I believe that this is a first in Pokémon history. Cards will be sold in retail stores thought the county but they will not be legal or organized play until after Regional’s. I do not believe that this has ever happened before. Can anyone think of a time before where we could purchase legitimate English cards from a retail outlet and not be allowed to use them?

One of the POP series was given out at Regionals and was not playable for the event.

Back when Regionals were a two weekend event like States is.

I remember some card(s) being released partway through an event series and they weren't allowed in any of the events.

Yea I remember that now, we all given a pack as a Preview at regionals but we could not use anything in it that day or the next week. I think it was POP 2

That's gonna stink for the little kiddies who get their BW cards, get all excited and then told "lolno you can't use that"

Didn't this happen with the DP1 tins as well? Nothing to see here, move along.

I don't think it will be that much of an issue. We're not talking about a Battle Roads, where there is a high probability of newer players showing up. States/Provincials and Regionals, I think, would tend to draw mostly players who are up on the current situation and will have legal decks.

I guess I'm missing something. Regionals are on April 16.

Black & White booster packs are not being sold in stores until April 25. It is only the 3 theme decks which go on sale on April 6. It makes sense that those cards would not be tournament legal until booster packs were released.

The bottom line is that promos and theme decks are coming out early to tie in as much as possible with the release of the B&W VGs to get the public interested in the TCG.

This is a GOOD thing for the TCG, to generate interest.
It brings fresh players into the game and pays for OP, among other things.
Healthy set sales, healthy OP.

The cards should not really have been released until after Regionals and only were to take advantage of this promotional opportunity
There's no point in getting upset about some limited few cards from the set not being allowed in a couple of tournaments that they wouldn't have been allowed in ANYWAY if the cards had come out at their normal scheduled time.
