A little idea I had.

Since Custom avatar day finally came around, it gave me a great idea.

It's really nice to see all the new creative avatars, and it makes me really wish we would be allowed to change them when ever we wanted. Now I under stand the problems with this, but here's where my idea comes into play.

Have a Good Member thing, that makes it so good posters that have a good rep on the gym and have been on it for at least a yr or so can change there avatars as often as they want, or at least more then once a yr. I know as a fact that this would inspire me to make sure my posts were good. lol

Since its a lot of fun to come up with cool new avatars, but you can only have 1 at a time, and for the gym, only 1 per custom avatar day, this would really be a great reward for all the dedicated good posters on the gym. I would really love for this to be taken into serious consideration.

I would even be willing to help mod something like this if it ever happens.

Actually if there was a way to store like (2) or (3) custom avatars within your profile, so you could switch between the saved avatars, I would like that a lot, it allows for some freedom between avatar days, however I don't think there is way to do that.

Yeah, that is a good idea. What drives me to want to keep all my posts informative and friendly is that I want to reapply to be a moderator in a little less than 5 months...

I'm sure it would motivate and be an affective tactic.

I would post much better here if there were a reward like that.
I know I am already going to be doing that, as my new avatar is just sooo cool.
Thank you Pokegym!

I don't speak for the Staff, but I personally don't see this happening.

The custom avatar day is a reward for everyone on the good side of the rules at the time of the event. Staying on the good side is always a good thing to do, but we have the ability to give bans, both temporary and permanent, to those that decide to break the rules.

The reason I really do not see having multiple avatars is the lack of being able to view those that are uploaded, but not used.

For those that use custom avatars, you just have to make sure that you like your avatar, both today and a month down the road, and that it follows the rules.

I've had this same idea, or a similar idea for a long time, but you know, SD_PokeMom made the best comment towards it. Posters should try to make good posts normally. Why reward people for posting good posts when they should be posting good posts and abiding by the rules in the first place?

You also get into the whole definition of "good posts" and people having leverage over the staff because they have the "right" to always change avatars.

Also, you can't say that people with "good posts" won't upload bad avatars. Sure, they might not upload porn avatars or anything, but who says they won't upload an avatar that might be rude towards a certain group of people, even if they don't know it? That is why it is easier to moderate all the custom avatars (over 200 easily) once a Custom Avatar Day. It'd be so much extra work to have to look over all the hundreds of custom avatars everyday to make sure someone didn't upload a rude, mean, not pg13 avatar.

This will never happen.

That would be nice, but I don't see that ever happening.
I am sure this kinda thing has been said before, but Custom Avatar days are so rare I doubt they would change it now.
Now what they need is for someone to make some new avatars, because the old ones are becoming just old and boring.

i think pokegym let pokemon cosplayers use that as their avatar :(
"generally not accepted" is soo vague..

Great Idea

In my own opinion, most of the current custom avy rules are just plan silly.

I don't see the big deal really. If you follow the rules you get rewarded. Be thankful they even have a Custom Avatar Day. One possible reason to why it's only one day out of the year is that the Admins have to make sure all the custom avatars are site appropriate.

if you don't like the custom avatar rules, be sure to go thank the people who necessitated their implementation in the first place: the people who posted photographs from pr0n sites and images referencing sexual assault in order to promote their 'teams' the last time we offered custom avatar uploads.

as quoted above: why do we have to REWARD people for just following the rules of the board? the default behavior of board members should be 'good': and if you follow the rules of the board you're rewarded with a custom avatar when we open up uploads.

if you don't follow the rules, you don't get that privilege...but now that's not enough? people now have to be *encouraged* to make 'good posts', and the 'carrot' now has to get bigger? good behavior in of itself is no longer valued, but only if one gets something for it?

wow. and people wonder why we don't do this more often...especially when clearly stated rules aren't followed, and are going to result in the loss of some of those shiny new avs soon...

'mom

What about your avatar, Prime?! It has crosses on it, therefore it might be insulting to Christians.

Jk. Aha.

But seriously, I think that this would be cool, but I doubt its "happening-ness."
Not only is it for all of the reasons above, but doesn't it also waste the time of all the people who help make the avatars that are built into Pokegym already?

And when would they hold Avatar contests if everyday was Custom Avatar Day?

I agree. It seems like she's [Pokemom] more rude than all of the other moderators. Like when she locks threads and stuff.

WOAH WOAH WOAH. That is RIDICULOUSLY uneccessary!!

Where did that have to come from?!?!
She is just explaining why things are the way they are! I didn't find anything rude about that post at all!
She is absolutely right! Maybe everyone here is thinking, "I wouldn't do anything like that, so why does it matter?", but there will ALWAYS be just a few, or maybe even one person who breaks those rules and spoils it for everyone.

PokeGym, unlike a lot of other forums, has no restrictions on what age you must be to be a member, that is why they are so kid-friendly. It isn't rudeness, they are doing what is right for the Pokemon community, which sees no need for any vulgar usage.

Therefore, if one person, JUST ONE PERSON, posts a pr0n picture or something, there is chaos. Some of the users might be as young as 9 or something, and if they see that, there will be chaos, even if it is just up for a short time before someone takes care of it, the PokeGym's reputation will be somewhat tarnished to parents who see said picture.

Mods lock threads because some people can't follow the rules, you could change that by following them.

As for rudeness, you have no business saying who is and who isn't rude, McCloud, I thought that was a very rude remark. Pokemom and the other administrators work hard to keep the Gym what it is.

And why is it that a day after you get the privelage to have a custom avatar AT ALL, you all start attacking the people who gave you that privelage in the first place?!

If I'm not going to get the custom avatars why should I be grateful that they offer them at all?
Next one won't be for another two years, and I really won't be surprised if either A) I don't visit this site anymore, or B) I continue to get as many infractions for bologna reasons and end up getting life banned or something.
I don't care if theres a bunch of new mods, thats great, but when they all realize "hey I can ban people" and all go crazy with it, then it's kinda a hassle. There were very few of the new mods that didn't go points crazy.
You were one, congratulations on not abusing your power, Secrets.

30 random people a day are mods? Wow, maybe I haven't been paying enough attention. On a site that has as many people as this one does.....mods are needed. Now, for those of us who recently got promoted...we weren't "randomly chosen." We were people that obeyed the rules, had minimal amounts of infractions, and gave back to the community. People applied for the positions, and were chosen based on credentials and past performance. We aren't letting things slide nearly as much now, correct, but at the same time, there are more of us to catch these things.

Some sites never allow you to have a custom avatar, ever. You should be thankful that there are ever custom avatar days on this site.

More mods=more points=better behavior in my book. However, I do dislike how I have to be really careful about the wording of my posts. I cannot call people whiners even if they are complaining, instead I have to act like they have a valid point when they do not. That really bugs me.

There are also sites that allow you to always have custom avatars, and the rules about the avatars are laid out clearly and everybody generally follows the rules. For those people who don't, there are moderators.

I think that rewarding good behavior with a permanent custom avatar privilege would be a good thing. While you should be good anyway, it never hurts to reward people. Maybe having contests to give out custom avatar privileges or a way to argue for your avatar if it needed some explanation would help.

I mention this because I think that masterofpuppets' avatar took a lot less effort to figure out what it was (a metagross face) than empoleonperson's (supposedly a lugia, but I doubt it).
