Shaina wasn't in the best mood today, but I told her it was "Greenville or bust" so off we went after church. I took a slightly different Mario, and I built a strong Kricket deck for Shaina. We got there *exactly* 1:00 pm, just in time for the end of registration!

ROUND 1 Shaina w. Kricket

She mulliganed 4 times and it gave me the correct configuration, so that by T3 I was set up. Still, Kricket is fast, and I barely pulled this out. Lucario Lv.X, then Revenge.

1-0

ROUND 2 Bo w. Flygon EX d/Ninetales d/Milotic d

Not the greatest matchup. I missed Wild Kick to start, so that didn't help. After my turn 2 Lucario shot, his Ninetales got rid of the damage and powered up Trapinch. I KO'd Ninetales with Lucario Lv.X, and he brings up the Trapinch with Energy, evolves to Vibrava, and says something. I call over the judge, who explains to Bo that Stance gives Lucario Lv.X immunity. But... Bo hadn't announced his actual attack, so he was able to continue his turn, Warp Point out, and bring up a Vulpix. At this point, I SSU'd the Lucario Lv.X in order to build it again, but he Warp Point'd *again* and kept Windstorming all of my Cessations. Basically, he ripped though me after that.

1-1

ROUND 3 young man with Crobat/Swalot

Not much to tell. I T2's his Gulpin.

2-1

ROUND 4 "Hooper" with Hurricane

I'd been hoping to meet up with this deck, and I did. I was able to take a quick prize as he set up. I built Lucario Lv.X which netted me another prize, than retreated the Lv.x for another Lucario, which he KO'd with a damaged Feraligatr. I brought back the Lv.x and took care of Feraligatr. After Lv.X was KO'd, I Revenge'd, but he took the Machamp with 7 Energy from his hand after Candy'ing 3 successive Delcatty's! Somehow, with all of this, he wasn't able to KO my new Lucario, and I took his Feraligatr for the 5th prize. He then conceded.

3-1

I was in 6th after Round 3, but I moved up to 2nd for the Top2 cut!

FINALS vs......... Shaina with Kricket. Listen to this.... after she lost to me, Shaina beat Infernape (fire!), Blaziken (weakness again!), and Kyle Sabelhaus with Blissey! Amazing.

Game 1. I started out quickly and took a prize, but Kricket came back. I hit a key Time-Space and retrieved Machamp with Rare Candy in my hand and Machop Active after a KO. But... I only had a DRE, and she had Crystal Beach out! Lose.

Game 2. She had 4 Krickets and I only had Machop and a million energies. She couldn't get a second energy, so she kept nipping for 10 damage, with additional Strength Charm and Plus Power. I actually took a prize after 3 turns, but I picked up yet another energy. Finally, I drew Wager, but lost the RPS. Next turn, she gets an energy and lays Strength Charm for the win.

Mario 2nd Place, Kricket 1st place.

Shaina pulled a Magmortar Lv.X, Meganium, Blissey, and other cool cards. I got a rock

PROPS

Shaina, for winning in her first top cut ever!
Jeff Reynolds, for another great event!

Hey Tom, give the kid a break.

Yes this was my Round 1, I just couldn't get my cessations and Empoleon out quick enough. ugghhh.

PS I was running Empoleon, Raichu d, Mantine.

That was a long match btw.

I did beat him quickly with Empoleon in round three, and won 3 more times after the match

I ended up 2-2. the other Kricket got me in T2, we both had three mulligans in a row, I average about one. Then I only pull Pikachu d HP and he mulligans two more times and I still do not get any more basics. I was getting spoiled by getting prinplup early.

I was in 6th after Round 3, but I moved up to 2nd for the Top2 cut!

I was in 4th after Round 3, and I moved down to 8th. You should thank those noisy Krickets for the top cut in round 4.

She did great, right after my lose to Kricket, she beat Kyle the next round right after! I guessed and told her if you won in the 4th round you two would be playing in the finals and she would win, sorry.

Congratulation Shaina!!

I second that!

Nice work with Soulless, King! I also had to play family in the finals of my tourney (my bro :X).

BUGS: Good to see you again. Sorry you had to leave early. Our "death match" at the end was over in about 15 minutes..

CYRUS: Thanks. Fun, isn't it?

JASON: Domination by Kricket!

KEITH: Edited  And I will see you soon!

Good job Tom. Asheville will be easier being your daughter won't be there ;)

TSD in Mario seems like a good idea. It's needed for extra consistency.

edit: I would have loved to had a Top 2 Kricketune finals, but I can't help that my opponent percentage was down the hole after first round loss (late) and 2nd round bye. Either way, Kricketune is the BDIF.

Kricket is great. Mario is right up there also. Blissey too.

Too bad you missed the first round. Woulda been interestin'

Uh... Prime?
Kricketune isnt the BDIF
Id take Mario over Kricketune...

No offence, but it just isnt that good unless you are just that lucky

LOL. First it started with Mario not being good unless you get lucky. Now it's Kricketune?

You people make me laugh.

Prime are you Matt that I battled
, I now pegged Tom as KingGengar!

I think Kricketune was a an error on Nintendo's part.

The question is who wins the most out of a 100 battles in a Kricketune vs. Mario matchup??

Nah, I just don't think Kricketune is that good even if you are lucky.

Btw, Kyle drew 2 Chansey and a Mentor against Kricketune or something horribad like that, so don't use that to say Kricketune beats Blissey.

Mario is BDIF...Please concede to me?

Peoples... peoples...

Kricketune is good. Blissey is good. Mario is good. They are, IMO, the best in the format.

All things being equal (good players, well-built decks), luck is a big factor for everyone.

That said, Shaina had the mojo yesterday... after losing to me, she beat Mike with Ape (and we all know Mike is a monster with that deck), a decent Blaze/Kingler deck (she rolls heads on Burn *how* many times?), and then got the opening edge against one of our best players, Kyle. Then, she *kills* me in T2. It was voodoo...

It's like I was saying, certain Pokemon work for only certain people. Blissey is definitely loving Bobby, Lucario loves me, and Kricket loves Shaina. I know it sounds mystical, but that's the way I roll.

So, believe if you will that Mario, Blissey, or Krickets are not the best Pokemon out there now, but don't take away from the winner.

First, when people say "you make me laugh" they usually didnt laugh. Anyways, Krickitune and Mario arent considered real decks to many of the top players because they arent incredibly creative or hard to play. I could give krickitune to a hobo on the street and after 5 minutes theyd play it as good as any great player. Why am i even talking on pokegym, im gonna go kill myself now

So, whoever plays R-Gon is a true Pokemon player, but whoever plays Kricketune is not?
Then, the Designated Hitter is not a real baseball player because he comes in quick and gets the job done.
The kicker is not a real football player.
The relief pitcher is not a real player.
If the player's forte is simplicity, then other players look down on him?
Tell that to Adam Vinatieri.
Tell that to Frank Thomas.
Tell that to Mariano Rivera.

You all have become too hung up on complicated strategies. Now, a little Kricket comes along and foils all your setup decks, and the teardrops start falling. Just like when Mario forced you to rethink your Castforms and Eevees. Just like Blissey forces you to rethink everything.

Face the future. Monochromatic power is in. Sure, you can make Empoleon/Lucario work, but all you've done is combine two power hitters, just like Machamp/Lucario.
