Card shortage before they're even on sale?

Since this is the News and gossip section, and I have no way of confirming this, I will leave it up to others to discuss the truth of the matter.

I went to a local card store and was told the distributor was swamped with orders for the upcoming Black and White trading card set that no more orders would be accepted. The original print run was sold out. That means the game is getting quite a turnaround. It may not mean that there is a particular shortage in any one spot, but that very few businesses may be able to get more than their original order. Get 'em while you can.

If this is true this would mean Pokemon succeeded in their goal of a total reset to bring back the colour days and the mass following it had then. I guess only time will tell.

Don't get too excited yet.

Some distributors play a supply/demand game with their retailers.
That is, they LIMIT (or deny) quantities to smaller retailers and supply ONLY their big guys.

also...the OP is in canada. any situation with canadian distributors is not necessarily the same as for those in the US or elsewhere...

I run a store here in the US, I can still get more if I want.

Also RA is right. For several distributors, there are "allocations" in place. Meaning depending on your volume of store, they will only give you a certain number and no more.

Another problem that could arise is that all of my Preorders for the Black and White TCG have already gone through "Last Chance." Meaning that after the "Last Chance" time period, any further order increases are not guaranteed. What happens is that companies do not want to overspend on new releases, so they base their numbers off of store preorders. Right now, I can't guarantee to get any more preorders I would put in. I might get extra, but I'm not for sure. But that's with one company, I deal with 3. So if I wanted more, I could fill my allocation from one of the others.

^This one is looking bigger that DP by a long shot. My entire league has foregone the card game and is almost entirely a DS league at the moment. XD I think on Wednesday there was ONE card game played in 3 hours.... Black and White are awesome in general.

I actually plan to buy a box of B&W, and that will be the first box I EVER buy.

Why? Because the chase cards aren't the only reason to buy the set. There are a lot of cool cards. If Reshiram/Zekrom become meta, and Emboard does too, which I expect, three holos will be top-tier. Catcher is a great card. The artwork on the chase cards is amazing. The set will be legal for a long time.

I think a lot of other people actually feel the same way.

I think it may be box worthy but...I'm not sold on that idea yet. I also think that with so few techy pokemon in the uncommon slots, and the short trainer set it has for a first set in a block, it's going to be really terrible in limited. ._.;

I'm sorry, Juniper + Catcher + Remover aren't awesome enough for you?

Those are the only ones I even know yet -_-

Well, if they follow the Japanese set we also have some tech-worthy cards as well. Max Potion could see some play in Gyarados decks if they exist in the same format for any amount of time, Energy Retrieval was near-staple in the WotC days of the game, and Revive could see some serious play as long as SP with Garchomp still exists in the format. For the record, here's what trainers and supporters were released in the Black and White Collections in Japan according to Bulbapedia:

Energy Retrieval
Crush Hammer (Energy Removal 2)
Pokemon Communication
Max Potion
Recycle
Professor Juniper (Professor Oak)
Revive
Great Ball
Full Heal
PlusPower
Pokemon Catcher (Gust of Wind)
Cheren

there's also a rumor of mid-season rotation...

Which is why I said "if" on the Gyarados example. Anything could happen, and I'm not going to claim to know exactly how B&W is going to affect the meta because until it releases there's no real way to tell. Either way, there may be some great trainers releasing in this set. Honestly, as far as trainers/supporters go, if they release that entire list it has the possibility of being the best trainer set in awhile.
