So far, I've only heard that Junichi Masuda will be there. I haven't heard anything about any artists attending yet.

Awesome! I'm looking forward to this. I've never met any card artists before.

Not an artist. Think he does the music for Pokémon games

EDIT: By artist here, I mean doesn't illustrate cards. Obviously

Yes. Though he's more of a producer now. Most of the DP music was written by Go Ichinose and Hitomi Sato.

Really? Lately his art on the cards look like concept art with invariably bad backgrounds (I do like the Pokémon on their own though). DP art has been disappointing. What happened to the EX style awesomeness?

Same here. All his cards have been really boring. Even if its just the pokemon, its not really art, its just a well... pokemon. lol His art is good for saying, thats what a Pikachu looks like or thats what a Charizad looks like, but they never are doing anything exciting, and the backrounds suck. >_> If you noticed he did a lot of the cards in DP and that set probably has the most boring art work of any set out there. I know the pictures don't have anything to do with the card, but if I have a powerfull cool card, I want it to look it.

That is what his art is. He does the offiical artwork for the Pokemon.

Yeah but concept art is not the same as cool card art.

Wow, you are exactly right... my heart died a little with all the lame DP art, it had me so excited for a new era of Pokémon brilliance. Guess we were just too spoiled after the recent EX sets. But I don't get why, I mean a lot of the artists are the same.

Plus, the promos have been really bad too...

LOL, if it helps I had to google his name!

Most Sugimori cards are stock images with random backdrops.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

I want Ken Sugimori to be there ! [LOL] I love his artwork!

Donezator

You better, he helps design the monsters.

You have to love Sugimori for the fact that someone will describe to him an idea for a pokemon, and he makes it. Generic as they are, everyone else must comply to his designs.

I like his work, just not when they're used as card art... other artists manage to be creative with his designs.

I don't even think he designs for the cards, its just someone takes his Pokémon drawing and randomly assigns a background for it. He gets credit because... well who's gonna take credit for those lame background drops?

I thought Ken Sugimori created the Pokemon and made up the official art for them, right? The official art prints are generally just generic photos of the pokemon, and lots of times are very similar to the videogame sprites. I don't know if he does work for the cards as well, but needless to say it isn't good to just take those images of the official prints and just paste those onto a random background. That isn't technically art when any guy with editing software can do it. I do like most of the Lv.X cards though.
