Well, I'll start off with the spoiler:

Starmie LV.39 – Water – HP80
Stage 1 – Evolves from Staryu

[W] Star Boomerang: 30 damage. You may return Starmie and all cards attached to it to your hand.
[P] Core Flash: Does 50 damage to 1 of your opponent's Pokemon that has any Poke-Powers or Poke-Bodies.

Weakness: Lightning (+20)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 0

OK, so let's break this thing down.

Type- Water ain't a bad type since Kingdra will be so dominant. But at the same time due to the overhyping of Kingdra there will more than likely be some Lightning decks to try and counter it. So good and bad in a way.

HP- 80 for a stage 1 isn't bad, but it could be better.

Weakness- As mentioned above, could be good or bad, we have to wait and see if lightning pokemon will be viable.

Retreat- What's NOT to love about free retreat? Really great!

So, overall, decent stage 1 stats. Now, onto the attacks!!!!

Water Boomerang
- 1 for 30 on a stage 1. Once again, decent. BUT, let's look at its second effect. You can return Starmie back to the hand with all cards attached to it. SO, almost like rapid spin except it leaves play. Doesn't seem THAT great at first, but it actually is an EXTREMELY useful effect. As ruled with Crobat (MT), all cards attached to it INCLUDES Pluspowers, TMs, etc. So, now let's take a look AGAIN.

Possibility to do 70 for 1, while sending up a new Pokemon AND returning the Pluspowers back to hand.
Yes, your hand is vulnerable to Wager, but still, I'd rather have my Pluspowers back in the deck than in the discard. AND, let's not forget, Wager+Psy Lock won't be as big next format SO we can worry a little less about being Wagered every single turn. Combine your 4 Pluspowers with 4 Bucks and you have a Stage 1 that is dishing out MASSIVE DAMAGE (up to 80) for 1 energy over and over again.

Let's also look at another great combo with it: Palkia Lv. X. Palkia Lv. X has a hefty 120 HP for a basic Lv. X AND it has an AMAZING power that acts as a double gust. Being able to lock a Claydol in while you own their bench with Starmie's second attack is AMAZING. AND, this is where Starmie's free retreat become even more useful. Your opponent will almost always send up the Pokemon with the highest retreat, BUT what if you have ONLY Starmies/Chatots on your bench? Well, it essentially acts as a gust of wind. Then, you bring up Starmie, and either snipe away with the second attack or Boomerang away with those Pluspowers, promoting Palkia Lv. X right after, so you can repeat the combo. Palkia Lv. X has to absorb the damage, but it should still be able to take a couple hits before you have to get a second one out.

Now, the second attack:

Core Flash - 1 for 50 snipe to any Pokemon with a Pokepower/body!! Wow!! That's a REALLY nice attack for a stage 1. Snipe a Claydol for 50, or hit any of the Pixies for 50 for 1!! That's REALLY good. Combine with the combo listed above with Palkia Lv. X and drag out the Pokemon with the highest retreat and then just keep on sniping away, and you can make an entire deck out of Starmie. This second attack really makes it playable as a tech though.

Starmie has been my favorite Pokemon ever since Buizel came out, SO I am simply in love with this card, and the fact I can devote an entire deck to it makes me even more excited! I can't wait to get my hands on 4 of these babies.

Let's hear what y'all have to say about this card.

The card is pretty sick. I expect that it will see a lot of play since it has two awesome attacks that a relatively cheap to use. :thumb:

As I said in the thread found in the deck area, a single Wager can destroy any boomerang combos you have. Every deck I make for next format runs 2-2 Claydol and 3 Wager. Expect a lot of wager. Also, the pokemon you replace it with is vulnerable to an attack the next turn. Also, 80 damage isn't MASSIVE anymore, gotta say. 80 doesn't KO many stage 1s now, or basic lv.Xs.

I don't see a point in this thread. You're just restating exactly what that deck thread said; Starmie/Palkia lv.X/Chatot.

For Starmie's second attack, it's decent, but it won't win you games. I've been testing the new Gengar from IDFS, which can hit anything with a poke-power for 60 for one energy too. Slightly higher damage. I had many problems not being able to OHKO stuff and that stuff OHKO'ing me. Starmie has an even harder job because it has less HP than Gengar; 30 less to be exact. Like I said earlier, 80 damage isn't hard to come by now, and 80HP stage 1's are going to be hurting a bit next format because of it.

Starmie is a very decent card, but in no way can a deck be made around, imho. It's just too fragile, and does too little damage. 1 energy attacks are fantastic, but I'd rather have a Beedrill doing 90-120 damage for 1 energy active, or Kingdra doing 60 and sniping for 20 for 1, or even have a Leafeon with Sceptile out doing 130+ damage for 1 grass energy on itself. I feel Starmie would go best with another attacker that could do the big damage when needed, and sweep the board after Starmie has laid some damage beforehand.

tech in a mothim so the grass decks can't resist you and you'll be on your way. Bad thing is 80HP is well within the OHKO range, high HP pkmn can be a problem if they are able to OHKO. I really like the starmie + palkia lv. x idea neat, however, Starmie's 80 HP is too low to base a deck around, the attacks aren't high enough to make up for it, even with the plus power idea. It's too hard to have/keep 4 plus powers in your hand with the wagers and cosmic power. High HP, High Dmg output, and Speed are whats going on, starmie isn't really any of those :(

Only problem with starmie is that it needs a power/body on your opponent's pokemon to be able to snipe it. That might be a big problem because against decks like kingdra it won't do much.

But lots of decks will have body/powers in the next format.
And its lack of HP could be a problem too.

It's an alright card, I guess. Too specialized for my taste. I could see it as a tech in decks that could use a limited sniper, but I just can't envision a deck being built around it.

Yep it's a great card, however it all sounds nice but it will thake you up a turn to get all the starmie's going and with the new valley that does 10 dmg when you place a basic pokemon it could be dangerous to put it in the hand and on the bench over and over again. Still I really like the fact that it will be able to always give you a bench free and actually free retreat and all heal.

All in all, it's a great card but remember doing up to 80 for 1 energie is great, but remember sometimes you need to domore dmg than that ;)

I believe Miasma Valley (DP6 theme deck) deals 20 damage to each non-psychic and non-grass basic that is laid onto the bench (both players).

Yeah it does.

I really think that a whole deck could be based around Starmie it is that good IMO.

It can also be a great sniping tech in a deck like Froslass/Spiritomb/Bronzong.
