As in past years' celebrations, we will have a Fan Fic contest this year. Lucario EX will be overseeing this year and here are the rules he's come up with:

Rules:
  • Must be 1000-3000 words long.

  • Must be primarily related to Pokemon in some way. You can write about the TCG or have Bowser make a cameo appearance, but your entry cannot, for instance, be entirely about Yu-Gi-Oh with a Pikachu appearing momentarily.

  • As always, follow all PokeGym rules.

  • Obviously, plagiarism will get you disqualified.

  • To submit an entry, e-mail it to [email protected] and Lucario EX will verify it and post them for people to read. If there are any problems such as an invalid word count, you will be asked to change it. If you do not reply with a valid entry, you will be dropped from the contest.

  • Submissions must be sent in by 11:59 GMT, January 1st 2010.

  • You may only submit one entry.

  • Entries will be voted on by PokeGym staff. Any staff member who wishes to compete will not be allowed to vote. Whichever entry receives the most votes will be the winner.

Oops, that line didn't originally make it into the instructions. It's there now.
To submit an entry, send it in ONE PM to Lucario EX. If there are any problems such as an invalid word count, you will be asked to change it. If you do not reply with a valid entry, you will be dropped from the contest.

what if I had wrote the story down on paper, scaned it, and linked it to whom it is suppost to be going to? becuase I've been wrighting one on paper because every time I type it out not long into the story my computer crashes. So I just thought that I would ask if it would work.

Just a couple of questions regarding this...

1) Can we use already established characters and settings of our own creation? I'm not a terrible writer, but my best writing is limited to the characters that I've created and the settings that I've placed them in. In a related question, can I self-plagiarize?

2) Regarding the word and PM limits. The PM system limits all PMs to 5,000 characters, while the contest entry is limited to 3,000 words. See the potential conflict here? I'm also one of the more verbose writers on this site, and will almost always use a longer, more descriptive word whenever I can. What is the exact limit in terms of size that these stories can be?

I would prefer that you didn't, but if it's necessary, that's okay. As long as I can read your handwriting, that is.

Yes, since this time anonymity isn't important.

What do you mean? If you're asking if you can enter something that you've already posted, no.

*facepalms* Forgot all about that. New plan: anyone entering the contest should PM me for my e-mail address and send their entry by e-mail.

Answers in green. Sorry for the confusion, everyone.

Seconds the above. Although my FanFic-ing ways are a bit rusty, I do agree that the PM box limit probably puts my future entry into at LEAST 2 PMs, if not more...

EDIT: Got Ninja-ed by Lucario EX. Ignore this post as all questions were answered above.

NEW plan: Nobody has to PM me anymore. Just send your entries to [email protected].

Don't worry, entries sent to my own e-mail address are still accepted. This is purely for the sake of convenience.

I've had a cool pokemon story in my thoughts for awhile, so I will enter, but are there any goodies as a reward?

:D

I won by popular vote the last time...Let's see if I can win by the expert opinion as well! I have a heartwarming story of lust, love lost, and...Remove Lost.

You will all certainly enjoy it, so wish me luck. :thumb:

P.S. Are we allowed to take pictures to supplement our 1000-3000 word stories? Although not necessary, I think both the staff and the readers at home will get a good laugh out of what I have in mind.

Sure, there will be prizes. I just don't have everything collected yet so I haven't made up the prize packages. It will be some good stuff though. Past Fan Fic contests have had boosters, tote bags, error cards and other small Pokemo items as prizes. We'll find something good this year.

Let's stick to text for now. I might be able to work in pics next time around, but don't hold your breath.

May I ask to have 1 extra day to do this? I've had like 3 family events in a row that I've had to attend, and haven't really had time to do anything, but I would really like to be able to participate.

I'm pretty sure that everyone has family events to attend at the moment. You're not at any particular disadvantage, so no, I'm not giving you an extra day.
If you had asked earlier before anyone had sent in their entry, I might consider extending the deadline, but at this point it would be unfair to those who have already entered, probably under time constraints themselves.

I sent mine in earlier. I put it in vB format, so it won't look quite right in Word, but it'll look exactly how I want it on the boards. LMK if I need to change anything.

Lucario EX, if I may ask you, how many entrance you have so far

IMPORTANT: The deadline has been extended an extra week, due to lack of clarity and not all information being posted (hint hint: check the prizes thread). You now have until January 8th, 11:59 GMT.
Those who have already submitted an entry have permission to tweak and resend their fanfics, but only once.

Just to get an idea, how many ppl have entered thus far? I know I sent mine in NYE, just wanna get an idea of the competition ^_^
