I want California States in Northern California

Plain and simple: It's OUR TURN!

I am posting this here, because, well, I can't ever contact our PTO or get a response.

I know Susan has her reasons not to run it, and that's FINE! But we cannot ignore the monster attendance in NorCal.

California States has been in the Los Angeles area for all 4 years: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007.

It is time to bring it up, heck I know we can get the staff for it, we do a great job hosting a wonderful Regionals, and even the Stadium Challenge back in 2004.

There have been discussions about high prices for venues and problems such as that in SoCal (particularly San Diego). I'm bringing this up now, because I want to see it happen.

Thoughts, comments, concerns!

I think that having states in Los Angeles is the most rational thing to do because that is where most of the players are.

I'm not even sure that LA has more players than NorCal now.....By looking at previous event numbers over the last couple years, it's gotten pretty comparable. Just because they may have a FEW more players down there, doesn't mean it should be there EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I'm sure States have been rotated around even some of the smaller states, like you, Tennessee.

Wait a sec...Regionals is in NorthCal and States is in SouthCal? That seems pretty fair to me.

They get a regional in NoCal and SoCal!

On Tennessee....States was held in Nashville (capital and centrally located) in 2004 by Vince (Meg45) and Jon (ScythKing...no longer a PTO now) In '05 & '06, States has been held in Memphis, due to Clay's great efforts in that area. Perhaps in the future, it will return in Nashville, but that remains to be seen. The 2 major sources of players are on polat oppo's of the state (Memphis and Sevierville area....east of Knoxville) On I-40, Memphis starts the mile markers at 1. Sevierville's exit is 407. Yup, 407 miles apart! I know, Cali is longer, but still, quite a distance for a state.

Ukiah, CA to Los Angeles, CA 489 miles
Camp Pendleton is 570 miles.
San Diego farther still.

Scizor lives farther north than my son and I, and has farther to travel to get to a major event in Southern California. We feel Chad's pain; events in northern California are 2 1/2 - 4 hours south for us.

Santa Clara/San Jose, along with the other OP areas of northern California have a player population nearly equal to Los Angeles along with the other areas of southern California. Big enough to legitamely justify a Regional, bigger than the majority of State player bases, and we're not talking about a permanent move of the State championship northward.

I think it is reasonable that the California State championship alternate between Southern and Northern California. Maybe 2 yers South followed by 1 year North.

Okay, this year North.

Overdue.

Santa Clara, CA in northern California boasts a current National Champion. The player base exists in northern California. The quality player base exists in northern California. Santa Clara in northern California had 4 players play on Saturday in this year's more exclusive Worlds championship. The State championship should not be locked in a Los Angeles/San Diego/Irvine/Camp Pendleton loop.

Just sayin'.

PokeDad: I feel Chad's and your pain. My son has not had the opportunity to play for his own state title since 2004. IF we can get TN states back in Nashville.....then we have a chance. Until then, we will travel east for states.

yeah, this past year was the first time I actually went to states too. I'm prolly the only one to Fly to my State Championship.

I remember that. lol. I still pefer to drive 5 hours, then fly.

It true that most player are based in South Cal. As for North Cal, player are scatered all over the place and not in one single area. Sence California is divided into 2 regions why cant we have 2 States like 2 Regoinals.

The States argument is always a fascinating one...I am going to be interested in the TN solution this year. Oh, last time Nashville was a disaster for States, in that half of the Memphis people did not come, only a few players came from the east, and there were maybe 2 local players...

Now, a little bird has told me that there are local Nashville leagues gaining numbers, which is one of the criteria, in my mind, for the event. You HAVE to have a local player base.

Heck, we could state that we have an Illinois situation, in that one of the bigger venues/leagues is now right outside St. Louis. But we won't do that, the State belongs in Rockford.

In Missouri, it could be argued the states should rotate to Kansas City and back, but we won't do that, because the Kansas States is right on the border of Kansas City, Missouri.

Now California...if there was EVER a State that needed to States, that one is IT.

With Texas, they separate the Regional and the States, or they have for the last few years.

Memphis and St. Louis keep switching years for their Regionals. That has really worked.

It comes down to the PTOs and PUI coming together and making a decision. No matter what is decided, some people will not be happy. That is the one trust fact.

Will be watching.
