Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Best way to play magmortor

Magmortar and Blissey is a fun killer deck. It's probably the best way to play, along with RK9 and Magmortar.

Magmortar/Typholosion
Magmortar/Blissey/RK9
Straight Magmortar

Straight Magmortar is the best thing since all you do is justs build up Magmortar SW and then do his last attack, then start sniping. Maybe even Magmortar/Electrode would work.

well ive been playing this magmortar/meganium ds deck and its been doing pretty good just need to figure out what else can help it out

I ran just straight Magmortar, a few plus power, charms, and the Lv X

it worked pretty well. I tested a version that used Crystal Beach, and one that used Scramble. The deck wasn't worth the trouble it takes to get it working.

If you're set on doing the Flame Bluster (Mag LV.X), you'll have to go with Typholosion to get energy floating on the table ('cause it appears you can't discard DRE to count as 2 fire energy cards). If you just want the SW Magmortar going around, Blissey actually seems like a good partner, due to the two possessing above average HP at all times (Magmar's minimally above average, which is ~50 or 60 HP nowadays), and Blissey benefitting greatly from having a friend spread damage around.

Other then the high HIGH retreat costs, it's not too bad in all honesty. 1-1 Arcanine tech might be needed. Not sure here. (You know, add pluspower, good bye Gallade/Empoleon/plenty of other pokemon)

I'm trying it with a sprinkling of Delcatty. *shrug*

Why, hello there Battle Frontier. Cessation Crystal. Fighting types. Opponent's Magmortar LV.X...

Of course, Typholosion doesn't work without Delcatty (you need the acceleration in that deck). Hm... Bronzong's even worse in this deck, mostly 'cause you actually want Smeargle as your starter (Which conveniently means you always have energy, overriding Bronzong's good point). Oh dear...

For a deck that's halfway between Set up (using Ty and Catty) and speed (Magmortar), it's stronger then you'd think, but there are enough moments where the set up flops to make it not the Idiot Proof, always perfect deck. Blissey's much better at being idiot proof (...Which is greatly saddening, but true).

how do you figure this? or has it been ruled? because the way i read the card you can discard a DRE to use Flame Buster.

Japanese wording. Ask the Masters has a thread on this. Sure, it's not an official ruling yet in the states, but judging by the way we play card rulings the same as Japan's, it's quite plausible this'll happen here.

...so if you want to discard a DRE for Flame Bluster, it appears you'll have to discard another fire energy to do so.

I've built a fun deck with Magmortar and Flygon/Ampharos. Using its body two or three times a turns is nice. Of course... I'll build something else for competitive play, because although it can hit for a lot and it's a lot of fun once you get everything out, it's very inconsistent to have so many evolution lines without one of them being a searcher.

That said, I'm looking forward to doing the same thing with Leafeon Lv.X in the next set. Time will tell if that will be good enough for serious competition.

Leafeon LV.X actually sounds a bit more viable then a few of the options here, for just having Magmortar go at the opponent. You solve the whole "zomg, where does the fire energy come from...?!" problem that Magmortar LV.X has, the basics (eevee) FLOOD onto the field, the Leafeon is resistant to water (IIRC), and if not, you can tech in Jolteon.

Ive actually got a Blissey/Magmortar deck in the Deck section. Anyone whos confused about why they might be good together should take a look.

blissey has the ability to be combo'd with almost any pokemon ( or thought it could be) simply because it uses any NRG and is of course the best Poke in Format. so this understood you only need to take a good poke with Good Hp/atks and is a S1 and basicly combine the 2. honestly try it i am sure theres only like 2-3 Blissey combos that don't work, i dare you to name one and i bet it could work.....
