Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Winner: Jason K

What's so wrong about appluading at a tails flip? Jason is on Lafonte, and is an American, and us proud Americans want to root for the American to win Worlds- and who better than Jason, to solidify himself as the world's greatest player and the world's greatest player being an American. Applauding at a tails flip is akin to applauding at a good hand- it's just luck and it's applauding good luck. No different than when people cheer in poker when the cheering group got a nice card or turn of events. It's not insulting to anyone so why would anyone need to be banned for life? That's completely absurd. People applauded good luck coming to someone they wanted to win worlds... get over it.

Congratulations to everyone, with a special congratulations to Jason (who won't read this) for winning worlds for the 3rd time now. 2nd under PUI. In masters. A true legend.

I cant understand how someone would think it's perfectly ok to disrespect a player like that. Not only does it make the player feel bad and degrade them in such a manner. I think that this is just horrible and this is one of the reasons Americans have such bad reputations internationally.

When you say Americans, do you mean us in general or American Pokemon players?

Whats more, Jason or any other well known player should not feel pressured to play a less obvious or more creative deck if they believe they have a winning version of something popular.

The Norwegian player was a really nice guy, he beat me top 4. Every European player I met at worlds was a pleasure to play against, even so far as to say they made a point of treating me with great respect. They would see me later in the weekend and enthusiastically be interested in how I was doing in the event. Special props go to Mauro B (Italy) and Karl P (Germany) for playing flawlessly, being great sports, and playing innovative decks.

I didn't go this year, but I would assume that people were Cheering for Jason. JASON, not the some American.

Ness is one of the best PERSONS in the game. For the people who know him, and I would predict that 95% of the people watching the match, knew Jason personally, and truely like him, because that the type of person he is.

Do you know about last years World's Make-A-Wish match that Jason did?

People like Jason. Imagine the exact opposite of Barry Bonds of Baseball. Bonds is great, but everyone hates him personally. Ness is great, and everyone loves him. Way to go Ness!

Pokemon TCG Master's Division is NOT the place to be if you're looking for politeness, humility, or kindness. Sure, you will find it. There are a lot of good people in the game at that level.

But there are a lot of bad attitudes, too. Always have been, always will be. That's one of the reasons I took 2008 off, for the most part. I just couldn't handle it anymore. Booing a competitor? C'mon, that's ridiculous.

But the people who do it don't care at all. They're living with a different set of morals, and I've long since stopped trying to change them.

Strait Blissey is exactly what you think it is--Blissey. Nothing else. Just Blissey. Maybe some random starters, I don't know how they've been playing it the last half of the season.

If I recall, Khanh Le's deck had chatot as a starter/hand refresher also. Others also had absol to go along with the cess lock.

Jason's was no ordinary GG. His was interesting. he won his game against Gino because he had teched in a Jolteon* to do 10, and then LB'd Gino and Psychic Locked his Gallade FTW. It was a great play.

There is no interesting version of the deck, and yes I know what techs he used. im not going to rip the guy for playing GG, hes the best player in the game and I look up to him....

I am just saying, I wish it was an actually "interesting" deck, absol ex, jolty*, Jirachi ex(cards I imagined he teched in) isnt interesting.

but congrats to Jason K for destroying everyone and proving hes the best player the game has ever seen!

Jason's game 3 against Geno in the top 4 was the undisputed best played game of Pokemon I've seen in my life, and I've been playing against and watching the best play since the game premiered. At every single point in that game I would have bet my $100 that Geno was going to win. Geno was up so much material on every turn it was looking to be a complete blow-out. Jason told me himself the only reason he kept playing for the off-chance that Geno did something illegal and got a game loss.

Jason just kept fighting and somehow found a way to pick up the last couple of prizes out of seemingly nowhere. Jason's fist pump after doing 130 to Geno's undamaged Gallade for the last prize and the roar of the crowd was amazing. It gives me chills just thinking about it. There were easily hundreds of people watching the game and they all went absolutely crazy when Jason won. He high-fived me so hard that my hand was tingling for an hour after the game.

