There's no state championship in WV, mostly due to the fact that there's not much Organized Play yet. There was a league in Morgantown, and I ran a City Championship there once, but it's really too far for me to travel (about 4 hours from Cleveland).

If you are serious about it, then the best thing you can do is run a league, get more players, run tournaments, try to expand Organized Play in your area. It takes a lot of hard work, but if you can build up the OP, you can get there. That's how every state got going - through the hard work of the League Leaders and Tournament Organizers in those areas.

You don't have to do everything yourself - get your friends and the players parents to help, and find store owners who are interested. You want to build a network of people who can run leagues all around the area so you don't feel like you have to do everything yourself.

Good luck!

There used to be a league here about 20 minutes away from where I live. I didn't find out about it until it was too late. I attended for about 3 months before it turned into a yugioh league. I went through the ranks fairly quickly, obtaining about 5-6 badges, and I became "Brock". I was probably 13-14 years old. Now, I'm turning 20 in a little more than a week, also, I'm a major in Business/Management, so maybe that will help a little bit in getting a league running. I've got an application in to start a league at go-pokemon.com. Also, anyone who is a league leader may be able to help me out on this. Do they send you the books/badges and what not? or do you have to pay for it? I'm on a fairly limited income, I mean, I am a college student after all!

West Virginia is not alone in its quest...

I believe there are a number of states that need to get more going, and then to get States, Cities, Battle Roads and other recognition.

Should I call some of them out?? Yep!

Arkansas...brother you are my neighbor to the South..if Alabama has started, why not you?

Nebraska...my other neighbor. Come on guys...get it back together.

South Dakota...Let's go..I KNOW there are cities big enough to get this rumbling..

North Dakota...If South Dakota can get going, how about you??

Hawaii...we give you Worlds, and you can't even repay us with STATES??

Alaska...some one as big as you are should not be called out by me...

Montana...just about as big...come on, show me you are just as pretty!!!

Away we go!

Trust me Meganium, if there is any way i can get this rolling, I will! Other than those, there are about 40 other states with tournaments. I know there are pokemon players here, but unfortunately I am too far away from the 2 major cities in WV (Charleston, Huntington) to make waves....but, Parkersburg is a fairly big city, so, I'm going to give it a legit shot.

Parkersburg could be helpful. I go to school in Southern Ohio, and Parkersburg is about 45 min away from us. Try and give it a shot, you never know what you might get.

wait, what school do you go to?

I'm in Williamstown, WV. if you've heard of that. right across the bridge from Marietta, OH

One of my best friends go there, i know its a big school, so i doubt you know him. but yeah, i'm at WVU-p at the moment. anyway, I'll send lucario a PM, maybe we can get something together =p

We have a small but respectable OP following here in PIttsburgh. The PA state championship was more than four hours away from here, and the OH one is almost three, so I doubt that any of our local players made a showing. Even the next-closest Cities and BRs are about 2.5 hours away. Morgantown is just so much closer... establishing some Premier events there would almost certainly draw some Pittsburgh folks, and it's still within reach for particularly ambitious Ohio players.

There are a few WVa players (Lucario ex, most notably) who travel frequently to Fairfax for my events there. I assume that WVa is just too darn far for the OH PTOs, PA PTOs, KY PTOs, MD PTOs and me to get to, sorry!!!!

but, Parkersburg is a fairly big city, so, I'm going to give it a legit shot.
One family from Parkersburg came up to the Cuyahoga Falls prerelease last weekend, so there's someone right there!

Good luck with your league, if you decide to start one. Make sure you advertise online, and see if any local stores will let you leave flyers so the kids will find you. It takes awhile to build up attendance, but it's worth it!

You're trying to steal our WV player? She's more or less Virginian now, you can't have her

@totoro: I think Kevin is the closest PTO to WV than anyone else

Don't worry, Shadowcard, we're on opposite edges of the state. He can't steal me.

Kevin's not a PTO, just a TO.

Good luck, Ninjask161, several leagues have started and immediately died. Maybe yours will be the first stable one.
