A REAL counter to vilegar/lostgar in luxchomp

I'm trying out 1 Regice right now. You can discard pokemon against lostgar or trainers against vilegar.

Yeah, they can shadow room your regice twice for the KO, but that's two turns of not poltergiesting and two turns of them not attacking your attackers.

Plus, you don't have to worry about using your counter and it getting fainting spelled.

I find it much more reliable than weavile g or a tech honchkrow or whatever...

The deal is, Weavile helps anyway. I mean, if you start with it and a spray, you can easily prevent a good set up for your opponent. Team attack is just to two shot it.

TBH the "counter" is Dialga G X and some stadiums such as Contest hall, GHQ, etc. and MAYBE Skuntank G. Skuntank is mainly for other decks such as Gyarados. It's definatly a tight fit, but it's worth it if you really want to win the matchup. If they play Lostworld before, you'll be able to play a stadium and Deafen. They won't be able to win as long as you time you're turns, healing breaths, etc.

Regice is the play in decks like Machamp. Easily a good tech.

Regice might be better for the Vilegar matchup. All you need to do it run hard lines of Collector and Bebe's and you're fine. I'm running Umbreon myself but I will try this one out.

The best counter for Luxchomp against Vilegar? Play smart.
Just because you can't just rely on the imbaness of Luxchomp here (like you can against many other decks), it doesn't mean it's a bad matchup.
If you really need something, Weavile should do the job.

Regice requires you to run Warp Energy that take up additional slots. If you don't and play Regice down, Vilegar or Lostgar can pull out their Blaziken or Zangoose tech (and yes, there are versions running them) and just say gg.

Played Regice at states today and it helped considerably enough that I'm pretty much leaving it as a staple in my lux lists.

I'll run the risk of starting with it <5% of my games when it helps win 2 matchups singlehandedly...

It also helped me win against a mirror match, with us tied on 1-1 prize, I could kill any of his pokemon except his active. Regimove!

I used both the above pokemon in my build at States and took 1st... in a sea of Gengar. So... all I have to say is I disagree.

I'm not in a sea of Gengar.

I just think Regice is an easy single card tech that doesn't require you to change energy or anything else that really helps in that matchup.:thumb:

Also what state?

Georgia. I mean... you are asking about a reliable Gengar counter... regardless of how many there might be in your meta, to counter Gengar, Weavile and Honchkrow are incredibly consistent. That is all.

Yeah but that isn't a 1 card counter, that's 3 or 4 cards minimum.

I like this idea. Not only against Gengar but especially when you need to switch your Opponent's active Pokemon for a game winning prize. It's just like a tech Warp Point which usually gives the last prize. Regice start isn't so bad if you run 2-3 Warp energies and anyways, it's like one bad start in the tournament. I can't be certain if it works, but it sure sounds interesting.

I've also come across another useful thing with Regice. In a mewtwo lv.x standoff, I can regice their mewtwo out of the way and psyburn or gigablast their benched pokemon!

If we're talking "one card counter that is dark type" I say drapion 4 RR. Hits for 70 vanilla damage. Uses psychic energy, instead of dark. Him+skuntank =no fainting spell ohko gengar sf
and him by himself=ohko gengar prime

See, this guy knows his stuff. If you want a Gengar counter, go with Drapion 4. Easily splashable into any SP build. Your opponent won't see it coming...
Bench, DCE, Galactic Switch Psychic Energy, attach E-Gain. There you go. 70 damage ready to kick some Gengar butt.
Nice find mate. Drapion is TOTALLY the play right now.

. . . a 4 energy attack is NOT a good idea in LuxChomp. At all. The Honchkrow is pushing it with 3... Weavile is more managable with Gain... but really? Drapion 4? Laughable at best.

If you have Lucario out, you 1hko. Fainting spell? There goes your counter. Then you'll need to aaron's it back and waste another gain, DCE, etc.

The only way to prevent that is run skuntank and stadiums. That's like 3-5 more cards including the 1 drapion..............
