Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2009 US Nationals

Hey, this is Darrell Moreno. I want to congratulate all the National champions, especially Pooka. I wish I could've given you better, more epic games. That's how the cards draw sometimes. Anyways, you deserve the 2009 title more than anyone. Your deck was very fast, smart and aggressive, as well as your play style. I look forward to playing you again in the future. Well played!! :)

Just out of curiosity, how did the great Florida players (besides my homie Benji  ) do?

Also, were there any notable results by women or girls?

Stephen Silvestro went fairly deep with Beedrill, and Orion Craig went far with an SP build, all from Florida. As for girls, Emily and Tracy both did very well, I believe making top 32?

I liked it there but the vendors where kinda jerks and I watched a kid get ripped off by them.
Kid in front of me asked for a card and named it by name. (It was a lvl.x)
Guy said okay $20.
Kid gives him money.
He hands over Japanese card.
Kid says I need english.
Guy says sorry that one is $35.
Kid asks for money back.
He says sorry no refunds.
What the Heck!
It was a kid!

I can say I am not buying form them again.

He would but he's too humble. He did a real good job and im proud of em! Earlier this season when he won a states/regionals I knew he was going to do something special. I wouldnt be suprised if he carries it all the way to worlds like I did last year. Congrats to pooka though he's a good player and he deserved the win. Congrats to everyone at nationals 2009 who participated in the largest and hardest nationals EVER!!!

No I am not.
I wish I had a choice of vendors.
The kids mom was mad.
If I had already not bought my stuff I would have not bought from them.
I hate people who take advantage of kids.

Dude.... It may have went down like that... but I seriously have problems with thinking Jason (or G.Grounds) would do that to anyone.... I went in there several times and bought cards. Each time I was waited on by a different helper and EVERY time I asked for a card they offered up my choice of Holo or Regular for the same price listed on the boxes. They even tossed in an extra yummy for my kid with the Plushes, etc that I bought..... The price difference between the languages is understood, but if it went down like that, I'm sure GG would correct it.... Everyone was worried with the volume of cards they would have..... I didn't hear a soul mention they ran out of anything.....

This really needed to goto another thread...

Nats was good, a decent number of SP decks went 3 G and almost all ran ditto tech against flygon. SP was the play by far. Guess it helps that our nats is last.

I know what you mean. I was handled by another guy and he even held the stuff till I could find a ATM since there they could not take Debt because the machine was broken.
They had great prices and items to boot but that was a real turn off for me.
I take back my vendors where jerks.
Just that one event turned me away.

There is wisdom in here....... I know more than a few players (at least 4 of whom top32'd) who after extensive testing all week rebuilt 24-48 hours before and dropped the lamentable ape.

B

Whom?! I thought you were a teacher!

A free reversal with nice typing and cheap attacks fits in any deck.

Steven Silvestro, Sean Connelly, and Marty Schmidt all made top 32. I made top 64. Jim Roll, Ryan Vergel, and a few others made top 128.

Still looking for finals standings postings. Pete said he would see if he could get them posted on the official site... but I can't find 'em.

Heh just to pop this in about the vendor at nats.
One guy in our group bought a *** Gold Video game for $10 and (They also have Green/SIlver too) and it turned out to be a boot leg.
I think they need to give us a choice of vendors next year.
Also any possible way to contact that vendor?
Fair warning to them since selling those could get them in big trouble.

Two 'Unknowns' from Florida made it to Top 32 as well. (Sorry, I didn't see Apache Prime's earlier post.)

Sean Connelly
Martin A Schmidt (me!)

(It definitely helps when you get constant tourney experience against the Silvestros, the Rolls, Chris B, Omar, Ryan V and Aaron Curry.)

Ben knocked me out and made it to T8 so I have no regrets.

It was a great weekend and event.

(So at 50 YOA am I the oldest to make T32?)

I Suppose we are "Unknowns" although perhaps not anymore :D It was amazing to watch as the people who had previously all but ignored me, congratulate me and start conversations.
Florida really represented this year. Many a top 32, 64, and 128, and most of hail from the league of Curry. It seems like the title "Mr. Florida" might be the third most prestigious title to obtain.
I too come with no regrets having lost to Anthony after some close games (He won first by getting the lock first, i won second my going second, and thus locking first, he won third by going second and pulling off an amazing series of shenanigans that i simply couldn't compete with:pokeball:)
