Gyrados build question

I see Gyrados builds without Claydol. I can understand why you don't need the draw power, but what does one do with all the trainers supporters in the hand? How do you play like that against Gengar?

It's not impossible to beat Gengar... I only played against it once at a Premier Tournament so I don't have much room to talk (I won it), but if you play like 2 Devoluters you can catch 'em off Guard (Pun intended). This allows you to get a prize ahead, so even if they hit the rest of their Fainting Spells you literally win if they don't take another prize off of something else. Just watch for Relicanth, or let them play down the first BTS. If you get them 50 HP or below, don't be afraid to drop a Sableye and KO them if you can switch out. This saves your resources, and you hardly lose much if they KO Sableye.

But anyways, Rogue Archetype played against like ALL Gengars at Nats and won them all. Hopefully he sees this thread, so he can share his secret... lol.

EDIT: R_A beat me to it, lol.

My build was NOT French Gyrarados though. So, I couldn't begin to tell the bandwagon how to beat Gengar because they're all running an entirely different deck than my Nats thing :/

Oh? This is news to me... mind sharing what kind of Gyarados build you actually played?

It was rogue

I became disgusted by the attitude of the French guys and their friends when I mentioned I created a Gyarados build before worlds and they were all like 'RA DIDN'T CREATE NOTHING... we top cut worlds, so OURS is the ONLY build that matters.'

So, i don't really speak of it anymore... lol

I'll just tuck it away for a rainy day until everyone stops teching for it...

BUT... to answer the guy's question above.

You need to RUN UXIES strong (like 3 or 4) with Experts belts so you can KO the Gengars and get around Fainting Spell. Gyarados will do 90. Then you switch out to uxie for the Restore KO.
Use switches instead of Warps and you're teched :)

How does this help the fact that I will get Poltergeisted for about 9000? Its not that I can't one shot Gengar, its that I need to keep Pokemon Rescue and a Gyrados (or Bebe) in my hand at all times, so Rowan and Cynthia's don't work. without Claydol, my hand gets bigger and bigger.

^regice or registeel can remedy that situation. Just throw away what you don't need.

I thought I said that?

You're right though FunnyBear, we need to sorta focus here...

Felicity's Drawing is already in the deck
Regice/Registeel is already in the deck
Don't forget, if you're NOT going to run Claydol, a couple of Night Teleporters may help immensely.

(I'd run that Claydol and attach Unown G though)

Problem does arise though: Unown G on Claydol and the mandatory Broken Time-Space for Gyarados to constantly be in play are fuel for Relicanth. Also, Regi-ice/steel are liabilities due to them having Powers. So either you bite the bullet and let them die or Unown G them... and you would further fuel Relicanth.

Pretty much the entire scenario changes if they play Relicanth or not.
