Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Diamond & Pearl Rules Updates and Tourney Impacts Info Released

So, under the new rules, the player going first gets to draw a card, play an energy down first, and get a weak attack off, but to trade that off can't play any card old or new that has trainer on it (including Stadiums, Tools, the various pokeball trainers, and Rare Candy). The player going second gets to draw a card as normal and has no restrictions on any kind of cards played except evolutions. Seems to me like going first is even worse than it was before.

What I'm curious about is how this affects older cards. Holon Mentor is a Supporter but it is a pre-DP card that has "Trainer" written on it ... so can the player going first use it or not?

It's also a facinating change in that Balls, Rare Candy, and other stuff that's currently useable T1-first will not be after DP.

EDIT!!!!!

I just looked at the rules again. From what I see, it apears that Stadiums AND Supporters are legal T1.
We currently have a rule that the player going first cannot play a Supporter. What evidence is there to indicate that rule will be changed? Perhaps I missed it, but unless specifically changed, I think the old rules still apply.

RULES CHANGES!
Beginning the game
The player who goes first now draws a card at the beginning of his or her turn. That player may not play ANY Trainer cards from his or her hand, during that first turn. (This includes playing Fossil cards to the Bench.)
Trainer Cards
Beginning with the Diamond & Pearl expansion, Stadium cards and Supporter cards now have their own
card type and are no longer considered Trainer cards. The Stadium and Supporter cards have had their
card faces updated to reflect this change.

Older cards that affect Trainer cards will affect any pre‐Diamond & Pearl Trainer card, as well as any
Diamond & Pearl Trainer, Stadium, or Supporter card. For example, if an older card says, “Search your
deck for a Trainer card and put it into your hand,” you may search your deck for any older Trainer card
(including Stadium and Supporter cards) or any Diamond & Pearl Trainer, Stadium, or Supporter card,
and put it in your hand.
Diamond & Pearl cards that affect Trainer cards will not affect any older Supporter or Stadium card, nor
will it affect any Diamond & Pearl Stadium or Supporter card. For example, if a Diamond & Pearl card
says, “Search your deck for a Trainer card and put it into your hand,” you may not search for an older
Supporter or Stadium or a Diamond & Pearl Supporter or Stadium card.
Pokémon Tool and Technical Machine cards are still classified as Trainer cards.

I've underlined the most important stuff. The starting stuff is a CHANGE which implies that our current rules will not carry over. First player can't play TRAINERS ... however STADIUM and SUPPORTERS are not Trainers.....

Actually, many of the current rules are still in force, unless they have been changed in the new rulings. Even though Supporters are no longer trainers, we have an existing rule that prohibits playing a Supporter if you are the player going first. In addition, we now have a new rule that says you cannot play any Trainers if you go first.

I realize that we won't know what terms are being used on cards until we see the cards, but for now, I still say that they will make the designation difference between a "Trainer" and a "Trainer card."

If this is the case, whoever goes first would be able to play Energy and Pokémon. And nothing else. Until somebody from PUI or POP specifically tells us otherwise, that's what I assume it will be.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, but we'll see, won't we? :)

Person going 1st must draw a card, can play any basic Pokemon, can attatch an Energy and can play a Stadium. But that is all.

Person going 2nd must draw a card, can play any basic pokemon, can attatch an energy, can play any trainers, can play a supporter and can play a stadium.

That is at least the official understanding as of now according to BDS. And until we are instructed otherwise that is how we need to start playing our matches.

I have confirmed with POP that the player that goes first can not play a Trainer, Supporter, or Stadium on their first turn.

^That's what I thought

Why let people play stadiums, but not normal trainers and supporters.

Makes much more sense this way.

I would like to ask if a LVL.X pokemon was knocked out by the defending pokemon, does your opponent will take two prizes? or just one like one normal pokemon?

Also, one thing knowing the coming set PROBABLY containing there's no card that let you search for a POKEMON or even LVL.X POKEMON, so how does the previous set will be fiiting in to this upcoming expansion?

Ok is this finally how turn 1 works.... (I hope)

Players shake hands, cut each others decks.... Draw 7 cards, set up (if no muligan) and put out 6 prizes

and flip coin/die roll to determine who goes first.

T1
Player 1 must draws a card. Can play any basic pokemon and can attatch an energy. (And nothing else)

Player 2 must draw a card. Can play any basic pokemon, can attatch an energy, can play any trainers,
can play a supporter and can play a stadium.

I hope this is the final version of how it works, and boy I am going to hate it when I have to go first.

Only one prize for KO of a level X pokemon. That is why they have an advantage over EX pokemon.

simple question. sorry if answered

can lvl x pokemon be shining star'd by latios star (stage 2 mass damage one: 150)

thats all. thanks

That's a good question for Ask the Masters. I'd rule it "no" since it is no longer an evolved Stage 2 card, but is now an evolved Lvl. X card that can use the Stage 2's attacks and powers.
