Iron Chef Leader
Welcome to the scores of Iron Chef round 2.

This was definitely a lot easier to score, it was also fun seeing some actually VERY competitive yet rogue decks come out.

Enough Jibber Jabber, onto the score.
Due note, there is some important information for all hands at the bottom of this thread.

Top Deck List - DragonClyne725

Deck Name: Ninja Lock

~19 Pokemon~
4-3 Ninjask
4-0-4 Gothitelle
1-0-1 Serperior
2 Darkrai-EX

~12 Supporters~
4 N
3 Juniper
3 Cheren
2 Skyla

~18 Trainers~
1 Computer Search (ACE-SPEC)
4 Communication
3 Level Ball
4 Rare Candy
3 Switch
2 Max Potion
1 Super Rod

~11 Energy~
4 Blend LFPD
7 Grass

The main idea of this deck is to set-up a Gothitelle ASAP and block your opponent's Items. Basic Hit-and-Run strategy with Night Slash. Gothitelle can be retreated by attaching a Dark energy and getting out a Darkrai-EX, or you can just use Switch.

The Deck

Nincada (DRX 10)
Not the greatest card around, but the only Nincada we have. With 40 hp, Nincada's not going to last very long on its own. It can be subject to a T1 Rayquaza donk. Not your ideal starter, but necessary to have and get Ninjask out.

Ninjask (DRX 11)
The main attacker of the deck. Night Slash does a solid 60 damage, being able to 3HKO most EX Pokemon, and then switches to the Bench. With Gothitelle then active, and with no snipers in the format besides Darkrai-EX's Night Spear attack, Ninjask is able to compensate for its low hp. Also, Gothitelle's Magic Room also blocks Pokemon Catcher, making it impossible to Catcher + OHKO Ninjask. Also, being a grass type, Ninjask is able to hit Terrakion, Terrakion-EX, and Keldeo-EX for weakness, making it able to perform 2HKOs.

Gothita (EPO 43)
Hypnosis is a pretty good attack, and puts this Gothita above the rest. Instant sleep is pretty useful. This is your ideal starter, as it can lead to an active Gothitelle T2-T3.

Gothitelle (EPO 47)
The second focus of the deck, aside from Ninjask. Gothitelle's Magic Room Ability prevents your opponent from playing Item cards as long as it's active, keeping your Bench safe from Catcher. Without Mewtwo-EX in the format, Psychic weakness is not as bad as it is normally. 130 hp means Rayquaza needs 3 energy to OHKO, and Keldeo-EX needs 4 Water energy. Also, this means that Darkrai-EX is only able to 2HKO Gothitelle. Gothitelle's two retreat cost is covered by Switch and Darkrai-EX's Dark Cloak.

Snivy/Serperior (BW 1/BW 6)
Sort of a random inclusion, but necessary. Serperior is used for its Royal Heal Ability, which allows you to remove one damage counter from each of your Pokemon in between turns. This is mainly an anti-Darkrai measure, as it turns Night Spear snipes on a benched Ninjask from a 2HKO into a 4HKO, which buys Ninjask more time to attack.

Darkrai-EX
Dark Cloak gives a Gothitelle with a Dark Energy free retreat. Yup, that's about it.

Max Potion serves to slow down the loss of Gothitelles, making Darkrai-EX need to use three Night Spears instead of just two, for example. Switch can be used to retreat a Gothitelle that discarded its Dark Energy via Max Potion.

The Match-Ups

Aggron Mil
Your best match-up out of the three. This deck is composed of twenty-six total Item cards, not to mention the fact that its strategy is to use Hammers/Devolution Spray to stall and force you to deck out. I have found that Skyla and Bianca's usefulness go down drastically when your Items are blocked, so that's over half the deck that's useless. The only Pokemon who are even able to attack you are Sableyes (2HKO'd by Ninjask) and their one Darkrai-EX. Ninjask is able to 3HKO it, and with Super Rod blocked, it's a pretty easy game. Just as long as you get the quick Goth and the Ninjask up and running, you'll do fine.

Klinklang & Co.
A little trickier, but a pretty good match-up. Half of the attackers in this deck are weak to Grass, so it's easy to get 2HKOs. With Rare Candy AND Heavy Ball blocked, Klinklang needs Klang to come out. Since Klang is not searchable without Items, they need to get lucky in order to draw into it. Even if they manage to Rare Candy into Klinklang T2, Max Potion becomes blocked once Goth gets out, not to mention their way to search for attackers. You once again have to be wary of their Darkrai-EXs, but they shouldn't be too much of a problem with Serperior and Night Slash running. Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good match-up.