I think this says two important things about the game:

1) There is an obvious demand for people watching top Pokemon players battle on the highest stage. Nats and Worlds should be more accomodating to those who want to watch. Yes, the finals match on the big screen was very, very nice; unfortunatly the games were lop-sided as Jason ran a ton of counters to Beach/Cess, knew the match very well, and was lopsided in his favor due to type advantage (Blissey is weak to Gallade, Claydoll and Dusknoir resists).
2) It showed the skill and raw emotion in the game. This game is incredibly skillful and I think this Worlds illustrated it in a big way. Not only does having a repeat champion show that these tournaments aren't a crap-shoot, but the amazing top 4 game between Jason and Geno will go down as a defining moment on how good the top players can play. It also showed how exciting and emotional games of Pokemon can be. The roar of the crowd and the emotion Jason showed after beating Geno (and him being misty-eyed after winning the finals) further illustrates the depth this game has.

Jason winning the way he did says volumes of good things about the game. This victory may be a watershed moment in the future of Pokemon TCG!

I agree with Moss completely. Jason is an incredible player and absolutely the best player in the World. He also went out of his way to take several pictures and conduct interviews with several people. Jason is an amazing icon for our game and we should all be extremely proud to have him as our World Champion. A thrilling end to a GREAT weekend.

Supporting your friend and your country is fine. But some consideration for the feelings of the guy actually doing the flipping would have been nice. =/

I'm just going to go ahead and post what Moss and I were talking about on AIM regarding the booing/cheering. Look, get over it. Have any of you ever gone to a sporting event? The trash fans say to the players and opposing fans would mess you all up! A little bit of cheering and booing isn't the end of the World at a Pokemon event. In fact, I think the emotional reaction by the crowd is a GOOD thing for the game as it demonstrates passion! That's something that everyone should have for this incredible game!

Cheers and jeers are a part of any competitive event. If you're going to have people watching, they're going to take sides and that's a fact of life. I echo Chad's point that having a crowd get into the game like that is extremely good for the game.

Jason and his finals opponent were very friendly and actually met once in swiss before the finals. It was not a hostile match at all and anyone there watching could vouch for that.

Furthermore I believe that this settles the dispute that Ness is truly the one true leader of the great Lafonte Nation!

SotG allows one to cheer a good move/result, including missing a crucial ER2 flip. Booing is inexcusable IMO.

As for the T4 match, Gino v Jason was top notch play. That should have been the game on the big screen. (If 20/20 hindsight is allowed) You could cut the tension in the air with a knife. Every move was calcated and when Jason hit the last piece of the winning move, the fist pump was classic. Gino wasnt sure what hit him for a few secs bc he didnt realize the jolt * was dropped and the lock w/ LB only did the 120 to his clean Gallade (130 HP). He never saw the out move coming.

"Michael Phelps has a picture of Jason on his wall"
-Matt Moss

I think that will stand as my favorite comment about Jason ever.

You know what, this is an event. We pay money to go here and are I believe we are all entitled to our opinion and should be allowed to express ourselves to a certain degree. Booing is not going to kill anyone. My opponent and his friends have got up and cheered before when I've been defeated in a top cut this very year. I've seen it both ways. Saying you shouldn't be able to boo someone or something when it would be advantageous to your friend is ludicrous. That's like saying everyone should hush down at an NFL game when the opponent is in their own endzone just so they can get a play off. It's part of the game. Passion in this manner shouldn't be a crime.

Booing: I thought that was supposed to indicate disaproval of some sort, typically associated with someone doing something wrong or poor sportsmanship. To boo when the otherside makes a good move? Hmmm  Pokemon is not USA vs the rest.

Great performance by both Jason, and Khanh Le. No need to boo. JMHO.

I hope that it will be possible to have more than just the three finals on the screens in future. Maybe even a live feed of some sort?
