What would you do?

Some person at States ( I was watching) played a Cyrus's Conspiracy and got a copy cat and accidentally started to use the effect of copy cat( which is using 2 supporters in one turn) he shuffled his hand into his deck. Then he realized what he did but his opponent didn't. So He just drew the six cards and pretended like he used copy cat. His hand that he drew helped him win the game I am asking y'all what you would do in this situation. DISCUSS!

I would reach across the table and offer my hand, congratulating my opponent on the win.

Game Play Error Severe 7.1.3. Shuffling your hand into your deck without the use of a card effect. Recommended Starting Penalty: Tier 1: Game Loss Tier 2: Game Loss

By asking to give my opponent a win by asking a judge for a Game Loss penalty, I am also triggering a Warning for my opponent for failing to keep track of game state and rules resulting in a 7/1.3. Severe Game Loss penalty.

To fail to end the game as the person who used two supporters, folding my hand into my deck, irreparably breaking the game state, then continue to play, knowing I should have a game loss, but bluffing my opponent, would be 7.6.4. Unsporting Conduct Cheating Recommended Starting Penalty: Tier 1: Disqualification Tier 2: Disqualification

You should've told the judges what happened, as this is blatant cheating. It doesn't even have anything to do with spirit of the game, it has to do with the rules. Not really a funny situation at all. =\

If I was the one who shuffled my hand into my deck, I would have gotten a judge to come over and give me a game loss.

As a player, if I had seen it happen, I would have asked the players to stop for a moment and called a judge over.

The error does severe damage to the gamestate. But it is not an automatic game loss because there was a card effect in play (Cyrus) the shuffle of the hand is a big error but it may be recoverable. Unless I have it wrong that particular example in the penalty guidelines is reserved for when a player shuffles their hand away for no reason.

The player misplayed Cyrus in spectacular fashion but it is still a misplay of Cyrus and not a shuffle of the hand without card effect.
Probably will be a game loss because the gamestate cannot be recovered. Though ending with the same penalty the justification is different.

One time, my opponent used Cyrus´ Conspiracy and got a Team Galactic´s Wager (notably, it was back in DP-on).
So, I somehow manage to black out and shuffle my hand into my deck, thinking he played it. In this case, my opponent called a judge who gave me a game loss - completely fair and square.

Therefore, I would call a judge if I noticed myself having done it - however I´m quite sure my opponent would be alert enough to do so before I had the chance to.
Fairly sure it would result in a game loss as well.

Oh, and that is certainly not a funny situation at all. Since the player in question was cheating, that surely is nothing funny from a player´s perspective.

I made this stupid mistake at Nats in '09. After a long deliberation the Judging staff rewoud our game, and offered my opponent a Multi-Prize Card Penalty. There are better ways to resolve this than a game loss, SOMETIMES. (My opponent, Andrew Murray, declined the penalty as he's an AWESOME guy, and the game came down to a single prize.)

If I were to see this happen as a player, I'd quietly point it out to a Judge, and let them handle the issue. I would hope someone would do the same for me. I would never want to cheat, even on accident, and certainly would hope no one would cheat against me (even through negligence).

Hey everyone i got a funny story. Your sig shows you are the MS State Champ for 2011 and you find this humorous??? Wow...quite the SotG there. I'm sure the Schells would not be pleased with this.

Easy answer....alert a judge. Let them handle it from there. Even with great active judging, the eyes are not everywhere and things like this need to be pointed out and stopped.

OK OK i guess it is not funny at all. Sorry for that, i just wanted to see what most people would do( i certainly would call the judge over ... like i did when i forgot to put my prizes out in the last match of a cities finals and lost the finals:frown:.) Seriously though i am sorry completely for thinking that was humorous

You say you would call a judge over, but obviously you DIDNT bc you are posting here on what would you do.

Did you call a judge over on this at States or not???? You say you saw it happen.

i am saying i would call a judge over if i was the person who accidentally used copy cat. I not gonna go tell on someone

The Spirit of the Game says that you, as a spectator are encouraged to go tell a judge if you see anything untoward happen in a game. Let me give you an example: at a cities I played at, I was playing VileGar against an opponent. I had trainer lock set up from turn two, but didn't realize my opponent had played an Expert Belt. Two other players who were watching the game did... and they said nothing to the judge. My opponent won because of the expert belt and when we were told what happened, he went to to TO to see if there was any way it could have been reversed. It was his mistake and my mistake, but there was no way to take it back at that point because both of us had signed the match slips. If the spectator who informed me immediately after the match had gone and told the judge before the match ended, it would have been a completely different game. It's important that we hold each other accountable to the rules that we expect to be held accountable to.

So yes in all caps and bold lest you forget it: IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WRONG HAPPEN IN A GAME YOU ARE SPECTATING, PLEASE LET A JUDGE KNOW EVEN IF IT'S NOT YOUR GAME. Thank you.

Are you sure the player knew he made the procedural error? If so, you just witnessed cheating.

Your role in this situation is a Spectator. It's fuzzy whether you should get involved (notify the judge), but I know what I'd do (notify the judge).

by the remarks of my mom, i have to close this thread. Sorry.
sorry, but we don't close threads by request of the OP, nor of their parent(s).

once you (general 'you') start a thread, it's no longer 'yours' but the community's...and you are responsible for anything that results from what you post.

My understanding of the situation is that the hand was shuffled as a result of an unplayable second supporter copycat, and not as a result of the first supporter played cyrus card effect.

Either way, we seem to agree that game play severe, irreparably broken game state has occurred and the penalty is Game Loss.

I am also uncomfortable that even one top tier player doesn't feel it their responsibility to protect the integrity of the game, and demonstrate Spirit Of The Game in actions and words, by bringing instances of cheating immediately to the attention of a judge.

"I not gonna go tell on someone," leads to unfair competitions and flawed rankings within an event and throughout the entire Pokemon community.

Another question asked separately.

The person who is driving is going a car 80 MPH in a 60 MPH speed limit zone.
Do you :

1. Do Nothing because there is no harm and it is a open interstate.
2. Tell your friend to slow down to the speed limit.
3. Call 911, Tell your friend to pull off at the nearest exit, so that a police officer can write him a ticket.

I know the answer to this question for most people, and I know the "real" answer to the original question for most people too.