RayEelz
This would have to be your hardest match-up in the given format. Rayquaza is able to donk a lone Nincada start, and Rayquaza-EX can OHKO Gothitelle. Skyla and Bianca don't help when Goth is out, making a good twenty-two cards useless if Goth is active. Serperior really does not help with this match-up, but Ninjask is still able to 3HKO Rayquaza-EX. Eels are slowed by Level/Ultra Ball being blocked, which gives you an edge. Not as good a match-up as the others, but still winnable.

Initially, I gave this deck a lower number. It seemed all theorymon with no bite. After further review, I stumbled onto a GREAT deck. This list is incredibly consistent with the use of 10 draw supporters and 2 skyla. One thing I noticed in terms of a flaw was only 2 Skyla. I think this is a slight misplay. This deck could very well crumble without it. You need to be able to get the Goths out and ready to go fairly quickly. I think you could run into a few problems every now and then because of this. Ninjask is a UNIQUE card here, a solid attacker in the given format. As he noted, a lot of cards are weak to it. The ability to Attack and make your Poke auto retreat through the attack is such a good strategy and can be used to greatly affect the outcome, which he did here. I am questioning whether or not 2 Plus Powers would have worked in this deck? In the end of that thinking, I believe he may be in the right to actually not include it, because it truly will not affect much. I do NOT entirely like the 4/0/4 1/0/1 lines. I believe if you are to worried about Goth's getting knocked out. I believe what the line should have been was 4/2/3 Goth. Doing this not only increases your odds of abusing communication, but also allows multiple goth's, just in case. Darkrai EX is just an obvious card, do I need to explain? Serperior is VERY interesting, such a groovy tech. It is actually very useful as well. In the end, I would have LOVED to see a Ditto in this deck, for overall consistency and perhaps a surprise Serperior after a turn of Ditto being on the bench.
Overall, a very good deck and it was a true pleasure to grade it. thank you!

Top Deck List - Matijs
Pokémon: 16
4 Drillbur (Emerging Powers, 54)
4 Excadrill (Dark Explorers, 56)
3 Vulpix
3 Ninetales
2 Victini (Noble Victories, 15)

T/S/S: 32
4 Juniper
3 N
3 Cheren
2 Skyla
4 Level Ball
3 Ultra Ball
3 Crushing Hammer
2 Devolution Spray
2 Switch
2 PlusPower
2 Energy Switch
1 Gold Potion
1 Tool Scrapper

Energies: 12
9 Fight
3 Fire

Strategy:
The main focus of the deck is on Excadrill. Excadrill does 30 damage with it’s first attack to a benched Pokémon, which is quite good as a finisher or an early game spreader. But this decks focuses on the 2nd attack of Excadrill. For 2 fighting energy you do 50 damage and you can return ANY card from your discard pile to your hand. That is exactly why I chose to play 4 Juniper and 3 Ultra Balls, you can return the discarded cards anyway and you’ll have a quicker setup.
Excadrill is the main attacker but does only 50 damage, that is not enough if you don’t play Catcher. Since Catcher is banned I added a 3-3 Ninetales line. With 3-3 Ninetales , 3 Devolution Sprays and the awesome 2nd attack of Excadrill you can use the ability of Ninetales nearly every turn if played correctly.
Crushing Hammer is in the deck to make the Klingklang matchup easier, you can return the used Crushing Hammers with Excadrill if necessary.
Energy Switch is to charge Victini in 1 turn (Victini’s use will be explained in the Matchups section).
The Tool Scrapper is necessary because you only hit for 50 with Excadrill. Of course you can also use this card multiple times in combination with Excadrills attack. It really depends on the situation which card to take back with Excadrill.
And now the best card in combination with Excadrill’s 2nd attack: Gold Potion. You may ask why I don’t use Computer Search. This is because the deck is already fast enough and because you can also take back Supporters with Excadrill. Gold potion is game winning in here. Especially against the klingklang matchup. There are only a few Pokémon in that deck which hit more than 90 every turn. Which means Excadrill never dies when facing those Pokémon. Use Gold Potion to heal and take it back every single turn.

Matchup strategy:
Aggron:
With Excadrill you can try to get early kills on Aron’s (in combination with the abilty of Ninetales and PlusPower). And try to KO their Darkrai EX with Excadrill if they have to put in on the bench (at some point they need to use Sableye). Once they’ve set up Aggron, you should get Victini, due to weakness, Victini does 200 damage to Aggron. Victini get’s a prize every turn so they shouldn’t be able to keep up with that.

