Whether you're a Pokemon TCG veteran or new to the game, welcome to the Secret Wonders of Pokemon with the latest and greatest set!!


TOURNAMENT INFO:

I. Date: Saturday, October 27, 2007
Time: Registration is from 11:00 until 11:30. Packs will be passed out promptly at 11:30--don't be late!! Deck building and lunch to follow.

Location: Hobby Works--Fair City Mall--we will do our best to fit everyone who is intersted. Bring chairs (or even a table) and we will do our best to accomodate all. This was (as far as we can tell) North America's largest Prerelease site last go 'round!! Thanks to Shadow Card, his leaguers, and all the great prerelease fans in Fairfax!! Come dressed for Halloween as your favorite Pokemon or trainer (or anything else as long as it's not too scary!!)

Bring your POP ID if you have one. If you this is your first event, we'll issue you an ID!!

Entry Fee: $25. All players get 6 brand new, krinkly Secret Wonders booster packs to make a 40-card deck (including energy) for use in the tournament. Basic Energy will be provided. (Bring your own basic metal and dark if you want!!) Don't forget that booster packs now contain 10 cards!!

Tournament structure: The Tournament is run using the Limited Format and Age Modified Swiss pairings. See the Pokémon Floor Rules for information about the Limited Format and Swiss Pairings. The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on total attendance at the event. Keep all cards that you open, but no trading until the event is over!! New participants always seem to think that these tourneys are single elim...THEY ARE NOT!! You will play the same number of rounds as everyone else--win or lose!

All participants will receive a Pokémon TCG: Secret Wonders Prerelease stamped Promo Card and promotional item. Plus, all participants will receive 2 additional booster packs after the conclusion of the tournament. Promo item is again a set of deck sleeves, but the design is, well, "secret"!!


Door Prizes: Well, got some special stuff from Japan still, plus we'll be giving away some of the really cool TFG figures.

At each event, we will be collecting cards to donate to Beckett's "Cards for Kids" promo. I will pay all postage to get your donated cards to kids in hospitals or long-term care centers. All cards will include a letter from "Virginia's Pokemon Players"

Emphasis on the bring chairs. Any sort of folding chair (metal, lawn, etc) which an adult can sit in will work. Someone once brought a dining room chair - that's good too if you can fit it in your car :thumb:. There will be a raffle involved for those who bring chairs.

If the stars align correctly for this tournament just as well as they did the Mysterious Treasures prerelease, we ought to be good on tables (I have to check one connection first). If it looks like we'll get more than 85 players, there's a 50-50 chance I have a back-up plan.

From my understanding, Hobby Works has put in an order to restock the TFG, which it sold out of at last Saturday's BR, for those interested in it.
 
^only a 50-50 chance of a back-up plan!?! I can tell you I have a be there 1-99 shot of being there (the 1 is not working and my mom is willing to drive me) I need my license bad!
 
Calm down, TFP--85 is big, really big, even for Fairfax. Of course, advance word is the set looks sweeeeet......
 
I see long hours at the job has made TFP cranky. 80 people is still a lot for us. Last year, we'd expect about max 40 at one of these in Virginia. Which reminds me, when is the league report due? :eek:

Yes, TFP, get a license. That'll help get more of totoro's league players up here for States :cool:.

Space, tables, and chairs allowing, let's test if totoro ordered enough product :biggrin:

I am taking Behind the wheel next month but it's too bad I can only have 1 person in my car as soon as I get it though. I actually like the idea of having states in Fairfax (malls FTW)

also I should know more if I can go on the 28th on Tues/Wed when my supervisor gets the schedule done

This is true. Fairfax is placed in a way that you can get to Fair Oaks Mall and Tysons Corner Center in the same day. Fair Oaks Mall still has some specialty stores but Tysons Corner is mostly just clothing stores, mostly for people with lots of money.

Personally, I call the Fair City Mall a "shopping center." If you're into shopping centers, the Fair Lakes shopping center is not far from Old Towne Fairfax. It features, Target, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Michaels, and lots of other smaller stores.

totoro has a special fondess for driving in NoVA. :lol:

I can't remember the last time I looked at Becket, since they dropped Pokemon. Got a scan?

I'm sure Javier has cards to donate. Contact him.
 
Just waiting on final confirmation--that's all. Assuming that happens, the official announcement will happen Saturday. Timothy, you will definitely be in on this--I'll need a big staff! TFP shouldn't have said a thing here--last time I share anything w/ him!! :mad:

General store comments:
Food is not allowed in the store or in the outside play area (because it is carpetted). Only drinks with a screw top are allowed (no "restaurant cups"). Mama Lucias and the movie theater have tables and chairs for lunch. Weather permitting, you could probably eat right outside Hobby Works too :thumb:
 
Warrenton maybe, because the league there is at a school and there would be enough space there?
 
There's a league in Warrenton?! *checks locator*. geez, I remember when there were only 5 leagues in VA. Now we're up to 11.
 
We might be able to make the Fairfax venue

Kyle and I are going to try to make it this time. I am also going to try and get a couple of new kids to come with us. This will be what I think is their first exposure to a Pokemon event of any kind. :fire:

The order has arrived!! So....many.....boosters....... so little time to bundle in little sets of 6......

We'll get it done in time for Fairfax, though---I promise!!! :thumb:
