Recently, my wife purchased me a box of cards from a Flea Market. I scanned through them and noticed a lot of good cards, or so I thought. Upon closer inspection, they were fake cards.

Here are some notable examples:
Altaria - This card evolved from Loudred. I thought, at first, I actually got me a rare typo card.
Latios - The name on this card was Lation. This is the one that clued me in to fake.

After seeing this, I looked even closer. The fonts were slightly off, the color icons were a different size, the backs were a different shade of blue, and the card itself was about a milimeter larger in size. None of the cards that had holographic material on them were holographic (promo Dialga LvX). There were about 50 cards in the box.

There were several cards in this box that would have completed several evolution chains I had going, and this ****** me off even moreso.

The reason I say this is for you guys to be aware that the fakes are out there and people are trying to sell them as the real thing.

Anyway, that's my rant.

I figured she was getting a deal, maybe someone who was trying to get rid of them from their children or something, when she told me she only paid $4. That's the reason I'm not loosing any sleep over it.

Ok, I wouldn't worry about that then.
But it still would have been common courtesy to say "these are fakes, and pretty bad ones too".

Did the cards come in a tin by any chance? I was at a flea market a few days ago, and they had these really cool looking tins that had fake cards in them. I almost wanted to buy one just for the tin, because it had Luxray on it. If it weren't 5 bucks, I would have bought it.

can we see picks please

Well, I tried, but my camera would just not focus. Besides, the link that BJJ763 posted is identical to the cards I got.

As far as their box, it was even in the same type of box that was in the BJJ763 thread without the little seal.

I should get my wife to read that thread. She usually buys me cards at Flea Markets because I am usually working or busy doing something else when she goes.

I had a League have the same problem ( dont to those errors too ) i am currently sending them to PUI to have them investigated, what kind of packaging where they in? i got Legit looking box with some international info on it so i assume its forgien yet still english

Fake cards are out there, thats for sure. I tought my six year old how to spot them a few months ago. He came from from camp the other day and said his friend had pokemon cards, but most were fake. I saw the cards the next day, and indeed many were fake.

He can tell pretty easily from the size of the star in the retreat cost.

If anyone in the US wants a fake to compare, PM me your mailing address and I'll send you one, my treat. I have about 20.

Fakes will have the word 'FAKE' on it in magic marker and not be sent in a top-loader, just dropped in an addressed envelope.

Yeah, I live in Lancaster Pennsylvania and near me is this farmers market and a lot of Chinese people sell fake stuff like imitation iPods (all these kids were like: "Dang... that's a video iPod nano for 35 bucks!! lemme go get mom" and the fake iPods don't even have real click wheels that you scroll your finger on) :nonono:... they also sell tons of fake Pokemon cards. There must be like 10 different vendors selling them by boosters at $1 each. One guy even had complete boxes of fakes for $25 and they did a really good job faking the booster box. From what I can remember they were even shrink wrapped, but not with the logo stuff on the wraping.

There is only one guy at the place that sells legit cards.

fake tins appear over here aswell with dates years in advance eg 2010 pokemon tin my little sister got one of these on a day trip however i wasn't there and my mum doesn't know how to tell a fake one from a real one but my sister was happy as she uses the tin for bringing her cards(real ones) to the league

We had a fake Speed Stadium show up at league last week in a little kid's deck! We replaced it for him with a real one.
They sure are out there, and there's someone on Ebay currently selling the "Lation" as a "Rare Misprint".

There were about 20 fake cards found (Before the tornament) at a Battle Road I was judging. There were some good fakes and some obvius ones.
There was also a lady with her kid that came into my league with Chinese cards that were badly miscut and had over 1000 HP each. She kept arguing that they were real for the reason that "her husbend got them in China". She would not accept that they were fake even after all of the other people in my leage said they were. They never came back.
There is one good thing about all of these fake cards, it shows how popular the game is.

You can find non foil ex's in the Power Keepers box. We also have non foil level X's from the new box's. They sell them at most of the dollar stores here in D/FW area. Every once in a while the flea market in Grand Prairie gets raided but only for fake t shirts and cd's.

Fakes make good proxies and you don't put damage on the good cards. I think Prime gave me that one.

I had a fake card incident in a League this week. A player's grandmother bought a couple sealed packs of Majestic Dawn from a Walmart in South Carolina. After opening the packs, the player quickly noticed the cards were faked. First, Pokémon was spelled Pokemon. Second, the type face was more Microsoft Word. Third, a holographic card like Torterra was printed on a Shuppet card. Fourth, the card backing was lightly colored than normal cards.

Just last league I noticed the new kidsa all had tons of fakes. I gave them a mini lesson on how to tell. The backs were funny, the energy symbols were wrong, there was the wrong 'e', and none of them had propor holograpics. That was the first time I ever saw reverse holo ex cards.

I am sort of surprised at mistakes in font, energy symbols and such. I have never quite understood why fakers retype and place all of that, when they could just scan the cards in!

Does anybody know why?
