types of parents, so I'm not sure what to do.

You may just sit down and talk with them. (sounds wierd, I know..) Tell them how strategic the game is and how much fun it is. Also, explain that the people aren't wierdos. Try to convince them that Pokemon is a great strategic and social game. Maybe even they could get in on it. GL!

As much as I find it hard to say, you CAN'T convince such kind of parrents.
Chances are big that they might take it the wrong way (Knowing such people myself) and think that you disaprove of the way they are raising there child.

And really, you do NOT want to do that because it WILL work against you as good as your intentions are.
