I think because weakness wasn't a huge factor in play and they realized that SP was winning w/o worrying 'bout weakness (all SP pokemon have x2 weakness) so they just went in and gave everyone from HG/SS-on a x2 weakness. I think it's better this way.

Yeah, a +30 Weakness on a 130 HP Stage 2 was never much of a drawback. To tech against that you needed to do 100 damage or play Lucario GL/Lake Boundary.

Type match ups are going to become more important and it's going to be easier to tech. That could make things more interesting.

True.

I'm trying to remember if people used the Blastoise CG much (similar Body to Exploud). I think I saw it in a couple of Plox decks for mirror, but my impression is not much (I only just started back then).

Granted some of the time the x2 can actualy do less...

ex. Uxie's Psychic restore would do 50 to Gardevoir (who has +30 Weakness) and 40 to Gardevoir X (who has x2 Weakness)

It's situational, I don't think this changes much.

I think it's just to give a nod to the old days, but it does bring up some interesting gameplay elements, as others have said.

Does this mean Base Set to EX may be unlocked and brought back into the current set? Considering the biggest reason (or one of them) was the change in weakness/resistance?

Base Set to EX was lost because they routinely rotate sets out to keep the game fresh.

It wasn't anything at all to do with the Weakness change. Base Set was rotated out looooooooooooong before that even happened.

I'm gonna stir up a beehive and say it's because they're looking for a LEGEND-only rotation either this year, or obviously, next year.

The whole set runs so much like the Red/Blue era it's not funny.

It could also be for accessibility reasons. You know, kids and such.

With all the format changes this set brings, a HGSS rotation is more than possible for this upcming season. I know I'm flustered trying to make decks with the new cards that can compete with the diamond/pearl/platinum era cards. It's stupid how underpowered they are...

HGSS on for 2010-2011? Hellz yes please!

They had mixed X2 and +30 Weaknesses for the HP-On format. They have it now if you count SP Pokemon. HP-On had all the rules/format changes that came with DP together with the older cards. It also mixed EX and LV X Pokemon and DRE and Scramble were utterly broken.

They won't make it HGSS-On next rotation. That would be too much of a slap in the face for anyone who bought the Arceus set, only to see it being rotated out after nine whole months. Has a set EVER been rotated out after less than a year?

I hate predicting rotations, but HGSS-on before the 2011 rotation seems like silly talk to me.

The only way I'd see 2010-2011 being HGSS-on is if there is a rotation skip once again. This would probably lead to 2 year rotation schedules instead of the normal 1 year rotation schedule we are used to.

I find the change to X2 is ridiculous.
I found it justified for SP only because SP's were so strong with their superior trainer/supporter support.

x2 are somehwat better

a MT Totodile uses Tackle on
--Typhlosion MT > 10+30 = 40
- Typhlosion HGSS > 10x2 = 20

Large Difference

The difference is negated and reversed at any damage point 30 and over. And I like the change. It makes marginal decks like Eevees and Four Corners now much better (or they will be once x2 is the standard again). It makes certain matchups much easier to deal with. I daresay that if Gardy and Gallade had x2 weakness, they wouldn't have been as much of a problem given that there were still a fair number of pretty powerful Psychic types in the format at the time.

To me, x2 is the ultimate balancing force in this game. It takes matchups that would normally be unwinnable and puts them into more manageable territory simply because you can toss in a single Pokemon with some colorless attacks and one-shot the offender. Makes the game MUCH more interesting that way (ask SP players about that ^_^)
