Is it just me or are there more down syndrome people all over the world??? Because i seem to see alot of down syndromes in my area for some reason.

Wow, how cruel can you get? There's nothing funny about down syndrome dude.
Down Syndrome is all over the world, because, technically, it is a birth defect. The person is born with an abnormal amount of Chromosomes, if I remember correctly(don't remember if it's too little or too many). It is just like there are different variations of small people(avoiding harsh names), because it is always possible to be born like that.

Down Syndrome is caused by the presence of a 47th chromosome (normal people have 46) from conception.
Specifically, where normal people have 2 coppies of 23 different chromosomes (2x23=46), Down Syndrome patients have an annomolous extra copy of their 20th chromosome.

Do most down syndromes have brown eyes because yesterday, i saw a down syndrome person with green eyes. I just wondering if its unusual or if its a common thing.

Spinach, you were right about a lot of things, but let me clarify a few points.
Humans are typically composed of 22 pairs of autosomal chromosomes which determine the majority of our genes. There is a 23rd pair of chromosomes (typically) which are our sex chromosomes. XX = female, XY = male.
Down Syndrome is a common term of Trisomy 21. The twenty-first autosomal chromosome receives an extra chromosome due to nondisjunction which occurs during Meiosis. Trisomy, refers to having an additional copy of a chromosome which falls under the aneuploidy category along with Monsomy (having one less chromosome).
Down Syndrome is not the only genetic disorder which can cause mental retardation. If chromosomes are improperly seperated, aneuploidy occurs. Edwards Syndrome, Trisomy 18 is also a common trisomy, Patau Syndrome is far less common, but is Trisomy 13. There can also be improper numbers of our sex chromosomes. For example:
Turner Syndrome: XO The female is missing an X Chromosome. (Monsomy)
Klinefelter Syndrome: XXY The male receives an extra X Chromosome. (Trisomy)
There are many other sex-linked gene disorders; both of the above disorders are also characterized by direct phenotype expression, including varied forms of mental retardation. There are other factors regarding our chromosomes that can cause a vast array of genetic problems, including metal retardation. Aspects such as gene deletion, translocation, inversions, duplications can affect chromosomes.
My point to all of this is that our chromosomes are very serious, and they are the source to all that is human. Predispositions and other factors for diseases are encoded in our DNA; from factors leading to potential Alzheimers or Diabetes versus cancer developing from erroneous and overly-dividing cells. Genetic disorders occur all over the world, if you see a particular disorder in your area, understand that the gene is concentrated in your area which could be the result of several different factors.

i can see some advantages of having down syndrome and alot of disadvantage of having down syndrom.
Pros
- Sometimes being the happiest person
- Getting extra respect from other people because of the disability
- They strive to reach the goals of their dreams such as being a typical normal person, and it can also mean that its something they are good at.
Cons
- Stubborness
- Short
- Temperness
- Distorted looks
- Not very bright
- Spaced out
- Speech Problems

When I was a little girl many people with disabilities lived in "institutions". We didn't see as many mentally handicapped kids, and they didn't go to school with main-stream children. That has changed. Our society sees that a person with a mental handicap can do well in society. Social interaction is necessary for any person to thrive. Today a family is more apt to raise a handicapped child than place them in an institution, although some do need that extra care. Also, people with Down's syndrome usually have heart defects and medicine has improved in that area for people to live longer.

Absolutely, 100% correct.
There is nothing beneficial about having any sort of disease, Genetic or not. If you are speaking about receiving pity or some sort of special treatment for those people who have the condition, that's a gross error in wording or judgment.
I also think your view of Cons is pretty unfair as well. Unless you work with mentally handicapped children or people or are an expert in the disease, I think your Cons are pretty much an opinion, nothing definitive of the disorder. Be careful when labeling people, you'll find the majority of people, handicapped or not, dislike it very much.

im not saying that im trying to make fun of them. I did a science project like 2 years ago, so that goes back when i was a senior in High School. I dont work with any down syndrome kids, but i do know one down syndrome kid who went to my high school but i havent seen him in a long time. Im not friends with that person but i do know the kid. Those facts are not opinions, they are FACTS. I have witnessed it so i would know what the disadvantages of having down syndrome.
When i meant they get treated with extra respect under pros, i mean these people can give them more attention than other regular kids sometimes. But thats if you know that person. Im not saying that you should go up to a random down syndrome in a middle of a town, city, placem etc. just to give them extra respect.
Well its a good thing i dont have down syndrome or autism, or any severe disability.

You've hit one of those topics where you really do have to watch what you say because people are easily offended.
I agree 100% that there are NO PROs to having down syndrome. It's a disease that not only affects the person, but the family of that individial is hit quite hard as well. They have to think about taking care of that person, the fact that they may never be able to live on their own, and that their quality of life is not going to be the same as a "normal" person. As far as the Cons you listed, stereotypically, many of these are indeed true, but at the same time, not all of them apply to every individual with down syndrome. It's a disease that definately varies in severity. I've worked with individuals with mental handicaps, and it's really inspiring to see how much they strive to be the best at what they do. And if they don't do well, oh well, they tried, and are very happy about it. If only we looked at life this way. Sometimes I think we take too many things for granted.

So because there are more people with down syndrome in your area, which makes up less than one percent of one percent of the earth, you assume that it's the same all over the world?
