Cool Deck Idea... Practical?

Firestarter Blaziken , PK Delcatty, and SW Magmortar

For those of you who don't know...

Power Keepers Blaziken:

PokePower: Firestarter
----Once during your turn (before you attack), you may attach a FIRE energy card from your discard pile and attach it to one of your benched pokemon. This power can't be used if Blaziken is affected by a special condition.

PowerKeepers Delcatty:

PokePower: Energy Draw
----Once during your turn (before you attack), you may discard one energy card from your hand. Then draw up to three cards from your deck. This power can't be used if Delcatty is affected by a special condition.

Secret Wonders Magmortar:

Flame Blast [F]: Does 20 damage times the number of fire energy attached to Magmortar.

FireBall Bazooka [FCC]: 40 Damage. Does 20 damage to two of your opponent's benched pokemon.

Too slow? Good idea? Discuss.

Magmortar DP2 is much better. And i really don't understand your combo. There is no synergy exept Firestarter and Energy Draw.

With the extra nrg attachment from Firestarter.. you can have the 1st Magmortar doing Fireball Bazooka and spreading damage as well as Blaziken Spreadinge Damage.... stacking the nrg on the Benched Magmortar allows you to do multiple things:
When it is brought active, Level Up and Snipe for 100, then do crazy damage with the Flame Blast that does 20x each :fire: attached! So with 5 :fire: it is 100... 4 for 80 with no drawback is also nice.

The Synergy is there, you just have to open your mind to new ideas!

It isn't a bad idea.... My suggestion is a 2-2-2 line of Magmortar though! 2 Lvl x would just eat thing with th 100 snipe ntm the auto Burn! Use your Blaziken line... or Typhlosion... to spread damage! GL and nice idea!

Until the DP4 Blaze comes out, Typhlo is the more sturdy play.

I've wanted to try a deck something like this before, but I'm not sure exactly how good it would be.

blaze has more synergy with magmortar, but i don't even think it's damage spread attack is worth it when it's double weak and has only 100 hp. i don't really like typhlosion at all either though.... when the new blaziken comes out, this will definately be a deck. until then, i don't think it has the fire power to keep up with the rest of the format.

I just battled a deck like this today. It didn't have the Delcatty. The problem was that the deck couldn't seem to get enough energy out of the deck. It was slow, so I don't think it is very practical. The problem is that none of the pokemon in the deck have a free retreat to get juiced up by the firestarter. >_<

This is in practice a very solid combo (for one thing, Magmortar's a stage 1 and does NOT need Magby)... Except for a few flaws.

1) Set up. Getting everything out can be frustrating. Smeargle's a great starter (Especially if you've got a Delcatty on bench, in which case it's almost perfect)
2) Recovering from surprise knockouts. Gallade flipping over ~3 prizes to KO something, Electivire doing 120, all of those things are very frustrating for set up decks, and this is no different. Time Space Distortion does kinda help this problem, but it's flippy, and that's not reliable.

But the damage it lays out is HIGHLY impressive. People liked Lucario? What in the world's bad about a higher HP Lucario, with a weakness that presently is not exhibiting itself (Psychic definately has several pokemon with that offensive type, ready to attack. What does Water have? Empoleon and Feraligatr. Hm. I see.), an extra bench target for the same amount of damage when it uses the damage spreading attack, a healing poke-body, a disabling Pokepower (as Magmortar LV.X), and a highly damaging attack (Flame blast) ?

As for Typholosion: Discarding DRE and Multi Energy could be huge. It's at the very least, a failproof knock out against most basics (though we're starting to see starters with 70 HP...), and impossible for Kricketune to fight back against. 110 HP is also pretty dang huge to have (for both Magmortar AND Typholosion)

I played the deck today. I went 15-7. This deck is pretty good.

4-3-1 Magmortar lvX

3-3(2 delcatty PK) (1 Declatty ex CG)

2-1-2 blaziken.

Add in a couple Smergle as a starter to combo with Delcatty and you should be ok. I also think Typlosion might be a more durable choice for a Firestarter pokemon, but I understand Blaziken's spread damage might give it a slight edge.

It did. i knocked out 3 murkrow using the attack.Blaziken is da best.

Do u even need to whine about that...?

That seems more like praise then complaints.

Going back to the "Magmortar DP2 is better" remark- that claim is false.

Magmortar MT does 80 damage to the active, yes. At a cost. You have Magby underneath Magmar (which can lead to lone Magby starts, which is bad), or you discard 2 energy cards from your hand (which you won't always have unless you also play Magneton. Doing so places you overly reliant on powers).
Magmortar SW has no effects requiring Magby, at all. This eliminates the single Magby start issue. Considering that no Magmar gains benefits from having a Magby under them, there's no incentive at all to use Magby other then for doing 80 damage to the active.
Magmortar SW can do 20 damage times the amount of Fire Energy attached to it. So it'll only take 1 more energy on Magmortar SW to do the same damage as Magmortar MT, but with no draw backs (besides the energy cost).

Magmortar MT has 100 HP and +30 weakness to water. Empoleon can easilly do 70 damage, which +30 is a knock out on MT Magmortar. Magmortar SW on the other hand, has 10 more HP, and will survive such attacks unless the opponent has already spread damage with Prinplup or played a Pluspower.
Magmortar SW happens to have a body though, which makes the opponent have to play Pluspowers to OHKO it, as whenever you attach a fire energy from hand, it recovers 20 damage. So Prinplup spreads aren't as effective on benched Magmortar SW as they'd be on the MT Magmortar.

Finally, Magmortar SW can deal 40 damage to the active pokemon and 20 damage to 2 benched pokemon at once. This can allow you to take up to three prizes at once, or (for more realistic situations) accelerate the opponent's retaliatory pokemon towards their demise much like a Prinplup or Lucario.

Magmortar SW is superior to Magmortar MT in every way except that it does not have Smoke bomb. As Smoke Bomb only deals 30 damage, AND requires a flip to be effective, the gain of Fireball Bazooka and undeniably superior defensive stats makes such a loss irrelevant.
