This is the thread to discuss the Standard and Expanded Format Legal Card Lists. The Standard Format list was republished on its own page, when the Expanded Format list was published on September 1, 2014. This work was completed to coincide with the 2015 Season format rotation on September 3, 2014.

The Standard Format only permits cards from the most recent Pokémon Trading Card Game sets. Currently these are cards from the Black & White—Boundaries Crossed and later sets, plus Black Star Promo Cards BW51 and higher or XY01 and higher.

The Expanded format reaches back a bit farther, currently to the beginning of the previous block of sets; these are cards from the Black & White and later sets, plus Black Star Promo Cards BW01 and higher, or XY01 and higher.

These sets sometimes contain reprinted cards from older sets, making those older cards also legal in their formats! The lists linked below provide you with information on what cards from the older sets can be used in the current formats, plus any restrictions that may be placed on those older cards due to text or other changes.

Updated September 1, 2014 for the new Standard and Expanded Formats with legal cards from older sets that were reprinted.

Legal Card Reminders
You cannot use cards from the World Championship decks. These are pre-packaged decks which have extremely powerful and often expensive cards based on winning competitive decks available at a very low price. These cards are identified by a silver/grey border on the front, a signature in the lower right hand corner of the picture on the card and a unique card back. None of these cards can be in a deck in a Pokémon Organized Play sanctioned tournament; this includes the basic Energy cards from these decks. They are allowed in league play.

Cards marked “NOT TOURNAMENT LEGAL” in the lower left hand corner of the card cannot be used in Pokémon Organized Play events.

Note that you may not have any foreign language cards, including Japanese energy cards, in your deck.

Finally, a listing of all sets, their set symbols and images of the cards legal in each format may be found in the PokeGym Researching Tower: http://pokegym.net/tower/

Updated for Unleashed and Undaunted.

Updates for the new season, starting in September, will follow shortly.

OK, this has been updated for the new season starting next week.

If I've missed adding a valid reprint or missed taking out a card that is no longer legal, please let me know so that I can update this.
Note, Neo Genesis Sneasel was not reprinted in Undaunted. The W&R is different so the old print is not legal for Modified.

Are Dialga Lv.X, Palkia Lv.X, Darkrai Lv.X Promos legal?

How is Dialga/Palkia DP legal?

Just wondering :/

Did you post a list of promos legal or did I miss something

Thanks for the help :)

Those cards were reprinted as promos in the legal series of DP promos.
Yeah, it's a bit surprising that they are still legal.

The legal promos are noted toward the end of the list.
Take a look.
They're there.

'Pop, it might be useful to re-start this topic for each new season. Some of the posts in here make zero sense given the new rotation, and could mislead newer players just logging on here for the first time.

Well, one reason we keep it in this topic is because this is our number one link into the site from search engines.
Possibly we could soft delete the older posts.
How would people feel about that?

POP2 Pikachu is still legal.

You missed the accent on Poké Ball in Unseen Forces and Crystal Guardians.
You misspelled Super Scoop Up (Diamond/Pearl) and Premier Ball (Great Encounters).
You missed the apostrophe in Professor Oak's Visit (Secret Wonders).

Also, just out of curiosity, why is no reference required for Base Set/2 Full Heal, since they don't mention Burn, which Expedition and on can remove?

How about you go look in the researching tower yourself?

And, actually, not reprinted in Arceus, but in Majestic Dawn.
We got it two sets in a row!

I asked because I did look on the gallery on my favorite site PokeBeach and didn't find it under Arceus like that poster said, so I asked for a link. Is that a problem???????????????????

That's your problem. It would have been much easier to check on the PokeGym's Researching Tower. :thumb::lol:
