Top 64?

It seems very likely the masters division will hit the max 512. With that enormous amount of players, any chance we see a top 64? Obviously we haven't seen it before, but this would be THE tournament where it maybe should happen.

I really hope that they do top 64. Something needs to be done though. 32 is such a small top cut if its 512 players.

More than likely we will get a 10th round which will be our "top 64" I just got down with the yu-gi-oh Nationals this weekend 10 rounds, top 16, 627 players

What should I root for? Pegasus stole my grandpa's soul, but Kaiba cheated at a children's card game, and that's just unforgivable.

Top 16!!! GROSS!

(For reference, here's how the top cut would work in a nine round, maximum 512 person event:

1 9-0
9 8-1
36 7-2
49 6-3
21 5-4
Everyone else: 5-4, worse, or drop

# of 7-2's that miss: 14

With that in mind, here's my opinion...

RE Top 64: I love it, but tough to say if POP does. In addition to giving Americans a huge opportunity at points that other areas otherwise wouldn't have (Mexican/Canadian affirmative action), they've said time and time again that they would not do this. I'm holding out for the day they do, though, because big cuts are fun, and bring tons of credibility/prestige to the game (e.g. "WOW! Look at all those people!").

Here's how a top 64 would work, given the aforementioned approximation:

# of 7-2's that miss: ZERO
# of 6-3's that miss: 31

So basically, if you only lose two games at nationals, then you are rewarded with a top cut appearance. If you lost three and had good resistance, then it's your lucky day, because your schedule was tough...And if you didn't have good resistance as a 6-3? Well, then you didn't deserve to cut anyways.

RE 10th Round: once again, I am a huge advocate of the tenth round. While it might also complicate rating/ranking issues with Mexico and Canada, here's how things would (ideally) break down with a 10th round:::

1 10-0
4 9-1
23 8-2
4 7-3
Tons of 7-3's miss

OR...

6 9-1
22 8-2
4 7-3
Tons of 7-3's miss

Once again, nobody who lost two games is robbed of a top cut showing; however, unlike the top 64 -which is quite generous to three loss individuals- a tenth round would only recognize the absolute most deserving 7-3's of the day. If you are one of these four individuals, then you had an extraordinarily tough schedule, so go you!

Johnny uses hacking programs to figure everything out.

I would rather have a ten round cut to 32.

That wouldnt be any good. blehh.... It just makes it even harder to get in SE.

For the whole rankings junk, why don't we just not have the top cut matches count for rateing? This would allow for as big a top cut as needed, and would make it a lot more fun.

As great as a Top 64 would be, considering that there's going to be, more than likely, 500 or so people in the Masters, I don't see it happening. Ten rounds is probably the best thing that the age group will get, which isn't that bad, but I would think that a Top 64 would be more beneficial, because resistance matters FAR too much in this event, something that you can't control.

There is always the option to use Flights for a large group.
if attendance for master will be near to 500, a possible option would be 4 flights with max 128 at each flight.
this can result into a 7 round swiss and top8 of each flight going into top 32 overall (next day).

Until one flight gets stacked, how would you like to be in the same flight as Ballard, Chuck, Ness, Fulop. I can just imange the Sour Grapes comments now.

Only problem I see with pods is that you have to go perfect/near perfect on the day. I'm not sure if it would be easier to go 6-1 or 8-2 to get into the cut. Either one is really hard, but I think I'd rather have to go 8-2, it gives me two games where I can get a bad start.

ANYTHING is better than 9 rounds T32 though =\

You already have "one flight" with all those names and many more in it...its called NATS! There are going to be sour grapes threads NO MATTER HOW PUI does it. Why not give them some PROPS for what they do DO at Nats vs what they may not even be able to do (that many are asking for). There are time constaints and space constraints on the venue.