Rayeels:
Rayquaza EX depends on Eelektrik to be able to KO something every turn. With Excadrill in combination of the ability of Ninetales you can KO an Eelektrik every single turn. Then you can start attacking the Rayquaza EX’s and if needed finish them with Victini. When they try to be funny with the normal Rayquaza, you just do the Gold Potion trick.

Klinkgklang EX:
Try to get early kills on Klinks with Excadrill + Ninetales ability + Pluspower. Once they have Klingklang set up, KO it in 1 blow with Victini. They will try to setup Keldeo EX, since that cards easily OHKO’s every single card in your deck. Try to use Crushing Hammer on Keldeo EX every turn (take the crusing hammers back with Excadrill’s 2nd attack), this should hold them back. When they start using other attackers, just go for the Gold Potion + Excadrill strategy.

Sometimes, creativity is a basic thought of simplicity. This deck is just that, a basic thought used in a way that is creative. Ninetails, the catcher of the deck is used in a VERY consistent way. When partnered with Excadrill, you can easily KO Eels which crushes The Rayquaza deck. I like the Trainer line, just a perfect amount for such an attack of Excadrill. Victini can be INCREDIBLY clutch in almost every situation. It isn't entirely creative, but it is enough to not hurt your points. Again, I would like to see more Skyla, it is in my opinion the 2nd best Supporter in the game next to Juniper. I like the energy count here, you actually utilize the potential for Ninetails having to attack...thats great card usage.
All in all, great deck, thanks for the entry it was a pleasure grading.

8 : Psychic Energy

Huh. This metagame reminds me a LOT of the California cities metagame. Namely, the complete lack of tool scrapper in 2/3rds of the deck lists, and even the list running it plays only one copy. All three decks we have to beat are entirely reliant upon their abilities. Garbodor shuts down abilities. In what is usually a departure from common sense, I use both ability Garbodor and non-ability Garbodor to attack.

Vs. Aggron
Set up a Garbodor, and I win. Simple as that. Their ONE Darkrai won't do them much good, and they can't really go hammer spam when Toxicroak attacks for a single energy. Benchtini (v-create) can OHKO an Aggron after it is sent active, or dragged up by Carnivine. If they start a lone basic, one can possibly donk with v-blast Victini paired with fliptini. Either way, Garbodor also takes care of Sableye nicely. 60+ poison from the non ability garbage man means they die in between turns, making any tech Terrakion they might have useless as well. (I know this specific list does not, but the deck in general) The same holds true for Emolga, with 70 HP as well. Their tropical beach can assist us in getting resources as needed, as well. Remember that trubbish can get tools back form the discard, and that super rod can be re-used via Sableye. With the way the deck list given for this deck looks, this matchup is squarely in my favor, by more than a little. I'd nail it at 70-30 in the favor of garbage man, if not better.

Vs. Rayquaza/Eelektrik
This deck relies very heavily upon abilities. Iit needs abilities to get off back to back attacks. Eels thrives upon being able to OHKO EX Pokémon for a quick six prizes, back to back. With my own deck list devoid of any EX Pokémon, it'll be a hard six prizes. Of note, the Rayeels list plays zero tool scrapper, and no Victini. This means that any worries of paralysis or Raikou snipes are completely negated. Nothing in this deck except Rayquaza EX can one-shot us, so we're safe on that front. If we force the opponent to get into a drawn out retreat war (by brining up eels with Carnivine over and over) they'll run out of switches and with a severe lack of DCE, we can just win out from there. 3 Catcher means that if we set up more than one garbage man, they'll have no choice but to try and KO things anyways. Any time we are knocked out, we can hit for a revenge 90 damage seemingly effortlessly. Once again, donking with Victini is an option, as any start short of Rayquaza EX is equally donkable. Even Rayquaza non-ex is within range. A severe lack of Eviolite in this eels deck means we can trade for a favorable prize exchange for ANYTHING within the deck. Garbodor still is a viable attacker here, as well, as poison damage adds up quickly when you can't retreat your precious eels. 60-40 minimum in our favor.
Vs. Klinklang
Finally, a deck list running tool scrapper! Except it's just one. And they have no way to get it back.... Oh. This deck is once again completely dependant upon abilities, in this case, three of them, mainly. Klinklang shifts energy, Darkrai provides free retreat, and Keldeo Rushes In. All three of those are stopped by our lowly garbage collector man. Darkrai and Klinklang resist psychic, so for them, it's best to use Benchtini or fry them with a slow death by poison. Thankfully, most of these guys are high retreat monsters needing lots of energy. Dragging up a klinklang while Garbodor is working makes the opponent either dedicate attachments to attack with it, or ignore it for building up other attackers. In either case, that gives us plenty of time to build up a response. If they dedicate other attackers, we can bring up Benchtini to fry him into next week. If they attach to klinklang, same issue, except now they're also several turns behind on energy. Sigilyph is useless to them, and Shaymin EX won't do them much good due to how easily it can be trapped with paralysis, and then hit for OHKO. Remember that with klinklang inoperable, Shaymin takes two turns to power up. They wont be able to drop it as a surprise. The big beefy fighting guys are taken care of by Garbodor and Toxicroak. Drag 'em up with Carnivine, then hit 'em while they're exposed without enough energy. Unless they get a huge setup super early, it's curtains for them. 65-35 in our favor.

