I don't have any complaints with the timing of the issue. I just want to make sure the logic behind the section is correct.
Ryan, you say that you can't put up decks now because SW just came out and there is no way to tell what the archetypes are. What happens when Cities are over, and GE comes out? You can't put up archetypes because a new set just came out and there is no way to tell what the archetypes are? This could go on forever if you let it, because sets come out every 3 months.
I don't really care when decks are added to the archetype section, but I do care if certain decks are excluded or overlooked because they weren't popular at that moment. Let's say Cities rolls around and Inferncatty isn't played because of some untold secret. Time rolls around to post archetypes, and Inferncatty is excluded because it isn't popular at the moment. I think that would be the wrong thinking if that happened. As much as the archetype section is there to tell people what they might face at a tournament, it is also there to tell them about decks that used to be good earlier in the format (or formats). To exclude a deck because it isn't played at the moment wouldn't be the right way of doing things imho. Because at any point that deck that was excluded could become very playable (in the right metagame) and might do really well. And when people go to get information on it, and there is no archetype discussion for it, people are going to lose out on information about it.
I would not call Mario an archetype. But IMHO, it's the closest a deck can get to being one without actually being one, and it's proven itself many times already. IMHO, it's not the best deck, or the best idea, but it has won tournaments, and that is why I feel it does deserve to be put into the archetype discussion. And I am worried that Mario will be overlooked when time comes to add archetypes because it doesn't see much play at Cities.
I feel many decks could be added now.
Inferncatty
Empoleon/Lucario (even if I don't like it)
Mario
Kricketune
A whole forum for Blissey
Feraligatr/Delcatty (w/ or w/o Magneton)
Duskqueen
MegaGatr
And just wait and see what new decks come out of SW.
Again, I'm not pressing the NOW more than just pressing the LOGIC. The logic should be collecting all the decks that have done well this season, not just this tournament series (cities, or states).
Just my honest opinion.
