Great, I already have to return a Christmas present.... I'm glad that they caught this before the holidays though because they made a bunch of the 'Hot Toy' lists. Hopefully, no more kiddos will be hurt.

I agree; one of the girls that was on TV she looked like 11-12 yrs old and she ate one. I mean it would be different if a 3 yr old ate one but you should know better by 11-12 yrs old :/

This Toy is not for eating. Recommended Ages 10+
 
The kit that I bought is labeled 'Ages 4+'. Yes, an 11-12 year old should definitely know better but they do not always do what they know they should. And I could certainly see a 4 year old or someone's preschool sibling thinking that they looked like candy and trying some. Better safe than sorry.
 
Heatherdu: really? anything with small pieces like that are usually labeled 10+
I remember when pokemon first came out and they used Monster Tokens; usually used as 1/1 Monsters Tokens or other */* Tokens. (Used in Magic The Gathering) for Damage Counters
 
Why is it that kids can be so increadibly (sp?) stupid? Heatherdu, you have a point about the whole 4+ thing, but mentally retarded kids sticking things in their mouth is hardly a reason for a recall. Now, if their is an extremely deadly substance in them, that is an entirely different story.
 
What is the deal now days? Does every thing have to be non-toxic now? =/

I can see why they were recalled though, being labeled as non-toxic -but containing a toxin. It kind of makes sense. I had never heard of an aqua dot before today though.
 
Guys, remember, the issue isn't that the kid ate the thing. The issue is that the thing contained chemicals that, when ingested, transformed into a date **** drug.

Here's my question I have seen commercials for this product a lot and just now somone decides to swallow one?

I agree with BT a little, however the people who made the product should have thought about, what if my product accidently got eaten (even if was by an animal) ect.

I remember seeing a commercial for this product just a few days a go.. And It looked good because you didn't have to iron them like other bead type projects. But like all small items and plastic toys they are not meant to be eaten dangerous or not.
it looked like you put it in the pen and put it on the pallet and you did it that way, and there was little mess for a toddler eating one.

In the news of the whole aqua dot thing.. they were in a random toys r us and they were showing some old WOTC pokemon product and had shelves of base , jungle and fossil set.. T-T.. I couldn't see if the Base set was marked 1st edition... I do not know why they showed that pokemon cards and product is far from dangerous. and IS marked ages 10+ (origanal WOTC theme decks are anyway)
 
ITT people agree that a product is bad because Darwinism in action is a bad thing.

The kid who eats too many toxic chemicals doesn't get to grow up to have toxic-chemical-eating kids of his own. It's a harsh reality but it's what nature intends. It converting into a drug when swallowed is a bad thing, yes, but just because dumb Aqua-Dot-eating kid swallows it doesn't make the product itself inherently bad. If a kid eats it, only the kid (for eating it) and his parents (for being irresponsible) are to blame. The product has nothing to do with it.
 
homeofmew - It was made in China. Do you honestly think they'd do enough product research to figure that out? The chemical is only dangerous when ingested, and it's not like they were going to test what happened when people ingested their toys.

Marril - You're an advocate of drugging children's toys, then?
 
I'm an advocate of not labelling something as "dangerous" simply because some less-than-the-common-denominator-of-intelligence child swallows it.

So, by the same token, we should allow those that want to stick their hand in a copying machine or jump off the edge of the grand canyon do so?