Oi, at 1st glance I was confusing a bit. I didnt know what I was looking at. The score could have been higher, I just didnt like the overall creativity of the deck. It is a creative deck for sure, it can basically DESTROY the entire format without a sweat, but it is just such a simple idea that doesnt use simplicity. It sets up Poke wise smoothly, I just cant believe this ACTUALLY works. This deck you could actually take to a city's and actually win with it. I think the tools are perfect in terms of numbers. The trainer line is nearly perfect, the reason for such a low score is bad starts that this deck will encounter on a numerous basis. The Supporters ARE perfect in numbers for this style of deck and list. I would have liked to see one more Skyarrow for consistency. All in all, great deck, thanks for entering it, it was a pleasure grading it.

Top Deck List - bullados

Looking at this challenge, there were really only two Stage 1 Whites that I could think about building a deck around. Cinccino felt a little underpowered, but Raticate has always interested me. I had two routes I could go with this. Since I used one of them in the last round, I figured I might as well go this way this round.

Pokemon (18):
4 Ditto
3 Rattata
3 Raticate
3 Foongus
3 Amoongus
2 Sableye

Trainers (32):
4 Level Ball
4 Ultra Ball
4 N
4 Juniper
4 Skyla
1 Computer Search
4 Devolution Spray
1 Tropical Beach
1 Energy Switch
2 EXP Share
1 Super Rod
2 Aspertia City Gym

Energy (10):
4 Double Colorless
6 Darkness

Another simple concept taken to its inevitable conclusion. Amoongus Poisons the Defending, then Raticate puts it to within 10 of being KO'd, then it's KO'd with Poison. This takes out everything, and I mean everything, in one shot. Unfortunately, it's also very, very fragile. Raticate has only 60 HP. Rattata has 30. Foongus has 40. Amoongus has 90. That's where Ditto comes in. Ditto sits on your bench and looks stupid until you need to evolve immediately. It's there to take a hit so that your low HP Basics don't have to. And it's not an instant OHKO like your tinies are. Also, Aspertia City Gym helps out in this regard. Your opponent can't simply Darkrai a Ditto and leave you completely defenseless. Giving a Rattata 50 HP makes a lot of things a lot easier.

Fortunately, everything in this deck can be searched out with Level Ball. And it's impossible to hit on the first turn, so Tropical Beach makes its grand appearance. Even though Raticate's attack costs 3, you've got DCE to make up for the other 2 and give you a turn 2 attack. There's tons and tons of draw power in here, so you shouldn't ever go hungry for anything.

Devolution Spray ensures that you have the potential for pulling off the combo every single turn, by leaving you with a Foongus or a Ditto sitting on the Bench at the end of every turn. Sableye cleans up on the turns when you can't get things going by grabbing some Trainers out of the Discard Pile.

With this deck, you're generally not worried too much about getting KO'd. Why? Because you should be taking 2 prizes every single time you attack. This deck was MADE for killing Pokemon EX, which are running rampant throughout this format. Against RayEels, you simply KO whatever Pokemon EX is sitting out there. The setup times between the two decks are theoretically equivalent, but they'll usually sit there with a beefy EX for a turn or two before they attack with it. Against the Klinklang, pretty much the same thing. They should usually have an EX active, which gives you a 3 turn win. The only thing to worry about is that regular Terrakion. And they can recycle it, so be very, very careful. Against the Mill, that's either an 8 or 9 turn clock. They will not take a KO, unless it's with Darkrai. And if they're KOing you with Darkrai, they're ignoring their base strategy, AND giving you your extra prizes to take the game quickly. Scarf doesn't even help them, as you KO through Status, instead of Damage.

This is just a fun deck!! I actually played a few games with this, currently 7-0 before I stopped playing with it. It is JUST fun, creative, consistent and a true terror to the metagame. It sets up incredibly well, creativity could have easily been 9/10, but in order to get that you have to just completely blow my mind, and a 10/10 would just be im changing my status to tell the world my mind is baffled in amusement by a great poke list. Amoongus is such a clutch card, he runs NO ex's so it makes your opponent winning a much harder task. You should win with this, everytime. The only problem that it may encounter is Aggron. Many people do not believe in the list that was provided or the true power the deck has. When that Aggron list is played nearly to perfection, it could beat this. but it would require a slowish start and a few misplays on your part. All in all, great Trainer line...pretty much one of the most consistent entries in the tournament. I think I may go play this deck a bit more, thank you for a FANTASTIC entry, it was a true pleasure grading this and everyone's entries. Thank you!

There you have it, great round and much easier for me in terms of scoring.
If you are on the NO ENTRY list, please let me know if you did in fact actually turn your entry in. I actually lost a few PM's a couple of days ago, so if you did, please let me know and resubmit. If you didn't, please use the honor system. Thanks in advanced.

Now, onto some news.

Aside from what my prizes were, Pokegym staff have decided to throw in a few more prizes.
Here they are;

Winner - pair of limited edition black and white PokeGym dice.

Top 2-8 - a green/gold Dragon type PokeGym dice.

Woot, thanks again Pokegym(Team Compendium)

Here is some other news;
I am thinking about ending this and going into the Top 32. I feel that doing another round is sort of pointless, I think we can determine who made the cut and who didn't. So I want you, the players, opinion. Do you want to go straight into top cut? Or, would you like to see one more round and then do the top cut?

I will leave this in your hands, I would love to do the Top Cut now, but if I can get 8 people to say, "lets do 1 more round", then we will do one more round of swiss.

If there are any errors with numbers not adding up or something of that nature, please let me know. I am human and can make mistakes.

Enjoy!

Not that it really matters as the scores stay the same regardless, but didn't redwater score higher than me, meaning his entry for pod three should have been featured?

We only have 36 players by my count (9+10+8+9)

Calling top 32 an actual top cut is silly IMO.

If you go to topcut now, a T16 is ideal. That means the entire upper half cuts.

If you run another round of swiss, that's fine too, but either way T32 is not really much of a topcut at all.

I promised a Top 32, you also got to think like a real tournament. No one complained about a top 32 earlier, we had quite a bit of players. We then started and pretty much everyone had to drop because people were busy. I did contemplate going to a Top 16 cut, but I would then do one more round of swiss. I really would rather do a top 32.

If it becomes a Top 16 I will be quite upset. I have been gearing my deckbuilding to simply assure that I have a position in the Top 32. I never try to go for the top score early as I don't want to peak and I know which part of the bracket I prefer to go through. =/

here my deck anyways

^This. Top 32 seems like the way to go.

Im fine for top 32 now. The score wont change much if they are anything like the last 2 rounds so another round would seem pointless. Either way I'm fine with what everyone else chooses.

ok How will T32 work just like 1v1 or all 32 together. also do we get graded or do we play? I have never been in Top 32 before (only second year to do this)

I'd say go to Top 32. I mean, the ones that aren't in their respective Top 8 will say go for another round of swiss anyway and they already had their chances in my opinion. However,, it's your call. Just thought I'd give you my opinion.

Aaah come on... Same score as the winner of my pod, but lost on "tie-break". Oh well highest creative score of my pod :D

Oh well. I don't know how many rounds of swiss that was the plan from the beginning, but if there were some number given, then we should stick to it. Its always annoying to changes things in the middle of the tournament.
Same goes for top 32.

I'll fully admit this. I had seen the deck I built before. At Cities. Where I believe it went 4-3 on the day, and could have gone 5-2 if not for a couple of misplays. Raticate / Amoonguss could have been competitive in the previous format. Raticate / HTL WILL be competitive. I'm just waiting for ppl to come across this deck and rampage the metagame. BTW, not having Catcher was a HUGE detriment to the deck. It's a deck that relies upon KOing the correct Pokemon at the correct time, and I couldn't fit in a Ninetales to get that done.

As far as Aggron, I basically agreed that it was a 50/50 matchup. The deck has either 8 or 9 turns to get 5 or 6 KOs, depending on whether the opponent is dumb enough to push the Darkrai, and how quickly I can get Aggron material out of play. While Raticate isn't exactly slow, it isn't exactly fast either. I put in Beach cuz I had no way of attacking turn 1 anyway, so that kinda helps...
