Prerelease Raichu vs. Worlds Winner cards?

Many people consider Prerelease Raichu to be the rarest card, as there are only an estimated 8 in existence. However, what about the cards that you get for winning Worlds? Wouldn't there only be 1 of each of these? Why would Raichu be worth more than these?

Interesting question.
Is the winners card different each year, or have they used the same one for multiple years?

I would assume it is different, especially considering the flip between Ex and Diamond and Pearl card setup. Even if it were the same, there has only been 4 Worlds, so there are still less.

WAIT A SECOND, I forgot to take into account the fact that there are 3 age divisions!!! That means there are THREE of each card, not one. Still, that is less than the Raichu, and this card is worth 5K apparently, while Raichu is estimated at 8K.

Okay, I got confirmation from Jeremy. In his words on AIM:

[09:38] Artisan Picora: oh yai think it did it was like
[09:38] Artisan Picora: if u have this card it means your going to worlds 2008

A "card" is a piece of cardboard. It is worth what a person is willing to pay for it.

I feel the Raichu gets the nod here. If nothing else, then for the "Urban legend" factor
it once had.

Until Pop got Boozer to open up about the card w/ his article, I bet 99% of you had never
seen one, and I know for sure a lot of members didn't believe the card existed.

Even now, how many collectors have actually seen one of these cards in person???
I've seen 2. That's it. I'm sure most of Team Compendium have seen the card in person
as well as some of the old school players, but it's not like the World's cards which I have
seen every one of.

One more thing, it really isn't possible to say which card is worth more- simply because
you have no basis to compare sales with . I have no idea what APT got for his cards, but
I'll use Drew's "guess-timate" on the value of a World's Winner Card. That was 5K.
Tell me this , what has a Raichu ever sold for? Anyone??

I saw Eric D. ( Pokedok) at
the 1st Nats. PUI ran in 04, asked him about his( yes, he owned one- I saw it in person.
He had a TON of amazingly rare Japanese trophy cards and old school Mega- Battle cards
at one time. If it was scarce, he had one!). He told me after wotc lost the contract, he moved
back to Magic and sold pretty much everything( wish i knew lol) . When asked about the Raichu, he
told me 10 K. Take that for what it's worth.

So to answer your question yoyoofsho, Raichu by a length . Maybe not even that close IMHO.

At least not until someone actually buys a Raichu - which i don't ever see happening.

Yeah, I've run this through my mind a few times... if there are three Worlds cards for each year and only an estimated 8 Raichus, then wouldn't the Worlds cards be rarer?

I guess it is just the mystery and unknown quantity behind the Raichus.

When I think about it, I'd rather have the Raichu. Wouldn't you? Yeah, the cards are worth what someone would pay for them as the_sniper said, not just how rarer they are (example: Charizard ex is as rare as any other ex from the set, but he's worth so much more), and I believe people would be willing to pay a lot more for the Raichu.

You are not the only one who wishes he gopt some of Eric's cards! He offered me a few but didn't have the money at the time....

I do believe each worlds winner gets 2 copies of the finalist card no? I may be wrong but I kinda thought they did.

While I think that if a Pre-Release Raichu went up it would outsell the Trophy Cards, I think that if more than 1 or 2 were listed you would see that the Trophy Cards would be worth more.

Here is the "breakdown" of placement promo cards that are given out at worlds if they have a T32.

3x #1 Trophy Card
3x #2 Trophy Card
3x #3 Trophy Card
12x Finalist Card (2 Per Player in T2)
18x Semi-Finalist Card (2 Per Player in T4, 1 Per Player in T2)
36x Quarter-Finalist (2 Per Player in T8, 1 Per Player in T4, 1 Per Player in T2)
72x Top Sixteen (2 Per Player in T16, 1 Per Player in T8, 1 Per Player in T4, 1 Per Player in T2)
144x Top Thirty-Two (2 Per Player in T32, 1 Per Player in T16, 1 Per Player in T8. 1 Per Player in T4. 1 Per Player in T2)

Hope that helps,
Drew

Don't hold your breath on that one. I doubt we will ever see one sell. Maybe, but has yet to
happen( on E-bay anyways).

Even if 2 did pop up Drew, you would be talking scary money IMHO. 8 of them, and remember who
has the 8. So many worlds cards have exchanged hands, yet I know of ONE of these cards
that was sold( see above post) ONE. Anybody else know of one exchanging hands???

Imagine what Dpersian would pay for the one card he doesn't have in english? Or Davethere?

I don't think the value is even close- considering the circumstances the Raichu was originated
and obtained.

You could win yourself a worlds winner card this year Drew, good luck getting a Raichu.
