After returning from Origins, I ended up scrambling to prepare for Nats since it was only a few days away from Origins. I flew to Vancouver on Friday and arrived at 1pm, and arrived at the hotel near 3pm after taking the bus and walking to the hotel. After ... you know what, forget all the long winded talk about the day before, let's just move on to the Nats itself since whatever I planned to say is boring anyways.
Round 1 - Costa A (Some random stuff thrown together, seriously)
Apparently it was his first time playing in a tournament, and he only had three Pokemon out and I just proceed to take down all his Pokemon quickly
1-0
Round 2 - Henry L (GG)
This was the first close game and we both went down to 1 Prize, but his lone Grimer is no match for my Gallade =/
2-0
Round 3 - Andrew P (Togekiss, Machamp, and Dugtrio)
He ended up going slightly ahead as he set up with Togekiss, Machamp, and Dugtrio. However, I managed to set up just as quickly and taking down his Pokemon one by one while I Dark Palm his excessive Pokemon away.
3-0
Round 4 - Terry Koehler (Magmortar/Togekiss)
Since we have played against each other so many times, he practically read me like a book and took down whatever I planned to bring up =/
3-1
Round 5 - Kasey P (Salamence EX/Togekiss)
I managed to set up very quickly, taking down/Dark Palming his Pokemon and forces him to attaching energies manually while I set up other Pokemon to attack. He managed to manually set up a Salamence EX and took down my Gardevoir LvX, then I sent out Gallade and used Sonic Blade. Then he took down the Gallade, but I have another Gardevoir ready and that seals the game for me
4-1
Round 6 - Gina L (Magmortar/Togekiss)
I had another good start and get out Gallade in Turn 2 and just proceed to take out his Pokemon, then I just keep Psychic Locking until I take my last prize.
5-1
After the Swiss Rounds, I am at 4th and in the playoffs ...
Top 16 - Andrew J (Empoleon/Bronzong)
Game 1 - Despite his strong start and keep spreading damage around, I keep taking down his Pokemon and took all 6 Prizes while he only took 3.
Game 2 - I managed to get a Gallade out Turn 2 and just literally rip through the game, then I just have Gardevoir to Psychic Lock until he decides to concede.
Top 8 - Alex d.C (Aggro GG)
Game 1 - We both ended up trading blow after blow until I have 1 Prize left, I ended up Cosmic Power'd for a Warp Point and took down his Ralts on the bench.
Game 2 - We both have Jirachi EX starts, I went first and used Call Energy. Then he attaches a ... Fighting Energy? I decided to attach a Psychic Energy to Jirachi EX and just been Locking him, he then proceeds to concede since he could not do much about me locking him.
After the Top 8, Mike delivered the good news that he won the Seniors Division. Then he left the tournament after the small ceremony.
Top 4 - Malcolm S-B (GG)
Sadly I had really bad starts and I decided to just fold =/
Me: "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who's the luckiest of them all?"
Magical Mirror: "It is not you ... sorry" =/
Me: "......" *smashes mirror*
Afterwards, I picked up my prizes and watch the Finals unfold. Then me, Matt, Geneses, Bidier, and Malcolm went out and eat, and we woke up at 5:45am on Sunday so we could head out for the airport at around 6:30. And I didn't make back to Toronto until 7:30pm due to the 2 hour delay =/ I guess now is the time to prepare for Worlds coming up in 6 weeks with plenty of rigorous playtesting ... and perhaps write an Origins report just for kicks.
Props:
- Chad, TRUK, Pramawat, Kettler, and others for helping me out. You people made my trips to Origins and Vancouver worth it and I will see you guys in Orlando.
- Kant for convincing me to go to Origins.
- Landing an invite for Worlds, a Wii, a box of MD, a trophy, and $750 ... I better not open another Porygon Z LvX from it.
- Getting 3 trophies for all 3 major tournaments in this year perhaps?
- pokemonmike for trading me a pack of damage counters + box for a mere 3 packs of Prerelease sleeves.
- The event for being well run and organized.
- Matt Koo for letting me staying in his room for free and lending his Jirachi EX to Mike (Rest assured, I will wring the Jirachi EX back from Mike)
- Mike for winning Nats in the Seniors Divison
- Bidier for driving us to the airport
- Meeting Sebastian Crema for the first time, and seeing Gordon and Mike again (ya happy now?)
Slops:
- The sleeves for bleeding colors >>;
- Kant for not going to Nats
- The total lack of sleep during that two days (combined 9 hours in two days)
- Me for being an idiot for walking all the way from the bus stop to the hotel instead of taking the #5 Robson bus.
- Terry for being such a "Ratings Burglar" by taking 30 points from me
- Gordon went 3-3
- Not T2ing to see if I can complete the curse
- The returning flight was delayed for 2 hours, so I was stuck in Vancouver Int'l Airport for 4 hours
