Can Holon Mentor search for Groudon EX DP?

I am looking to add Groudon EX DP into an Inferncatty deck. A DRE will cover the 2 fighting energy requirement and I can then attach and discard 2 fire energy for both 100 HP and for Infernape LV.X to then fetch for Flare Up. I like Groudon as with 100 HP for a basic I can use him to protect my other cards early in the game. I was wondering if Holon Mentor can search for an EX card even though it is a basic as Groudon EX is a basic with 100 HP or less? I would retreat Groudon before giving up two prizes which actually puts more energy in the discard pile to power up Flare Up or Upstream.
 
there is no Groudon EX DP. Your thinking of groudon ex CG. Yes you can search your deck for ANY basic pokemon with 100 HP or less. (Regardless if its an ex pokemon or not)
 
Infercatty doesn't have the energy acceleration necessary to abuse Groudon ex Crystal Guardians.
 
Thanks everyone. I mistyped DP, Groudon is from CG. My son wants to play it, what is a good counterpart for it?
 
surrently, there arent really any good counterparts for him
if he really wants to play it, you could build hm a deck with it and either swampert ex or flygon d/ampharos d, and have him play that
 
The only way left to fuel tech cards of an off color type is to have extra energy attatchment in a turn and Holon Castform. The only current energy accleration I can think of is Flygon d which won't help unles you play Ampharous d as stated above, or the 2 Firestarter pokemon (Blaziken PK and Typlosion MT) or Gardevoir (PK). I can't think of any other way to pull a typical Tech card drop from hand, fill it with energy, and attack other than those.
 
groudon ex can be teched into electivire deck but just 1 for a tech ( flygon attach to him self use vire's power move it to groudon attach castform quick 100!)
 
if i am not mistaken you can play a holon castform on you ex for the double rainbow please correct me if i am wrong thanks

cool. Psyco said all of the combos in modified play. You have many more options if he doesn't plan on playing in tournaments. If he choses the Unlimited route, Blastoise base set + Holon's Electrode/Magneton would work well. Dragonite delta species would also work but keep in mind that its power can only be used once per turn, unlike blastoise.

You're correct! but Electrode/Magneton would be better if the kid wants to play in Unlimited so that he doesn't start with castform.
