How to play Pokégym Team Chess

Oh noes; Mewtwo and his clones have teamed up with Team Rocket to try and capture pikachu; what is to be done?!
In Pokégym chess each pokémon on the chessboard (Ash's or Team R's clone) represents a chess piece.
Bidoof is the pawn (who else), Nosepass the rook, Ponyta the knight, Huntail the bishop and Mewtwo the queen! If Team Rocket capture Pikachu (king) the game is over!
Choose which side you wish to play for (team Rocket is red and Ash is white) then post a move when it is that side's turn.
To take the piece you must write a sentence such as "Pikachu used Thunderbolt on the Bidoof!" with your move.
Remember, all references must be of pokémon. E.g. "Ash's Bidoof on the third column move forward two) and of course follow the rules of chess.
After each move I will refresh the grid to show the new position/fainted pokémon (captured pieces).

magic umbreon does it again! this kid keeps on creating interesting and popular threads on the random topic forum.

how does this work. like anyone can play, anyones side, as long as they post first? and M_U, are you gonna be on top of the whole game refreshing every minute?

i wanna play. if some other people wants to play.

edit: the board should also be checkered. so the huntails wont be so confusing to move.
 
and the board should be numbered, for easier movement....

I say move 4th bidoof (from left) up 2

I anticipated these questions and thought it would be better to answer them when they came up.

Anyone can play but once you choose your side, don't do the moves for the other side. It's OK if you're no good at chess but you're not to sabotage one side by making a really bad move on purpose.

E.g. Lakak is now locked to Ash's side and cannot post a move for Team Rocket.

I may try to do it checkered and make the pieces more of a "counter" style in a circle than filling the box.

I will try as much as possible but if someone wishes within reason to post a move in response before the board is redrawn then I'll only change the most recent etc.

BTW there will also be info. over which side is winning and if I'm feeling whimsical I may do a little story :lol:

btw the board is reflected each time so the characters are the right way up and move "forwards" in a sense.
 
OK. Remember the grid numbering is relative to the rotation of the board so focus only on the board when it's your team's turn if you want your grid references to relate to each other.

Going for the 4-Knights Game? Or Giuoco Piano? Or are you just trying to get your opponent out of book by not playing the Ruy Lopez?

Oh yeah, and you'll need to do the following if you want the board to be correct:

1. Light square goes in the bottom-right hand corner for each player.

2. The numbers 1-8, and letters a-h do not flip as you flip the board. This makes it almost impossible to tell what's happening.

3. Lastly, the King and Queen keep changing squares. Queens starts on the Left for White. Or, use the phrase "Queen on her color". Light Queen starts on a light square, dark Queen starts on a dark square.

4. To make things easier to follow, do not flip the board after each move. Use the standard from whites view at all times.

Well It's changes perspective between turns by the vertical flip in Paint.

Nope this is called pokémon chess therefore they are now to be referred to as the "Quadro-girafarif, Kriketune and Spinda manouveres :thumb:

OK I'll use the white's view. The link in the first post will now always give a white's view board so that the grid references correlate. It's still Team Rocket's turn...

After failing to capture Mewtwo and its completly unexplained "clone" on Ash's side, Giovanni is thinking up a plan to steal one of Ash's pokémon with a snag ball he found in Orre.

OH NOES! What impact could this have on the game?
 
N is for Nosepass and sadly there is a Bidoof in the way. Re-phrase with "Ponyta or Huntail".

btw I had the idea of Pika and Mew versus Meowth and Mewtwo to make more sense. i hope that doesn't confuse everyone! Meowth = Pikachu = king; Mew = mewtwo = Queen. See it makes more sense doesn't it?
