Ludicolous's Midlothian, VA Battle Roads Report

Holy smokes it's been awhile since I've done one of these.

I'm gonna make this short and sweet cause I still have homework to do :lol:

Deck I used: Mario

Thanks to Mr. Johnny R for his patience and help with this deck. You're an excellent player and a great friend.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First off, when I got to the place I realized that outside the store and inside the store felt the exact same. Then I heard the words "no air conditioning." Oh boy.
The second thing I noticed was the space. or the lack thereof. The store is a lot smaller than Richmond Comics, and with tables jammed in the middle of it there was barely enough room to get to your chair. I am surprised none of the items were knocked off the shelves at least once during the day.
Before submitting my decklist, I had planned to grab an extra castaway from some unruly 8 year old who had an affinity for shiny cards. No chance on that option. At the last minute, I decided to throw in a TV Reporter and just live with two castaways.
Round 1: Johnny R (Mario.dec) 1-0
Johnny and I have the exact same Mario list except for the +1 TV Reporter -1 Castaway. We both got okay starts, and we set up fairly quickly. We went back and forth for most of the game, but towards the end, Johnny's last riolu was prized and he wasn't able to drop a basic before his active got KO'd. Great game, mario vs mario battles are a lot of fun.
Round 2: Tim C (Kricketoon Swarm (sp?)) 2-0
Tim is a veteran player and an even longer-time collector. Before the match, I had spoken with some other players about how his deck worked, him running four basics only, what his attacks were, etc. The best plan for me was to get a lucario up swinging for 40 and hitting his bench as fast as possible. With each of his pokemon I killed, his attack would get weaker.
I set up with a lone riolu, and he had a lone kricketot. He got set up fairly quickly and starting damaging my riolu heavily. I topdecked a mentor and got setup faster. I managed to knock out 3 of his kricketoons, and was well on the way to killing his last one until he plays night maintenance and they all go back in his deck. Nevertheless, I'm able to keep him from repowering his new ones and I pick up the win.
Round 3: Tanner (Empoleon/Feraligatr) 3-0
First off, props to Tanner for being such a polite and nice guy. When he would make his own misplay, he would speak up and say something, or he'd catch me if I put more damage on one of my pokemon than I should have. I wish there were more tanneresque etiquette in POP.
Now, this match was the worst one I played all tournament. I made awful misplays and my head wasn't really in the game. Luckily for me, Tanner got an awful start and wasn't able to get anything out except for a lone empoleon. I tackled that and it was a quick GG.
Top2: Tanner (Empoleon/Feraligatr) 4-0
The first match Tanner started with a lone Absol EX. Yuck. I got a good start and was able to set up with a riolu and swing away on his absol quickly. The fighting weakness helped. Tanner got set up in full force however, with two Empoleon's, an Umbreon*, and an Absol in play. I was able to take out the absol, and I immediately started aura sphering the empoleons, because I knew thats where alot of the damage would be coming from. Cessation crystal shut down Umbreon and Absol's power. Empoleon took out a machamp and a lucario but I was able to come back each time with machop candy machamp, fighting and Revenge or have a machamp already powered up. The game lasted about 30 minutes of the hour provided, so we hurried into game 2.
Game 2: Tanner (Empoleon/Feraligatr) 5-0
Tanner didn't have alot of luck here, and he got another awful start. I set up as usual and started grinding away at his empoleon. He never showed feraligatr, and he never really got setup. Great game
Props:
8 packs and the winner card
Seeing Nick and meeting Josh and Tanner
Patrick not kicking me in the legs
Mr. Tuskey for handling the event so well (you'd be a pro at running your own day care).
Winning the puffy pokemon stickers.
Slops:
The heat
The plethera of juniors
Night Maintenance
Lack of Castaways
great event, see ya'll sunday :thumb:
Then I heard the words "no air conditioning."
Hearing that makes it even worse.
:eek: What?! I don't know how to reply to that. I may not hear the end of that until a long time. hum... I am printing this report *lol*.
Welcome back to the game, Danny! We've missed you! Congrats on the 4-0 start to your season.
Mr. T.
Oh, those other decks were in masters, not seniors. (I know, middle group = seniors is VERY confusing!)
Evan G won Juniors here with a teched Electivire. And Tom, I dunno if Patrick has left Mario since it did so well for him at Nats. He just thought that a BR was a good time for something unexpected.
